Trump Unleashes Military Strikes: 59 Tomahawk Missiles Hit Syria - Live Feed

Quote:

As previewed earlier tonight, the United States fired a barrage of cruise missiles into Syria on Friday morning in retaliation for this week's alleged chemical weapons attack against civilians by the Assad regime, U.S. officials said. It was the first direct American assault on the Syrian government and Donald Trump's most dramatic military order since becoming president. According to NBC, only tomahawks missiles fired, no fixed wing aircraft involved, for now.

As AP notes, the surprise strike marked a striking reversal for Trump, who warned as a candidate against the U.S. getting pulled into the Syrian civil war, now in its seventh year. But the president appeared moved by the photos of children killed in the chemical attack, calling it a "disgrace to humanity" that crossed "a lot of lines."

Well, for sure you don't need a "live feed" but you get the point

Well, several thoughts comes to mind.

A) The "chemical attack" was precipitated by the Syrian "rebels" keeping stores of Sarin in bunkers ("civil defense areas") which were bombed- and released - by Syrian warplanes. This would NOT be the first time that "Syrian rebels" used chemical weapons, nor the first time that the "Syrian rebels" and their Turkish allies created a "false flag" chemical weapons operation.

The timing is right: Syrian troops are rolling up the al-Qaida/ISIL-affiliated opposition in Idlib pretty handily, and peace is being forced on the "rebels" (mostly foreign extremists) and - as a false flag- this creates a handy breathing space for terrorists everywhere!

B) The "chemical attack" really WAS sourced in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Assad. Assad, believing himself to be above consequence as a result of Tillersons's soft-on-Assad speech, launched an entirely gratuitous and unnecessary chemical weapons attack against a "civil defense" structure (i.e. hardened and weaponized dug-in fortification). Well, it doesn't make a boatload of sense to me, but... stranger things have happened.

Trump was careful to warn Russia ahead of time, so the damage was limited to Syrian troops and the "Syrian side" of the two airbases struck.

So YAY! for the neocons! They got their licks in.

I would feel a lot more reassured if there was at least some regular communication between the Trump admin and Russia. But since "talking to Russia" is a crime equivalent to TREASON! ... at least, according to the assholes on the board ... I guess we'll just have to stumble along blindly.

Are you happy now that you got what you wanted?

This is standard stuff for presidents who want to "send a message." Cruise missiles cause some damage but don't endanger any American lives. We'll see if Trump takes things any further.

Marco Rubio is on my TV right now calling this a great thing. "It's not a message, it's an actual degrading of their capabilities." If Obama had done something like this, Rubio would have contemptuously called it a pinprick.

"That is used to store chemical weapons, according to US intelligence assessment". I believe them because they've never lied to us before.

Yanno, having worked in a chemical weapons detection project once upon a time, I can tell you a lot about them.

First of all, Sarin, Tabun, and similar compounds are unstable. If you make them under less-than-ideal circumstances and aren't able to purify them sufficiently, not only will you have telltale impurities and side products, which can pinpoint the "batch", but will also cause the CW to degrade.

So military manufacturers add stabilizers, which also help pinpoint who made the CW, since different mfrs use different stabilizers. Also, even with stabilizers they don't have a long shelf life. It's not like Assad could have "held back" CW from the roundup in 2014 and still have them viable three years later.

Also, when investigating what happened and who is to blame, you have to look for the remnants of a delivery system: many rocket tailfins of suitable type and standard manufacture, for example, if this was sourced from the Syrian Army.

So collecting actual samples of CW residues and finding strike points of actual CW missiles would be part of reasonable investigation.

Somewhere it hurt us, an ally in the middle east. I assume the real target will be ISIS, w/o narratives is our ally, and Putin know this, and ISIS actually did the attack, probably under unofficial US orders. He won't attack Israel because it's a Russian ally as well, but he'll do something that sends a public message and one that sends a message to deep state as well, saying "look, i can be really annoying." If Putin got involved on the anti-Saudi side in Yemen, that would be deeply annoying to the PNAC crowd. I'm not sure that would speak to the Russians. Wait and see what Lavrov says, then interperet the subtext.

However, UN investigations into multiple potential chemical attacks did reveal that the 'opposition' used chemical weapons.

It appears you can't handle facts. According to the first UN report, there was zero evidence Assad 'gassed his own people' at Ghouta. But there is evidence that the 'opposition', as the UN calls them, had - and probably still has - the ability to manufacture chemical weapons, and has been conclusively shown in the second UN report to have used them in the past.

Now, I'm sure you believed what you were told: Assad is a really bad guy who used chemical weapons on civilians. And you believed that despite decades of experience that western governments routinely propagandize their own citizens (like for example, Hussein's WMDs. You do remember that, don't you?) And yet, DESPITE available evidence that you've been lied to, intensively and deliberately, on multiple occasions, even in the very recent past (Assad 'gassed his own people, a claim made over and over with zero evidence to back it up, and discredited by the UN), you then chose to believe the propaganda about this event as well.

So, now let me point out there is also ZERO evidence Assad did this.

There is ZERO reason for him to have done it.

And there is EVERY reason for the US Deep State to launch a false flag attack to further its agenda.

Now, I'm not going to point out exactly how your belief in the government's portrayal of this event calls into question your memory, intelligence, honesty, and sanity. I'll let you reflect on that yourself.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Yep. Just like GWB did with Iraq.

And that turned out so well.

Care to try addressing the facts, again?

Or do you shoot nothing but blanks?

Putin's response is to beef up his Syrian forces, so if we do more in Syria, he says he's concerned that we might run into one another.

It's curious how quickly everyone switches sides when the shooting starts.

Sig,

Yes, I initially thought our liberals were misinformed doves, but now I see that they are fairly well informed hawks, who just try to hide the fact that they are hawks, and that is their primary agenda. They probably have the old liberal standbys like population control.

Tim Kaine is not being insightful here, he's being a douche, because Trump. Rand Paul is actually taking a stand. Against war, rather than against Trump. Rand isn't the sharpest tool in the shed either, but his dad is helping.

So collecting actual samples of CW residues and finding strike points of actual CW missiles would be part of reasonable investigation.- SIGNY

Sig, it's an obvious lie, but it shows that the intel community is suddenly on board with Trump. Hmm. - DT

Or Trump suddenly caved in to the deep state.

Did you notice that his sworn enemies- McStain, CNN, NYT, MSNBC, Graham, and the rest of the warhawks are suddenly lauding Trump? No more RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA! in the media, NO MORE LEAKS, no more constant-yammering-hysteria? Suddenly, the cone of silence on the topic?

Trump became President last night Oh, not the day he was elected??? Disgusting and sickening of the media. Assholes.

I wonder... will the various "investigations" into "Russia's role" in our elections, and "Trump's ties to Russia" die a quiet death? Will the media faucet of hysteria be shut off for good? Or will the deep state and its complicit press turn on the taps again, if Trump should stray off the path? And will the masses once again believe the press if it should pull a ANOTHER U-turn?

And what does this mean for his other foreign policy measures? Will he cave on future trade deals?

U.S. vows to ramp up pressure on Assad in wake of missile strike

The United States is vowing to keep up the pressure on Syria after the intense nighttime wave of missile strikes from U.S. ships, despite the prospect of escalating Russian ill will that could further inflame one of the world’s most vexing conflicts.

The Trump administration signaled Friday that the U.S. could follow this week’s missile attack with new sanctions against Syria, CBS News senior foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan reports.

Standing firm, the Pentagon was even probing whether Russia itself was involved in the chemical weapons assault that compelled President Trump to action. The attack against a Syrian air base was the first U.S. assault against the government of President Bashar Assad.
