Officers responded to that hotel room and engaged the suspect, killing him, police said. They do not believe at this time that there were any other shooters, despite reports of multiple gunmen. Police said they do not have an accurate number of victims yet.... Mass Murdering Shooter was Possibly Going Through a Divorce & Sued a Las Vegas Strip Casino in 2012. The Mandala Bay resort and casino has been placed on lock-down as police hunted an “active shooter” after automatic gunfire broke out at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

Police said one suspect was "down" and at least two people were killed in the shooting, with about 26 others injured.

One music fan, who was attempting to film the band when shots were heard around the festival, captured the moment on camera.

The footage shows a few seconds of the stage before the music is interrupted by what sounds like machine gun fire.

Las Vegas killer Stephen Paddock’s unbalanced brother allegedly once threatened to kill a friend in California, court records show.

Bruce Paddock was living without permission in a San Fernando Valley home in 2014 when his friend Hector Cruz, the owner, accused him of tampering with machinery, the records filed in Los Angeles show.

When Cruz confronted him, Paddock allegedly said, “If you keep f------ with me, I am going to kill you and drop you in the desert.”

The 57-year-old Paddock also told Cruz, “Hit me like a man,” and punched his antagonist in one arm.

Cruz said he got the menacing message.

“I am extremely afraid of Paddock, who has intimidated me by his violent character and destruction of my business office and my service bay,” he said in court papers, according to the website.

Cruz told the Daily News and said in court papers that Paddock liked to get high and sold methamphetamine and marijuana. His behavior is “extremely erratic and unpredictable,” Cruz claimed.

He also told The News that Bruce Paddock was filled with paranoia and installed hidden cameras in the house and work area, as well as in his car.

“He said he had stuff to make explosives,” Cruz said. “He’s just a crazy guy. He was getting money from his mother and leaching off the government. He was extremely intelligent, but he was just trash.”

Investigators now believe that the 64-year-old Paddock, who murdered 58 people and injured nearly 500 others when he fired out of his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, may have been in physical or mental anguish, the sources told the news organization.

While Paddock had been prescribed the anti-anxiety medication Valium, according to state and federal law enforcement officials, FBI officials don’t believe that Paddock’s mental health had deteriorated to the point that would have triggered him to commit mass murder. Two FBI officials told NBC News that they still have not identified a clear motive.

“While some of it has helped create a better profile into the madness of the suspect, we still do not have a clear motive or reason why,” he said.

Authorities have yet to turn up a manifesto, a social media post or anything else offering an explanation of the Sunday night shooting.

McCahill refuted a report that a hotel key card was used to enter Paddock’s room at a time when the millionaire gambler’s car was gone from the hotel garage.

The report suggested a second person had access to the suite where Paddock, 64, made his final stand with a cache of 23 weapons and thousands of rounds of ammo.

That's a careless thing to say. I even said above that I "suspect" that this might have something to do with stricter gun control laws in other countries, but there isn't much evidence to this. Especially not enough to say you're "incredibly confident" that this is the reason.

There are other countries that have lax gun control laws that don't have the amount of mass shootings we have in the US. We're also talking about an extremely small percentage of people who would do something like this.

For instance, do you believe that if we were somehow to magically remove 50% of all guns in America overnight that we would effectively cut all future mass shootings here by 50% as well? That's what the statement in the article says. Not only would that be impossible to prove, but I doubt it would have any impact whatsoever on the number of future shootings.

There are many reasons why more shootings would happen here. I'm not denying that access is one of them, but to blame it squarely on the guns is not honest, and it ignores trying to get to the actual source of the problems. Many Muslims have proven that you don't need a gun. Somebody who wants to do this will find a way to do it.

The officers were the first to see Paddock's body and the arsenal of weapons and ammunition he had stockpiled.
Officer Dave Newton from the Las Vegas Police Department's K-9 unit said he noticed a note on the shooter's nightstand once officers breached the room. He said the note was located near one of the windows that Paddock had smashed with a hammer to fire onto the crowd below with high-powered semi-automatic rifles outfitted to increase their rate of fire.

The crowd was approximately 400 yards away, well within range of the expensive custom-made rifles found in his suite.
Newton told Whitaker what it was like to enter the room amid the flashing lights of a fire alarm set off by an explosive used to blow through the door.
"Very eerie. Yeah, the dust from the explosive breach. And then you have the flashing lights," Newton said. "And that looked straight, like, out of a movie, you know?"
Whitaker spoke to the team in their first in-depth interview and to Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo for a story to be broadcast on "60 Minutes" this Sunday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.
