For some reason these songs from my childhood are coming back ...

Yes, I am familiar with many obscure old songs, your point?

I go on YouTube & listen to a) instrumentals or b) oldies songs
pretty often.
One of my favorite singers is Ken Curtis who, like Roy Rogers,
was once a lead singer with Sons of the Pioneers.

In those days, western music was ballads, beautiful, soothing.
Then almost overnight, maybe even in the 50's, the style began
to change. It became Country-Western music ... they'd all sing
it thru their noses to make it sound whiney, I guess. { ugh:( }
Well, not Johnny Cash ... he's himself.

I like Harv Presnell, too, who would sing several different styles.

BRENDA ... I remember these songs because I'm old. How the heck do YOU remember them?

OONJ, have any specific titles to share? I wouldn't mind listening.

OF course, there were the novelty songs too. Some of the were funny, some were silly, and one was downright creepy. Do you remember

"I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn" (Little Nash Rambler)

"Or would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar?"

"My mommy said not to put beans in my ears" (which we, as children, perverted to "My mommy and daddy put beans in their rears" ... which we NEVER sang around our parents!)

And the creepy one "'I love you! I love you!' said the little blue man. 'I love you! I love you to bits!'"

In the other thread (Coffee!) you mentioned all the old radio shows. I only remember a few - we were too little to stay up and listen to some of them, but I do recall the intro to Gunsmoke (I think) on the radio, as well as The Shadow.

What I recall is having to get up on cold dark winter mornings for school (ugh!) and listening to The Farm Report on the prices of wheat, corn, hogs, and freshening cows.

It sure was a different time back then. Sigh.

My only real exposure to the oldies was the Fallout franchise. There's some pretty sweet songs in there from around the 40's or so in Fallout 3.

That's the only game in the series that I've played, so I don't really know the full story, but I believe that this is the era of music being played in that universe because WWII was devistating and basically the end of the world for anybody not benefiting from the US government vault-tec systems. A generation or two lived in these vaults before they started making their way back out onto the surface where the wildlife has been grossly mutated and even humans who were on the surface and didn't die have become mutants.

There was no new music after the 40's, so the guys who were tech minded enough to get the radio towers back on play the hits from the 30's and 40's. :)

Here's a pretty creepy one. I wonder if this was actually played on the radio:

My bro and his wife were huge into this game before they got married. They played a few of the songs from it at their wedding during the dinner part. (Not Butcher Pete.... lol)

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Ok. Thanks.

Here is the song that always makes me think of Serenity.
The video sucks, but here's hoping she can find a new way to fly someday... before I die.

If I put in the links, my post goes tilt. :(
oldies, romantic songs, here are some titles & singers:

Harve Presnell:
  They Call the Wind Maria
  Shenandoah
  Friendly Persuasion

Johnny Cash:
  Wabash Cannonball
  A Boy Named Sue
  Ghost Riders in the Sky
  The Highwayman

Ken Curtis:
  I'll Take You Home Again
What Makes A Man To Wander
  The Hills of Utah

I said they're corny ... but pretty, too.
Ken Curtis: Damn, he was cute before they turned him into Festus!
