Just for the fun of it.

A Break in the D.B. Cooper Hijacking Case

The legend of D.B. Cooper is as mysterious as it is fascinating. In the 1970s, he committed a crime so unheard of at that time, he captured the attention of the world. Hijacking an airplane, he boldly premeditated the in-air takeover and was never heard from again. Baffling the FBI and national authorities, the question remains: How can an unknown man get away with a crime of such a large scale?
Recently, there has been some new details in the unsolved case, that may provide a much awaited break in his disappearance. These newly unearthed facts may just be what’s needed to solve this head-scratching mystery.

My gramma & my Mom were born-raised in Missouri. Pretty warm there,
lotta reptiles & amphibians. Neither of them were afraid of snakes,
poisonous or not, so the notion that I, being a girl, was supposed
to be afraid of them just didn't take. Indeed, I had illustrated books
about them that I enjoyed studying.
Whenever I found reptiles in the neighborhood, I'd catch 'em &
bring them home. Mom let me keep them only for a little while; since
they were Nature's creatures, they needed & deserved freedom.

I grew up curious about & respecting rather than fearing snakes.
"Yuck! They're slimy!" A misconception.
Amphibians are slimy. Snakes & lizards, nice & dry.

You should be able to do it yourself, if they haven't blocked it yet. Officially the upgrade to 10 ended sometime in 2016, but people have still been able to get it. (Windows 10 is basically free now anyhow, although you'd get a pretty non-obtrusive watermark in the bottom right corner telling you to activate it and you would have limited ability to personalize your desktop). So you'd have to install it over the Windows 7, rather than reformat the drive and do a clean install.

According to this link, it still worked as of November 3rd of this year.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-window
s-10-upgrade
/

Your PC should be powerful enough to run it without any issues.

Things you should have before attempting it:

1. The Windows Activation Key that came with your computer.

2. The CD that came with the computer that has all of the basic drivers. (If the upgrade works, you likely won't need it because all of the drivers should carry over. This is only in case you find out that your activation key for Windows 7 won't work on the upgrade and you have to install the free version of Windows 10).

Keep in mind that I'm kind of regretting upgrading myself, but I've been too lazy to back everything up, reformat my drive and re-install Windows 7. It does a lot of things better and you'll probably be glad you made the upgrade. For somebody like me that does a LOT of work manipulating data and dealing with thousands of files though, the search functions in 10 really suck, some behind the scenes and little used features I've used since Windows 95 are completely absent and the stuff I used that still works takes a lot longer than it did in Windows 7.

Windows 10 is meant to be a multi-platform device, and they're still working the bugs out. Windows 7 was meant for desktops/laptops. Windows 10 is also meant for tablets and probably certain cell phones too. Because of this, it's not ideal for some people who just want a computer OS.

If you're a pretty light user and really just use it for internet/email and some light gaming, Windows 10 with your computer's specs should suit you fine, and you'll probably find that the internet runs even better for you and some new features you're not getting will surprise you.

Good luck.

I think that's probably the right move. Like I said, I kind of want to downgrade back to Windows 7 on one of my PCs. Part of it is lazyness, but I also do something called "folding" that would be put on hold for a day or two while I worked out the kinks, and I pretty heavily use that computer on a nearly daily basis, so some of my hobby work would be taking a back seat while it was done. My free time actually has some value to me now that I'm working again :)

I hate seeing somebody pay for the abandon-ware, since it's so easily attainable for free for the last two decades, but it isn't exactly for novices most of the time if you go the free route. Although, admittidly, I'm glad I have a lot of that stuff backed up in a few spots because the "abandoned" part is being dropped from a lot of stuff with sites like GOG and it's not as easy to get anymore.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the games or the PCs. I'm happy to help.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

You do realize that the program was created to identify possible new technologies of other countries. When an unidentifiable flying object was spotted, the main concern was that another country's technology may have exceeded ours. So, we developed a program to track this.

Makes for interesting fodder as far as conspiracy theorists go doesn't it?

Scrolling down past your article reveals a depressing story I didn't need to read before leaving for my menial job tonight.

Quote:

It's no secret robots are a growing threat to the human workforce. The World Bank estimates 57 percent of all jobs could be automated within the next 20 years. So how can humans stay one step ahead of the computers? By emphasizing something AI can never replicate: good old-fashioned human curiosity.

I know I'm younger than my grandpa was when I noticed he had a fear of tech. 20 years from now kinda scares the shit out of me.

I've just got a different take on it is all. Our brains are really nothing more than extremely sophisticated computers, at least in some aspects. We can't actually beat the most sophisticated AI at chess anymore, and there is no way that we could keep up with the insane amount of processes that even the cheapest consumer PCs can do, but at least for now we have emotions and a desire to learn and for self preservation.

I believe that there are people today who would be able to create AI that could become self aware, but we don't yet have the hardware capable of making that code become a reality. We can fake it pretty good, but at the moment it is just following our code.

I spent a few days with my brother and dad last week. My bro is a little immature and wanted to show us what Siri (apples version of Alexa) would say back to him when he verbally abused her. I know it was just a coincidence that after he started doing it that his network went down, but I had to laugh when my dad said that maybe Siri did that.

On the drive home, my old man and I were talking about self-driving cars and how one day my brother might actually be able to drive even with his disabilities with one of them. I told my dad, "well yeah, but he better hope that Siri doesn't remember all the bad shit he said to her. She's likely to lock the doors on him and drive him off a cliff".

I'm 50/50 on there being a God. I'd love for their to be one, but I can't take the plunge myself. I see no reason why mankind can't create a "living" organism that can think real thoughts and feel real emotions. Damn near every other "futuristic" thing that was in sci-fi movies when I was a kid has already become a reality besides (maybe) time travel.

My advice to anybody who is foolish enough to invite Siri or Alexa into their home is to not do what my brother does and be nice to her. Just because she's not self aware yet, you never know what she will "remember" from the data she's storing in her database now that she's just a novelty.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

If customer service doesn't take your word on stuff, I'd cancel the credit card. But you said that you already did that? But you were paying a credit card bill?

I'm not following exactly what's going on here.

What email service are you using? I've never had Malwarebytes interfere with sending an email before. I'm assuming that you must be using an "app" like Outlook? I've never once used Outlook before, but since it's a program on your computer I could see this happening. I've always used hotmail, gmail or a cable company provided email address. Malwarebytes shouldn't be able to interfere with any of those services.

I've been a fan of Malwarebytes for years. I always use that and AVG Free Antivirus on my PCs. I was considering switching AVG to another antivirus once they started popping up some intrusive ads to purchase the full edition, but I figured out that you can turn off notifications in the settings.

I wouldn't change from Malwarebytes. Maybe if you could provide a bit more info about what exactly was going on we can figure out why that email won't send.

Sure thing, OONJ.

I recently had a few false transactions on a card. They were more than happy to work it out with me. It did require destroying my old card number and getting a new one expedited to me. The charges were minor, but after talking with customer service we believe this was likely an attempt for somebody to "test the waters" and see if they could get away with a few small transactions before moving on to something bigger. I guess this is becoming a pretty common criminal practice now.

I can't say how the card companies would react to somebody with bad credit who was always late on their payments, but having never missed one myself I find that both my card issuers and my bank pretty much bend over backward for me on the rare occasion I need to speak with somebody.

If you're having difficulties with them and you're up to date on your payments, it might have been failure to communicate as you said. My one card provider I recently had to speak with several times has a call center in India that you need to deal with. Perhaps you had come into the conversation a little panicky and having to deal with an accent you're not used to dealing with added to the frustration and you didn't get anywhere.

Just relax. This stuff happens quite a lot and in my experience the two times in my life that somebody got a hold of my card information they were wonderful about it and got it all cleared up for me without me having to pay a dime for it.

We'll get it sorted out. :)

P.S. Don't send me any sensitive data or anything. I'll tell you that you could trust me with it, but I'll also tell you not to trust anybody with it, especially somebody who says that you should trust them with it.

Bigfoot got her? She was so close to exposing their existence... too close maybe!

Well, that makes a believer out of me. To bad, I liked her. Do you want to be the one to create a remembrance thread G?

I can see OONJERAH now. Rushing in defying the danger and dying in a horrific way. Hey G, do you think bigfoot ate her?

Neither! She's too 'squatchie!
I think the question is did they kidnap her and make her Queen of the 'Squatches, or did she join them and is working her way up through the ranks?? Maybe she'll pop in some day and let us know - that will be some tale!

I don't know G. Bigfeets aren't exactly social. It's probably a better bet they ate her.

Should we send flowers?

‘The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot’ is a real movie, and it was filmed in Mass.

Yes, this is an actual movie.

I'm hearing rumors OONJERAH has been sighted somewhere on the Canadian and Minnesota border.

Could it be?

Yes! Hopefully! She has drank of the evergreen juice and will soon become one of them. I am very happy for her!

For $5,000 You Can Hunt Bigfoot With Jose Canseco

This isn’t completely out of left field for the 54-year-old outfielder. A few weeks ago, Canseco posted a series of tweets claiming aliens had given him the secrets to time travel.

How unfortunate for him that the first professional athlete of any American sport to make $1Million a year is reduced to this.

Indian Army Finds Yeti Prints?

In an eyebrow-raising announcement, the Indian Army says that one of their mountaineering teams recently stumbled upon a set of footprints which they believe were created by the elusive Yeti. The odd revelation came via a tweet from the public information department of the army earlier today. In the surprising statement, they marvel that "for the first time, an Indian Army Mountaineering Expedition Team has sited mysterious footprints of [the] mythical beast 'Yeti.'"

The tweet goes on to note that the prints appeared to measure a whopping 32 by 15 inches and that they were found earlier this month at a Makalu mountain base camp in the Himalayas. According to the Indian Army's account, the discovery is particularly intriguing because "this elusive snowman has only been sighted at Makalu-Barun National Park in the past." While they, unfortunately, did not encounter the creature themselves, the group did snap a number of photos of the footprints, including one image that appears to indicate that whatever created the impressions possessed a rather sizeable stride.
