Not exactly. It depends on what state you live in. In CA, threatening someone is assault, touching someone is battery. But in other states, assault requires touching.

The sex crimes categories in CA are pretty confusing, some of them seem very specific, but what is a "lewd or lascivious act"? Sometimes the info lists a specific action like "oral copulation" ... doesn't that meet the definition of rape? but most times not.

These are examples from the registered sex offender map of my neighborhood

Annoy or molest a child under 18
Sexual penetration with foreign object with force or fear
Lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 (there were five of these)
Attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 (two of these)
Continuous sexual abuse of a child
Continuous sexual abuse of a child AND Lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14

Nowhere does it say ... "Thought about having sex with someone". In this sampling, there wasn't even one instance of possession of pornography, which is the lowest classification offense you can have and still get on the sex offenders list. I was surprised at the number of offenders who abused children under 14.

Sexual assault seems to more about power than sex and the number of pedophiles was truly astounding. And BTW, all of the offenders were men.

Nobody is asking you, SIX, to apologize for something that you didn't do. Just like violent political action, I localize the crime to the person who committed it - I don't generalize that person's crime to anyone else.

But when you say that you don't like being told what to do .... first of all, I assume that if you're a libertarian what you means is I don't like being told what to do as long as I;m not coercing anyone, and/or I'm only hurting myself. But it's in the nature of people living together in a functional society that there will HAVE To be rules laid out, if only so that the strong don't prey on the weak. Because if you think that the answer for sexual assault is a good kick in the balls from the intended victim, what does a child do? Or an elderly person? Or someone who is mentally or physically disabled? The idea that there shouldn't be any rules - and nobody to enforce them- is a fantasy which only benefits the predators among us.

Depending on the mood of the officer and the mood of the judge for the day, simply urinating outdoors even at two in the morning can put you on the sex offender map. Not something that anybody who could afford a decent lawyer would have to worry about, but it's a crap shoot if you've got a public defender. But that's just another small example of how people with no power or money get screwed.

Maybe the law doesn't say that. But when people quote a very flawed research study like Kiki did earlier and other people buy the stats, that's exactly what those particular people are saying.

And no doubt the most common of offenses. Makes you wonder the validity of the study when there's no mention of that at all.

In this case I'm not really even talking about sexual crimes or the laws and punishments against them. I'm a Libertarian, not an Anarchist. Anarchy wouldn't work, simply because there are too many bad people for it to ever work. We need police and a prison system because we need for most people to have that thought in the back of their mind that there are real consequences to their actions. The fact that we have them and it still doesn't work all of the time is only evidence of how much we actually need that.

This was more a statement on my part about the entire nature of relationships between men and women and how in any relationship a woman holds all of the cards from the moment they have sex. She has 100% reproductive rights. Although the tides may be turning, historically, she has had access to half or more of the man's cash after a divorce depending on how many kids there are in the equation. She automatically is assumed to be the parent getting the children unless she has a long history of violent, abusive behavior. She gets the house while the guy has to rent an apartment.

I'm not making any of this up, and kids aren't stupid. They're picking up on it pretty quick these days. There was no internet when I was a kid. I can't even pretend to imagine how different things would have been in my life if there were.

I'm not shunning the laws of government in general. I'm saying the laws against men regarding relationships are bullshit and I choose to evade them by not getting into one.

I already was specific.

You can't survey 14,000+ men and then only choose 4,000 of them to base your study on with no explanation why. Over 2/3rds of the men surveyed didn't count. I can think of plenty of reasons why somebody would choose to do it, but I can't think of a single reason that doesn't involve getting the desired results.

On top of that, they only surveyed 2 colleges in the entire country. I think a study of all demographics is necessary here, and to say that 13.2% of all men in college in the US are rapey based off of what rigged stats they got by picking and choosing their results at only two colleges is disingenuous at best.

I cited your study. Don't ask me to go back and figure out what page that was all on. I'm not going to bother sifting through that pile of crap again.

You completely misrepresented the paper. WAS THAT ON PURPOSE, jack?

... we excluded students who were not enrolled full- or three-quarters time or who were over the age of 25 (because of concerns about not having sufficient statistical power to generate stable prevalence rates for the small number of students falling into these subgroups and the likelihood that these students, by having a longer duration of university attendance, would have an increased chance for exposure to sexual assault that is unrelated to their status as university students). Students under the age of 18 were also excluded to avoid having to obtain parental consent for the survey.

We created four sampling subframes, with cases randomly ordered within each subframe ... We then slightly reduced the size of the subframes (using random sampling procedures) to obtain equal numbers of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Samples were then drawn randomly from each of the four subframes. The sizes of these samples were dictated by response rate projections and sample size targets.

They didn't survey people and then throw results out, jack.

They created categories and then randomly sampled in those categories, ultimately getting ~7000 responses.

And IF YOU READ THE PAPER, you'll see that there is a large body of studies that have been carried out over the years that come up with similar numbers. Do you reject ALL the studies? Is that where you're going in how you deal with facts?

Right. As I said, it was a bullshit study.

I don't buy polling data when they randomly sample a few thousand out of 300,000 million people, but at least they're using ALL of the data.

I still wouldn't have bought this study if they used all 14,000 men in the survey, but who was there to oversee the "randomization" process? I want to know what the numbers would have been if all 14,000 men were counted.

And I notice you didn't even touch on the fact of the demographics. How do you damn an entire nation on the supposed behavior of 4,000 men at 2 universities?

It's computer-driven. Apparently you have no idea about statistics - what the fundamental ideas are, the mathematics used, how it's carried out.

This PARTICULAR study is notable partly because it experimented with web-based surveying, rather than proctored/ administered surveying. Apparently people are more forthcoming when dealing with a computer than when in the presence of, or directly interacting with, another person, or persons.

I think what SIX is referring to is that somewhere between the larger, randomly-selected population and the smaller one that went thru the entire questionnaire there was some sort of winnowing process.

IIRC, the study said something like ... "Based on the response factor" ... or something like that, which made me think that they focused on students who were mostly likely to respond. I'll look up that wording.

But if this was an internet poll and the participants were self-selected for their willingness to participate, that itself might be a non-random selection.

"Based on the response factor"

Surveys never get 100% responses. There's some roughly known percentage that will reply. So they WAY oversample in order to get a minimum number of responses, in order to have better statistics.

It's the same problem with political phone sampling, and other surveys. Because of that you won't get exact answers - not good enough to predict a Trump win, for example - but you'll be within a few percentage points.

That's why it's good to compare one metric to another, and one study to another, to see if you're getting comparable results. Going through the study, the numbers do stack up compared to other studies and sources of information.

Or, as you pointed out earlier, you can't conjure up 13% out of nothing.

Well you've only shown one. And they only sampled 14,000 out of 9 million men, and then they only "randomly" used 4,000 of those samples and threw away the rest without telling us what the numbers would have been had they been counted.

(BTW... no shit they weren't doing data on 300 million people. There YOU go manipulating words when you know very well that I know how many people live in the country vs how many males are in college.)

I see now for a second time you completely disregard the fact that they ONLY SAMPLED 2 COLLEGES and damned all 9 million college age men off of their manipulated data.

jack, you seem bound and determined to believe - despite all the evidence available - that women are treated at least equally as a matter of course and aren't subject to an undue level of victimization compared to men.

One of the newest people at work is a young woman who confided she was recently forcibly raped by someone she thought was a friend, and has since come to me with complaints about a pervasive number of men who regal her with stories of their sexual conquests or declare their desires to 'have' her. These are men that I know, and they have long histories of credible complaints against them, some of which I witnessed with my own eyes.

I simply don't accept your fantasies about how great women have it because they don't square with the reality I see every day.

That's not to say that men aren't also victimized in ways women aren't.

But if you're going to have any credibility with me, you're going to have to come to grips with reality.

Men -vs- Women: Sexual assault.

Some men are gentlemen and very protective of women.
I have no idea what percentage of men enjoy sexually assaulting women.
I hope the number is less than 20%; but in real life, and when alcohol
is involved, I suspect it's closer to 35%.

The survey isn't pointing a finger at me. The survey is one of many things out there that the Liberal MSM is using to continue with the narrative that women are being victimized, and men are to blame. PATRIARCHY!

Most people are stupid, naive and gullible, and that includes women. I'm not worried about what intelligent and independent women think of a man like me, because they aren't manipulated by the media so easily. Then there's people like you-know-who on these very boards who sees me as a white male with privileged and only sees another Donald Trump type character.

Then you've got idiot, elitist, actually-over-privlidged men like Damon Young of GQ Magazine who says things like the following about ALL men:

Quote:

The scope and the pervasiveness of this culture of abuse and our roles in perpetuating it—and not “our” as in men collectively but ourselves specifically—has resulted recently in a reflexive and unwieldy and messy and self-conscious excavation of memories, relationships and interactions: a digging that has intersecting intents. It’s reconciling with what you might have done—and might currently be doing—to prevent yourself from doing it in the future. And, well, it’s asking yourself, “How fucked up am I?” Which, expressed another way, is “Wait ... should I be worried about this avalanche, too?”

The answer, of course, is hell fucking yes. We are all complicit. We are all agents of patriarchy, and we’ve all benefited from it. We are all active contributors to rape culture. All of us. No one is exempt. We all have investments in and take deposits out of the same bank. And we all need to accept and reconcile ourselves with the fact that, generally speaking, we are trash.

Speak for yourself and keep your projections the hell away from me, you virtue signalling, college-brainwashed, Regressionist Liberal, sad-sack apologist twat. Go fuck yourself, Mr. Young.

LOL....

I think that "Wild Cougar" would be a totally unbearable Feminist person to be around, but even she thinks that Mr. Young is full of shit and I actually had a laugh out loud moment reading her reply to his article.

She's under no illusion that all Mr. Young was doing here was a grand show of self-righteous virtual signalling in his article.

Quote:

Wait, I think I get it. Calling yourself trash is how men deal with the fact that they actually like patriarchy and misogyny because it benefits them. So they show shame and that covers up for the fact that they still want dominance. If you say “I’m trash” and do a little performative feminism, you can avoid changing the status quo and get credit at the same time. That’s what this is, right? Just like wypipo who come on here and performatively flog themselves as a last ditch effort to maintain dominance and still look like the good guy at the same time.

“I’m a man and I’m trash” keeps you in a superior position. You’re the bad guy who acts. You’re the agent. You have the power, you are the center of the discussion. Look at you, flogging yourself. You can decide to not be trash but it is all about you and your agency and you create reality. Right now reality is the spectacle of you calling yourself trash. No status quo change needed in this narcissistic shame show. Status quo change would require that you first STFU.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

SIX, why are you defending men who (you say) are nothing like you?

Let's grant that men are discriminated against in matter of family law (marriage and children), which seems to be your big main beef. (BTW, none of which you've had experience with, or are likely to ever experience, given your attitude.) Let's also admit that sex crime laws are variably enforced and can include peeing on a lawn at 2AM, and that the line between what is and isn't allowed should be sharpened.

That is an entirely separate issue from the harassment/ assault/ rape that many women have experienced, and that a certain percentage of young men admit to having done.

I myself has been harassed (for years) and groped. OONJ was groped. KIKI knows someone who was raped. Of the women here on the board, that's a rather high percentage, don't you think? Then why are you in denial about it?

It's not like saying that BECAUSE some men are assholes/ criminals, that men (in general) shouldn't have equal rights in family court. Admitting one doesn't deny the other.

It's not an EITHER/OR situation. Women should be free of unwanted touching, free of rude-to-intimidating public behavior, and of course free of sexual coercion and rape.

Men should have their right equally respected in court. In fact, I would go further that I think MEN should be free of being physically intimidated by other men.

Who would say "no" to that?

At the same time that I think that people (in general) need to make wise choices about who to get drunk or high with, and that those who are physically and mentally capable SHOULD be able to defend themselves (Which, given that most women are smaller than men, means that physical defense is usually not possible.) I believe that people should be free of harassing-to-criminal behavior. I don't deny the existence of such behavior ... against men as well as women, because boys and men are expected to engage in cockfights, even if they're completely outgunned ... and I believe that anyone subject to that behavior should have legal redress. I put the blame for that behavior on the perpetrator, not the victim.

It's like bullying. Bullies are identifiable; only a small percentage are bullies. What is your approach to bullying? What do you think the response should be?

Bullshit Sigs.

I watched the court system allow my Mom to have full custody of my brothers and I when my Dad was by far the more competent one to be a single parent. He had even tried to start proceedings to get full custody, but was told by his lawyer that this could take years of court dates that he'd be subjecting the three of us to, and it could also cost him 50,000 dollars (80's money) to do it, and there is no guaranty he would win and in that case he'd be on the hook for HER bills too.

Then I watched the court system allow my Mom to fleece my old man of most of his wealth, and then continue to do so until my brother was 24 years old because of his disability. They probably would have been able to do it in perpetuity, had my step-dad not beat the shit out of him one night. (Granted, he was asking for it and was extremely drunk and pushed my mother into the kitchen counter so hard she fell down. I also beat the shit out of him once... he's a nasty drunk. He's in many respects a completely capable human being, just with some limitations, and he's much better now that he's been sober for a few years).

Let's not forget that the girl I got pregnant was able to get an abortion without me even knowing she was doing it. And if the roles were reversed and she decided to keep the kid and I didn't want it, we'd either be married now or I'd still be paying child support.

I am EXTREMELY tied to the family law aspect of relationships. It's fucked my life since I was 5 years old.

Please read my last post.

I am NOT defending men who abuse or harass women.

I AM saying that how the Liberal MSM is portraying ALL MEN today is toxic.

I don't buy polling data when they randomly sample a few thousand out of 300,000 million people, but at least they're using ALL of the data.

They're not trying to represent 300 million people. Not 150 million, or even 30 million. They're representing somewhat less than 9 million male full or 3/4 time college students 18-25.

but who was there to oversee the "randomization" process?

It's computer-driven. Apparently you have no idea about statistics - what the fundamental ideas are, the mathematics used, how it's carried out.

This PARTICULAR study is notable partly because it experimented with web-based surveying, rather than proctored/ administered surveying. Apparently people are more forthcoming when dealing with a computer than when in the presence of, or directly interacting with, another person, or persons.

oh, wow. That is new info.
So, this study was biased toward Women who spend every minute glued to their phones, as opposed to responsible men who, say drive while watching the road?
How enlightening.

I think the McCarthy era was a low point. The Vietnam War was pretty low, too. Watergate was low, as was the time Nixon was deeply drunk and ready to drop "the bomb" on Vietnam. The petro-dollar arrangement was also low. In retrospect, Clinton's dismantling of the productive American economy was low. The explosive expansion of the surveillance state under "W" Bush was also low. As was Obama's drone-assassination program.

It's be hard to pick what was lowest.

Yeah... I think my niece uses that thing way too much. Maybe I'm just old though. I'm hoping that her teacher gets her excited about learning. I've tried to do things with her in the past, but she just wants to play pretend when Uncle Jack is around. The three biggest games now are she's the princess of the castle that we make out of couch pillows, or we take turns ordering McDonalds, or take turns going to the doctor and being operated on. The last time I went to the doctor, I had 4 babies.

I'm hoping she goes into healthcare when she grows up. I don't think there's real demand for Princesses in 2018 and beyond, and even I'm doing better than a McDonald's employee.

On the plus side, her teacher said that since she's been teaching my niece is the only 3 year old who recognized her own name on the wall the first day of class. So there's that.

Most of the threads here on fireflyfans are old, the Neocon Bush jnr and PirateNEws conspiracy threads go back to at least 2005, 2006, 2007

a lot of socialist discussion, Obama politics, illegal immigration threads go back to the Obama years

The Liberal Democrat ONLY thread is almost as old as this place

The Ukraine stuff has been discussed 2005, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2016 and even old threads about the USSR

The scifi and general books, movies, tv show discussions in other parts of the fireflyfans forum are as old as the hills, those board discussions almost go back to when Adam Baldwin would post on the prospero fox website and this place used to be an 'Andromeda' forum

The prediction thread dates back to 2012

However when we DISAGREE we Really Disagree

When islamics got offended by statues in America Fireflyfans user 'second' agreed with them 'second' posed Antifa BLM propaganda about historical statues
then tried to send thread discussions off topic by saying Trump was holocausting people with Corona death numbers, when Biden got into power almost no mention of Biden's failures on Covid

User second has also suggested arming all muslims inside their Mosques but not arming teachers

A thread on NASA's muslim outreach, plus a fatwa strongly denies Muslims a one-way trip to Mars ...second drives it off topic to cover for islam and talk about Antarctic exploration?

why is second always sucking the cock off terroristic pedophile islamists and making excuses for their shit culture?

Any opportunity to suck the cock off an inbred islamic terrorist or take it up the ass from islamic religion zealot second will happily take it up inside the anus?

Second posts sometimes with a level of reason, user second can write and debate
so no senile dementia yet
but there is the 'Gun' and family trauma where second wants to punish every responsible gun owner

Why the long term trauma and emotion from some person who claims to be logical??

However if you replace 'Jihadi islamists' with i dunno Vietnamese or Buddhists
and replace Republicans or Libertarian with Goldwater or George Wallace or Mussolini ...then things might slowly make sense in Second's emotional mind

What poll? NM - in the last decade we should have learned that early polling is irrelevant and only used to fill “white space” and catch eyeballs.

I don’t know why you bump any thread JT - you seem to bump every thread or have no pattern.

Nah. Watching the aggregate is a good measure of things.

The polls always oversample Democrats and give them a better rating than reality, but all the polls are showing Democrats in the toilet now so it's much worse for Democrats than the Media is letting on.

I kept telling you to demand better of your party.

Too late now.

Democrats will be lucky if the party even survives until 2030.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I'm not sure it's the "lowest point" but it may be the closest to actual change since Dems decided to represent the transnational elite (under Bill Clinton).

One can only hope. Not that I think the GOP is any better, but one of the parties HAS to collpase if we're to get out of this tweedledum-tweedledee paradigm. If the Dems are stupid enough to collapse first, that's a step in the right direction.
