That's part of it, the lesser part I think.
Main purpose of marriage in Society's view: Reproduction. The continuation of that Society.
Not only will women produce babies, but their husbands with stay with them & support
the family while the women raise the babies, hopefully to be productive adults. The married
couple still have their love life. And when they are too old to work outside the home, they
will take care of grandchildren while their kids provide for them.
Nurturing families operate in such a way as to ensure survival, opportunity, health &
happiness for all their members.
Some women are the marrying, motherly kind, & some aren't. Some men are the marrying, fatherly kind, & some aren't. But if everyone grows up to make more kids, pretty soon, we'd
have overpopulation.
Those who want an organized, clean and regular outlet for their urjez will hopefully marry
someone of like mind. Prob'ly we've all known couples long-time-married who never wanted
children & were happy that way. I knew 1 couple, however: she married for love; he married
for sex; she was never in the mood, because, you know, it was too animalistic ... she was
happy; he was always frustrated. ... Compatibility is real important too.

I'm reminded too of a couple of alternate reality stories I read as a kid ... each solved the
problem in a different way. The one by Theodore Sturgeon won't be too hard to find.

The problem with many today is that they can't except that this is where we are in history. Everything that needs fixing will be fixed if the sensible middle holds. If the doomsdayers are kept in check. Those who would through there hate, tear it all down.

Let's hope, a word that's excluded in the doomsdayers vocabulary, in twenty fifty people will look back in history to today and say, thank god the sensible middle held and things continued to improve around the world.

I think I got into it abt 1954, abt 11 yrs old. ... I think we subscribed to Astounding Science
Fiction Magazine. I can't recall all the authors now; but Asimov & Clarke were there. Heinlein.
For years, it was all I read voluntarily ... 'cept for the funny papers.

I used to read all of my dad's old sci-fi/horror comics when I was really little, and we were thrilled when they started re-printing them in the late 80s. There really were some awesome stories in there that I still remember to this day. I know that my favorite TV show Black Mirror drew some pretty heavy influences from some of those old stores for a few episodes.

One of the best things my old mad did was put the nerd in me. Took me a while to embrace it, but man I sure do love me some good sci-fi.
