Yes, a thread about Russia!

Quote:

Drawing a stark contrast between himself and his counterpart in the US, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise appearance at Khmeimim Airbase in Syria - which has traditionally been used by the Russian air force - on Monday morning, where he ordered the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria, now that the ISIS insurgency that once controlled roughly one-third of the country’s land area has been effectively dismantled.
Er, not quite. According to South Front, ISIS took 30 villages from the OTHER terrorist group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly as Nusra, formerly al Qaeda in Syria) in northeastern Hama, and is actively fighting the American-backed SDF over oilfields in southeastern Deir Ezzor.

I'm telling you, something weird is going on.

Trump withdraws funding from the CIA in Syria (he says), but not the Pentagon.

Then there is an attempted (CIA-backed) coup in Turkey, which Erdogan survives, causing Erdogan to maneuver to Russia.

Then Trump fires some cruises missiles into Syria, doing remarkably little damage in the process.

The American military tries to establish a separatist Kurdish region in Syria by dumping the Wahhabist terrorists but promoting the "SDF".

Saudi Arabia makes nice with Russia (trade deals) but then makes nasty with Qatar.

There is a (so far) successful palace coup in Saudi Arabia, apparently supported by Trump, in which deep-state (Clinton)-affiliated actors are stripped of their freedom and wealth (and in some cases, lives), placing Mohamed bin Salam (MBS) solely in power

Saudi Arabia and Israel openly ally to make trouble in Lebanon with the resignation of dual Saudi-Lebanese Prime Minister Saleh.

Trump recognizes Jerusalem as "the" capital of Israel.

The Houthi forces kill former President Saleh after pitched battles in Sanaa; meanwhile the Saudis with USA help continue their war crimes there.

Putin claims victory and starts withdrawal of Russian troops (but promises to return if terrorists once again gain momentum).

Extra Extra, Putin driven out of Syria. Today Putin decided they could not win in Syria so he ran for the hills. As he did so he tried to take credit for defeating DASH. A battle he participated in for about a month, due to the fact he mostly hid behind America all these years. Witnesses to the event say they saw the Russian leader sobbing uncontrollably. His embarrassment was just to great for him to contain.

What I think is going on is that the old power centers are being displaced, and new centers of power are taking their place. The solid connections are breaking apart, and a new configuration is forming.

It's hard to outline the "old" centers of power because they're been hidden for a long time, but if I had to put a name on the losing side, it would be "CIA".

The CIA lost Iran about 1990 and has been trying to replace that government ever since. The State Dept/ CIA and their "partners" in the Mideast (jihadist-supporting Saudi Arabia and Qatar; and Israel) fanned the flames of the "Arab Spring" and temporarily took over Egypt, but failed.

They then tried to install a new govt in Libya, but all they managed to do was make a failed state/ terrorist haven. They then tried to replace the Syrian government using their terrorist proxies and a western "coalition" of some 70 nations, but failed on that. And once they saw the strategic importance of Crimea ... when Russia sent ships athwart the Syrian coast .... they tried to take over Crimea too. They also tried to overthrow Erdogan (Turkey) in a coup, but failed there as well.

It looks to me like the old CIA/ State-KSA connections in Saudi Arabia - the ones who were managing the petrodollar-sovereign wealth fund, the ones who contributed over a hundred million dollars to the "Clinton Foundation" - were deposed in a coup by MBS, whose interests are much more narrow than the old Royal Family consensus, and which focus on Iran and Yemen and making KSA a "technology center" (Good luck with that, you religious nut-jobs!)- not all that "other stuff".

So overall, the takeover of the Middle East by CIA/ State and its proxies seems to have stalled out. Iran, of course, has been a Russian partner for decades, but we can now include Egypt and Syria. Half of Libya is cozying up to Russia. Qatar has seen the handwriting on the wall (no American/ Qatari pipeline thru Syria!) and is managing its common Iranian/ Qatari gas field in cooperation with Iran. Erdogan in Turkey has also opportunistically cozied up to Russia, especially since they saved his ass from a coup. Even Saudi Arabia, with its recent deal-making with Russia and palace coup, seems to be placing a toe in the "other" camp.

The only unmoved pieces are Israel and the petrodollar.

I suspect that the deal with Israel behind the scenes is something like: We'll give you Jerusalem but you have to stop trying to overthrow Syria. Once that happens, foreign troops - i.e. Saudi-supported jihadists, Russians and Iranians - can leave Syria and we can deescalate the situation. Obviously, I could be entirely wrong, but I don't believe in coincidences of this magnitude.

The petrodollar is still a problem for everyone. The Gulf States - minus Qatar- are still members of the "petrodollar" club. They depend on us and our dollar's value, and we depend on them for oil. More importantly, our Treasury Dept depends on them to buy our debt, and international banks who deal in dollars depend on the value of the petrodollar to prop up the USD as the "world reserve currency". Until the petrodollar falls significantly in value, that's the kind of relationship that we and the Gulf States are locked into.

Looks like Russia may have to face DASH for real after all.

Returning ISIS fighters are a 'real threat' to Russia, according to security-service chief

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Former militants from "bandit units" in Syria are now a real threat after the defeat of Islamic State, as many of them may be now planning to return to Russia, the RIA news agency cited the head of Russia's FSB security service as saying on Tuesday.

The FSB head, Alexander Bortnikov, also told a meeting of Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee the security service had uncovered an underground cell of extremists from Central Asia planning to carry out "terrorist acts" during the New Year and Russia's 2018 presidential campaign in the Moscow region.

US fighter jets 'head-butt' Russian jets in Syria, US official says

A pair of U.S. Air Force stealth fighter jets intercepted two Russian attack jets in Syria, an area off-limits to Russian jets based on a long-standing mutual agreement, a U.S. defense official told Fox News on Thursday.
During the incident, both American F-22 jets fired flares after cutting across the front of the Russian jets, a tactic known as ‘head-butting,’ meant to send a strong warning to an opposing warplane.
