Fake news published in the U.S. was overwhelmingly consumed and shared by right-wing social media users, a new study from the University of Oxford has revealed.

Research from Oxford's "computational propaganda project" investigated into the sources of "junk news" shared in the three months leading up to President Donald Trump's first State of the Union address last month.

On Facebook, they found that "extreme hard-right" conservatives shared more fake news stories than all other political groups combined, while on Twitter, Trump supporters consumed the most fake news.

Could it be that they are low IQ gullible people that can't reason for themselves?

Hmmm.

Flaw Jack? A study done at Oxford is flawed, because you Jack say so? Now that's funny. Also, the fact that you can't distinguish the difference between Russia and England is sad. And yes, telling.

I'll give you a hint. England ally, Russia foe. England represents a free society, Russia does not.

The flaw is in Wishy's argument that the study is valid because it was done outside of the USA. Since that was her only parameter for justifying the study, it would be safe then to assume that if the study was done in Russia than it would be just as valid. If it makes you feel better, insert [BLANK] country out of the 192 other countries that don't include the US, UK or Russia.

Although I didn't speak at all about the study itself, there are very, very many reasons why it could be flawed itself.

Without looking any further into it at the moment, I find it rather telling that under the "ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND DISCLOSURES" section of the actual study, it says the following:

Quote:

Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation, the European Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, or the University of Oxford.

That's sure a handy cop-out to use. One that somebody with an agenda might be smart enough to put in their "study" if they thought that it didn't actually hold up under any amount of scrutiny.

So, right there, either the research team is being completely disingenuous with their findings and giving this story to Newsweek, and/or Newsweek themselves is guilty of contributing to the "Fake News" epidemic when the very first line of their article says:

Quote:

No witty retort on this one from Wishy or T, huh?

Here's some more information I found from a website I've never heard of before (before you go claiming that I'm siting more fake news if you've heard of it).

I'll link the full article below, but here are some of the highlights:

Quote:

Contrary to the claim that conservatives are sharing the most fake news, the study proves nothing other than finding conservatives tend to share conservative media online.

...

The sweeping claim that Trump supporters circulate more fake news than "all other political audience groups combined" was based on analysis of three months of tweets.

...

The analysis does not include any reference to what websites are actually on the "junk news" list... The list was not derived from "across the political spectrum," but full of mainstream conservative news and commentary sites, with no mainstream sites from the left.

...

Just 6 out of 91 sources of the "junk news" list are left-wing websites, and none are easily recognizable.

The six left-wing websites include: BipartisanReport.com, CrooksAndLiars.com, DeepStateNation.com, OccupyDemocrats.com, ShareBlue.com, and DailyNewsBin.com, which no longer exists. The site became the Palmer Report, a liberal blog.

...

There are 70 right-wing websites, with varying degrees of views on the spectrum. Many are marginal, and some publish unverified stories, such as PuppetStringNews.com. Numerous sites on the "junk news" list are, however, mainstream conservative outlets that are widely read and shared.

The Drudge Report—a news site that receives more than 2 million unique visitors daily—is "junk news," according to Oxford. So are Breitbart and the Daily Caller, which are also among the top 100 visited media publications.

Also listed as "junk news" are popular conservative outlets Campus Reform, CNSNews.com, Fox News personality Sean Hannity's official website, Hot Air, NewsBusters, Red State, and the Federalist, which features mostly commentary.

I'm the last person here who's going to say that FOX News is any less fake than CNN or MSNBC, but when a study like this is done it needs to be unbiased. When only 6 of 91 sites used in the study are left-wing websites, and none of them are names most people have ever even heard of, but you have a prominent FOX News personality in there like Hannity and don't include Maddow and/or Olbermann, this is clearly a $200,000, taxpayer funded, 6 page propaganda report that even says in the fine print that the findings, opinions, conclusions or recommendations are not to be considered those of anybody but the 6 individuals who wrote it.

ALSO OF NOTE:

Not only have I not been able to find any evidence of Vidya Narayanan, Vlad Barash, John Kelly, Bence Kollanyi, Lisa-Maria Neudert or Philip N. Howard correcting the record and pointing this fine-print disclaimer in their study when all the left-wing outlets sourcing it are touting the name of Oxford University in the titles of their articles, but they seem to embrace it.

Add to that the fact that Oxford University itself has yet to use their Get Out Of Jail Free card to recuse themselves of this situation to avoid any potential fallout.

My advice to Oxford is to do so promptly. If this "study" gets much more mainstream attention and gets knocked down for the partisan propagandized hit-piece it actually is, it is going to be embarrassing to the good name of Oxford institution.

JAYNEZTOWN

but little talk of a....'conspiracy'

for example

A leftwing Londonistan wants the media of the USA to be more like Londonistan?

David Kelly murder?

they may even do a 'fictional' tv show story on this Mark Strong to Star in Fox Espionage tv series Thriller ‘Deep State’?

Art imitating life imitating art

Barry Levinson did a 'Wag the Dog' movie in the 1990s?

so where are we now on media...
and ....so here is the US Left? taking advice from a Nation that prides itself on censorship and Londonistan Cops chasing down and jailing people for criticizing Arab moslem terrorists on facebook and jailing people for anti-Islam tweets?

England, Britain...freaked out blamed music and VHS videos for violence, banned video games, looking back at Britain's Moral Panic Over Slasher Flicks and Horror movies like Evil Dead....banned the Spider-Man movie director's movies...Irish traditional folk music was banned seen as too rebel and terroristic, music was banned for being to sexy violent or vulgar, the Sex Pistol punk rocker guy who spoke against a globalist pedophile was banned had media cut deleted censored, Battleship Potemkin was banned as socialist communist propaganda...its not its just a great movie the British elite hated...Japanese historical drama horror film Onibaba banned as well as Chinese kungfu movies and Japan samurai films, the State media BBC has banned songs Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Ken Dodd, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby, the Sex Pistols were almost totally banned, Queen's "Killer Queen" and the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays"...after the former dead Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher died the BBC did their best to ban the song from reaching number one.....to combat the bans on movies and music and other media, for example 1990s and 1980s Horror fans set up clubs, wrote fanzines, and traded tapes at film fairs and in classified ads, they traded media within their own community, these third- or fourth-generation copies of tapes smuggled in from the Continent

none of the bans worked

and for some reason... even though the BBC and other international media parrots the same globalist propaganda about bombing Libya, or Iraq having weapons of mass destruction...perpetual war for the military industrial complex in Vietnam and other places....and somehow the Neo-Liberal or Regressive Left feels the USA must take advice and follow these Euro British and other jackass globalist nitwits

The Nature of the Beast: A DNA Detective Story

"Almost, but not quite human, the Yeti, Almasty, Sasquatch and
counterparts from wild regions of the world, still exert a powerful
atavistic influence on us."

A pretty left-field topic, no?
Author Bryan Sykes is a retired Oxford professor of genetics.
I don't see Oxford disclaiming his publications.

I suspect the Brits have a different take on fake news than we

offensive. Perhaps they'll sell a few more papers before using

That's a very interesting take on it, Oonj. I like it. Glad to see you're back. Hope you weren't ill or anything and whatever gave you a vacation from here was pleasant.

It is a kind of "The Sun revolves around us" mentality to think that everything is about the US, innit.

Oxford might consider it a joke, but the 6 people who wrote it surely didn't. You can check all of their Twitter feeds about it. They're dead serious. If I was heading Oxford right now, I would have already made a statement emphasizing that the views in the study do not reflect the views of Oxford University.

It will be interesting to see how far this goes, or if it just dies out like most things do.

Oonj didn't seem to have any problems with any of my logic, and aside from you coming in here to throw yet another baseless insult my way, neither has anybody else had anything further to say on the issue either.

It wasn't an Oxford endorsed study. If you actually read the study yourself instead of just regurgitating your propaganda, you would have known that.

It's already been outlined why this is a falsified study, T. When you set up your little experiment with carefully chosen variables which will ensure that you get the results you were looking for, and then you don't even put in enough on one end to even give it the pretense of being unbiased, then you end up with this study.

Once again, I'll ask that you actually read the study for yourself before commenting on it anymore. Please stop telling other people what they should do before you at least do that.

First of all, he just offers an opinion based on a conversation he had, his interpretation of it anyway.

That ain't science rappy. The Oxford and the Yale studies are based on science.

Secondly, he then confirms the study results
by agreeing with it's conclusion. Only for different reasons.
Again based on his opinion.

Studies done by Oxford and Yale come to the same conclusion,
yet you chose to believe someone who talks to you from a youtube channel.
Can you say dummy?

If you understood science you would know he must disprove
Yale's and Oxfords studies results. Where's his study rappy?
Other than I spoke with someone on the phone. What a moron.

We all know that you won't actually do that though, don't we? We all know the only test that any news story or study actually needs to hold water in your eyes is whether it falls in line with your ideology.

Talk is cheap asshole. Post proof the study is flawed and inaccurate. Don't for a minute think you saying so cuts it.

Ok, I've responded enough to you troll.

I did you fucking moron.

Learn to read.

I can read can you. And if you do read something do you have the cognitive skills to understand what you've read, and just as important, who wrote it.

I told you to post some proof. Perhaps a counter study done by a reputable university. Not a referral to a link. One where another reporter gives his opinion. An opinion not based on a scientific research study. One like that of Yale and Oxford. No, instead you refer me to an opinion piece done by an ultra conservative.

And are you even aware these are the same guys who first commissioned the steel dossier? They wanted to smear Trump so a different republican ( who they wanted ), would win the nomination.

I really need to stop responding to you. I know, if I ever respond to you in a quote again you win. If I don't, I do.

Bye

"From October 2015 to May 2016, the Washington Free Beacon hired Fusion GPS to conduct opposition research on "multiple candidates" during the 2016 presidential election, including Donald Trump. The Free Beacon stopped funding this research when Donald Trump had clinched the Republican nomination."

The study featured only 6 progressive sites out of 91. None of them are known by almost anybody. Conversely, over 70 of them were Conservative outlets, many of which are high profile and have been around for years. Sean Hannity's site is one of them, although there were no websites from prominent Progressive figureheads.

Well?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

A guy making youtube videos in his basement. Who has opinions about everything. He reads other peoples researched papers then gives his biased opinion. That's his research process. He picks and choses from what others write about, then criticizes it and gives his opinion on the topic.

Are you to dumb to realize he in not reporting, but instead summarizing things the way he sees it. And where are his experts confirming what he says. A twitter post is all the research documentation he presents. And it shows he got it wrong in the video you praised. He got it wrong rappy. So what does he do. He tries to make the same point again trying a different approach. The fact that he had his facts wrong and yet came to conclusion he did, shows his bias. So, second try rappy, he's wrong again is all.

You really are low brow. And one more thing. You are proving Oxford and Yale correct. You are doing exactly what they say you guys do. The guy in the video is doing it as well. You search out others who think as you do. Then you share it. You do this because the mainstream doesn't think the way you guys do. The mainstream try's at least to stay within the realm of reality. You know, the facts. What fucking morons some of you here are.

Yep, you guys are the poster boys for Oxford and Yale's research study. I'll stick with the mainstream. As well as Yale and Oxford if you don't mind. And I'm glad I'm represented as being that way in these threads.

If you don't know who someone is, why make make absurd assumptions which are demonstrably false ?

You WANT the Oxford study to be accurate, just as you WANT the MSM to be actual journalists who just report facts. Neither is the case.

I'm laughing at your feeble attempt to grasp @ straws as you show your colossal ignorance. About a great many things.

No rappy. I tend to believe or give a modicum of credit to institutions like the mainstream media, and time honored universities over guys who make videos in their basements.

Holy shit rappy. Go back and read what has transpired in our conversation so far and see what an ass you've been, and are.

You're a useful idiot for the establishment. I get that. I really do. But if you understood the issue, or even bothered to follow along w/ what was being discussed, you'd not show what a blatant ass you are. Well, I guess you would, being a troll and all.

Sorry to burst your Matrix view on the real world ( not sorry )

No rappy, the difference between someone who follows mainstream media, believes in America's democratic and educational institutions, and someone who gets his information from guys making videos in their basement is, pay attention now...One is sane and the other is not. One is firmly rooted in reality and the other is not.

The difference between you and me rappy is that I am sane and firmly rooted in reality. Sadly, you are not.
