Trump has spent more visiting Mar-a-Lago than Mueller has on Russia probe

The president has repeatedly attacked the Mueller probe for racking up millions of dollars in expenditures, doing so most recently this week after the Justice Department reported that the special counsel's office had spent roughly $16.7 million on expenses in just over a year of investigation.

"A.P. has just reported that the Russian Hoax Investigation has now cost our government over $17 million, and going up fast. No Collusion, except by the Democrats!" Trump tweeted Friday.

But that number is dwarfed by the amount required to pay for the president's numerous trips to the "Winter White House," which Washington Post and Politico analyses have estimated to cost taxpayers on average between $1 million and $3 million dollars per trip.

As of Dec. 26, Trump had spent 39 days at Mar-a-Lago in 2017. Trump took his 17th trip to the property in April, according to Town and Country magazine.

Trump, who has been criticized for his frequent outings to Trump properties, particularly golf courses, has invoked his own criticism of Obama's golfing trips on numerous occasions. Trump surpassed the pace of Obama's golf outings, making 56 total trips so far compared to Obama's 37 at the same point in his presidency, according to Politifact.

I want to see whatever documents and proof there is that these expenditures are on the taxpayer dime.

This is something to be angry about if it is, but I see no evidence of it in this article.

First, if it's fake then the White House will prove the reporting wrong because it, as you say is something for the taxpayer to be angry about.

Secondly, "Winter White House," which Washington Post and Politico analyses have estimated to cost taxpayers on average between $1 million and $3 million dollars per trip." As of Dec. 26, Trump had spent 39 days at Mar-a-Lago in 2017. Trump took his 17th trip to the property in April, according to Town and Country magazine.

They are not going to report some of the details because it would be redundant and boring. Besides, look at the numbers. Think about the security, plane, guests and so on. These numbers are real.

Hey, you really what a laugh. Look up what it is costing the taxpayer to protect Trump Towers. That'll make you laugh.

T

This obviously costs money. I'm not denying that.

I'm asking where the accounting is for where the money is coming from. It is possible that taxpayers aren't paying for it, though not likely.

I'm not going to just believe that the expenses are ours unless there is proof of it though.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

You really are brain lazy Jack. Air Force One accounts for a big chunk of the presidential travel budget, costing more than $180,000 per hour to operate, reports CBS News correspondent Manuel Bojorquez. That means the roughly four-hour roundtrip flight to his seaside estate costs more than $700,000.

During his eight years in office, Mr. Obama racked up about $97 million in travel costs. Mr. Trump is on pace to eclipse that by the end of his first year.

Another cost of keeping Mr. Trump safe? Disruptions to businesses near Mar-a-Lago. The airspace around Lantana Airport in Palm Beach County is restricted whenever the president is in town. On an average day, there are around 300 takeoffs and landings. But when the president is there, nothing’s moving — except the bottom line for businesses that operate out of this airport. They say they lose about $30,000 each weekend they’re closed.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Wrenching this thread back on-topic ...

Quote:

London ‘bridges’ falling down: Curious origins of FBI’s Trump-Russia probe

The bridge to the Russia investigation wasn’t erected in Moscow during the summer of the 2016 election.

It originated earlier, 1,700 miles away in London, where foreign figures contacted Trump campaign advisers and provided the FBI with hearsay allegations of Trump-Russia collusion, bureau documents and interviews of government insiders reveal. These contacts in spring 2016 — some from trusted intelligence sources, others from Hillary Clinton supporters — occurred well before FBI headquarters authorized an official counterintelligence investigation on July 31, 2016...

“The revelation of purposeful contact initiated by alleged confidential human sources prior to any FBI investigation is troublesome,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), an ally of President Trump and chairman of a House subcommittee that’s taking an increasingly aggressive oversight role in the scandal, told me. “This new information begs the questions: Who were the informants working for, who were they reporting to and why has the [Department of Justice] and FBI gone to such great lengths to hide these contacts?”...

... bureau rules ... forbid the FBI from directing a human source to target an American until a formally predicated investigative file is opened....

... According to documents and government interviews, one of the FBI’s most senior counterintelligence agents visited London the first week of May 2016. Congress never got the FBI to explain that trip — but, soon after it, one of the most consequential moments of the scandal occurred: On May 10, Australian diplomat Alexander Downer met in a London bar with Trump adviser George Papadopoulos, who boasted of knowing that Russia would release dirt on Clinton.

That contact was not immediately reported to U.S. intelligence.

By early June, a second overture to a Trump campaign adviser occurred in London. In a “Dear Carter” email, a Cambridge University graduate student invited Trump campaign adviser Carter Page to attend a popular July security conference in London.

http://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/390228-london-bridges-falling-d
own-curious-origins-of-fbis-trump-russia-probe?#_=_

More than "breaking FBI rules" - which this "purposeful contact" by an Australian informant represents - this leads to questions about WHY the investigation was started in the first place. WHAT INITIATED this "contact" between [channeler of illegal $25 million of Australian tax monies to the Clinton Foundation] Downer and Papadopoulos? Because, it seems, that this "contact" wasn't "just" a random barroom meeting, and it was initiated PRIOR TO the development of any "evidence" that Papadopoulos said anything about Russians. (And btw, what he DID say was that the Russians had harmful information about Hillary, probably referencing those 33,000 emails that she had so conveniently BleachBitted from her hard drive even after she was subpoenaed, NOT the DNC emails which appeared shortly afterwards on Wikileaks. It may have been mere supposition or hearsay on his part, not any special knowledge from contacts with "Russians".)

So if there is evidence farther back in time than what we've heard about ... knowledge of actual contacts between Papadopoulos and "Russians", for example, and not just passing on of what sounds like hearsay ("I heard" or "people told me") .... which initiated THIS particular "purposeful contact" with Trump campaign members, we should know it.

If NO evidence is brought forth to explain this contact, then we might think that is was purely political in nature. If evidence DOES exist, what it reveals is that people are surveilled without cause and without a warrant (FISA or otherwise) which brings up the topic of "fruit of the poisonous tree" nature of whatever evidence is subsequently developed (if any).

According to obamagolfcount.com Bobo had 306 Golf Trips in 95 months. Which would average 38.5 per year. Or about 53 in the 16 months since Trump took Office. Such a big difference.

Well... I honestly don't really give a shit who's playing golf. At the end of the day, Presidents are people too and until we have a robot president we can't expect that they're not going to blow off some steam. I'd rather Trump and Obama were doing this on the golf course than with hookers and blow.

What bothers me is the waste of taxpayer dollars. What do these trips actually cost. Where is the accounting for them.

I'll stand firm that I don't feel that Trump is legally or morally obligated to provide his tax returns to the public when the IRS knows fully what is in them already, but the people have a right to know what any politician's taxpayer funded expenses are, and not just the President's.

Does anybody know of a resource where one could find this information? Even better, a resource that shows not only current expenditures but those in the past as well?

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Anybody notice that Melania either travels with the President, or doesn't travel for the trip at all?
Compared to King and Queen Bobo and Moochelle demanding to travel in separate Air Force One birds to the same places at different hours of the day.
I cannot believe DJ & Milania take twice as many useless frivolous trips to go shopping as King & Queen #44.
No way he's spending more money than them, except in devalued dollars from Obamanomics.

Not my job.

If you're in the MSM and you're going to report something and you want people to start believing you again, you need to provide facts and citations. You need to provide actual names instead of "sources say".

You're reply doesn't make any sense in this context.

Actually, I think that it says the exact opposite of what you meant to say since "it doesn't hold true unless you're dealing with a moron" in this instance would mean that a moron would not require any proof or documentation of statements provided by reporters and the MSM in general, which is what you clearly are doing every day.
