Aducanumab.

Late-phase multi-center double-blind placebo-controlled study was halted by Biogen because of lack of efficacy, not because of safety concerns. Aducanumab targets the amyloid plaques which are one symptom of Alzheimer's. Another symptom is neurofibrillary tangles.

Some scientists have posited that the amyloid plaques aren't the cause of Alzheimer's symptoms, but are instead the brain's attempt to protect other cells by "walling off" affected neurons. There has been a debate about which to target, and even whether either of those brain changes are causative or merely a result of another process.

This will have a significant impact on an aging world, since Alzheimer's disease represents a huge health care cost.
