Meanwhile, some dildo bimbos cannot comprehend what Formal Wear is when defined as Formal Wear.
Yes, medals are part of the uniform, and the Marines do not hand out medals like candy, like the other services do.

Hubby and fam are military, he said it IS bad taste to wear a dress uniform to other's events unless they know. If the guy had nothing else to wear then he should have informed the bride. He was a +1 and not family. Bottom line, she asked for black tie and it was THEIR event. Respect goes both ways.

Dress Uniform IS the equivalent of Black Tie, Black Tie being the uniform equivalent for civilians. Service members do not haul around an extensive wardrobe inside their seabags - which contain everything they carry.

Color me unsurprised that you were wrong about this facet of etiquette as well. You probably drop your flag on the ground as well, just because everybody else does.

Even wikipedia managed to get this detail correct.
The Specified attire for Marines at Black Tie events is the Blue Dress uniform. The Class A is currently not authorized for Leave or Liberty, which would include full Medals and Ribbons (not optional or discretionary). As a non-military event, the Class B Blues would have been correct, which include all Ribbons of all Awards, not the draped Medals, and the Marksmanship Badge would have been optional. Normally, the C and D Class Blues are not allowed without specific authorization.
I was only authorized to wear the Class C during one Duty, for Recruiter Duty.
When I was in a wedding, I did not wear my Formal Uniform because the couple provided the specific formal wear which they had chosen for the event.

I'm shocked anyone would invite you ANYWHERE.

Just because you OWN a dress uniform does NOT give you carte blanche to wear it to other people's FORMAL events. He could have rented or borrowed, I'm sure any tux place would have been happy to help. She said he was hamming it up and people were asking for pics with HIM instead of the married couple, so no matter what he was wearing he was ATTENTION WHORING...AT SOMEONE ELSE'S WEDDING.

If he had acted with decorum instead of trying to cut loose in military attire they most likely would have said nothing.

Once again, they said he was acting inappropriately. I get that is a hard concept for you to understand.

Did you leave your brain up you bung again?
Do you have other sources beyond the story I linked?
1. It was "Black Tie Optional"
2. The story says the bride States he was "a complete gentleman" which you translate to "acting inappropriate"
3. The story says the bride states he "graciously allowed" others to take photos with him, which you translate to "hamming it up". We regularly get requests to take photos with civilians, which we are supposed to allow, for a number of reasons. This was not a requirement, but I cannot recall anybody denying such requests. Now that I think about it, I don't recall if Women Marines got as many such requests, or more or less - but I also don't recall any WMs denying requests. Normally these requests were only with Dress Blues Class A or B, sometimes in civvies with Marine motif.
4. Yes, many who are not in the Marine Corps are jealous, envious of the commitments, achievements and standards exemplified by Marines, and refer to all Marines as "attention whores". We get it, you lowlifes are nothing new. While you translate " gracious" and "acting a gentleman" as lacking decorum and cutting loose.
5. So you think he should take Annual Leave and round trip flights to get a fitting, a few weeks before the wedding, then the same for the wedding, for a Black Tie OPTIONAL event. While anybody else with an equivalent Black Tie uniform in their closet would have no objection from you to just wear what they already own.

You are batting a thousand at being wrong.

The article I read last week said black tie. Him wearing that when it said black tie optional is even WORSE.

She said he graciously allowed pics, but ALSO implied he was hamming it up, as she was trying to be nice.
Lifestyle

Here's the headline I just read
Bride kicked out wedding guest for wearing Marines uniform: 'It seemed like he was just trying to show off'

You don't know where the wedding was or where he had to go to get to it, you act like even wearing a nice shirt and a pair or pants is asking too much. It's not. If he had time to go to the wedding he had time to go to Walmart.

It doesn't really matter, you are going to keep making excuses for him.

And YES, wearing any uniform to an event when not required IS attention whoring. Surgeon or Military or whatever. Obviously in this case it wasn't appreciated.

I've also been around military enough to know, yeah they DO show off.

Also from that article

Another member of the military wrote, “Wearing formal military wear at formal civilian events is allowed per regulations (Army is AR 670-1, no clue for Marines), but you have to be a special kind of a****** to wear it to a non-military wedding without specific permission of the couple.

The reason for this is the same as wearing white to a wedding — this puts you in competition with the bride. He should have dressed in civilian wear, or at very least, checked with the couple getting married.”

Guess he and YOU are special kinds of assholes

I honestly can't think of a single less important topic than some Bridezilla getting her knickers in a twist over something this stupid.

I give that marriage 5 years tops.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Maybe I should have taken as premonition that a nearby article to the one I linked was a Mom ordering girls to stop wearing leggings, because they tempted her 4 sons with their lack of modesty.

This past Sunday I wished Marines Happy Birthday IRL, but forgot to here.

So, belated wishes.

Next year is the 245th Birthday, right after Trump's re-election.

All this past week I had really planned to post in this thread, on Thursday or even Wednesday night.

I've been looking for a truck to buy since June-ish. Suddenly I had a short opportunity to buy a truck for a good deal, and I did on 10 November.

So, I forgot to post here, plus other things, but I got myself a sweet Birthday present.

Belated Birthday, for the rest of you Marines - 247th.

Happy birthday, and Congrats on the new truck.

It's been so long since I've driven anything I'm going to need to take lessons when I get my car back.
