I thought Elizabeth Warren made a great case for doing so - stop thinking and hand wringing so much Dems, and do your job. Time to be agressive and uphold the constitution - give those GOP pinheads a taste of their own medicine and set the record for future presidents. No one is above the law - we're not a dictatorship. Time to make a stand and take action.

No prosecutor would indict if the case will go to a judge and jury who are relatives of the accused criminal. The judge and jury for Trump's trial will be Mitch McConnell and 53 Republican Senators. I know all of them, including Mitt Romney, would vote Trump to be innocent. Nancy Pelosi knows impeachment is a waste of time and it could actually do harm:

Absent public support for impeachment, and amid a strong economy, it would give the White House an opportunity to run the playbook Bill Clinton ran so successfully in the 1990s: Here’s Trump, focusing on economic growth, and there are the Democrats, focusing on their doomed vendetta against the president.

This is a strategy that would unite Republicans and split Democrats, and if Trump won reelection using it, then the harm to American democracy would be incalculable. Impeachment will backfire — strengthening Trump while weakening congressional Democrats’ ability to hold him accountable in the future. I was on that side originally, and believed in the solid political logic behind it. But the mostly gutless Dems always seem to outwit themselves and hem and haw, and ultimately find ways to DO NOTHING. That's their thing and it's not a good thing. They talk a lot and end up doing nothing. So they'll strategize and guess (and it is a guess, no matter how much you feel you know) and hope to play the odds and wait, and basically give him a pass. "You're guilty but we're not confident enough to uphold the law just yet. But watch out! We'll get you next time!" And they shift to hopefully winning the election. With... whom? So Trump wins, and he gets another 4 years and outlasts the 5 year statute of limitations on obstruction. Trump wins again. That's a lot of winning for that pos. Face it - both ways are guesses. One way is more principled. Time for Dems to shake off their weasilie past and skewer the fugger - at least put it down on the record.

That's because you guys are thinking like Democrats!
Trump will be prosecuted for other crimes for sure - the Southern District of New York for one - they seem to have a list and a well deserved vendetta against Dump.
As for now, either way is a best guess situation. The only thing you can really know and count on for sure, is that impeachment is there for this exact reason. Mueller's report is a trail of clues and instructions. Impeachment would also mean that if it was successful, some members of the GOP would have to acknowledge the need for it and that it was justified. That would signify a big change from the partisan gridlock we have now.
I'd also like to see him dragged over the coals on live tv. Have you seen any of his tv testimony from the past? I don't recall what it was for, but he looked even more like an old fool. That could lose him a boat load of votes. Giving him and the GOP more time to wiggle out of the sh*t he does in hopes of something better later, gets real old.

I noticed that there were no Impeachments between 1936 and 1986, but since then 6 people have been Impeached, 5 of them Democrat and the sole Republican by Dem House. Dem Houses Impeached each time, except Clinton.

Thanks for the article. I'm well aware of the math. I know going in %-wise, it's probably a lost cause. But... I still feel that even if the only benefit is in retrospect, "at least we took a stand and had the b@lls to take him to task - because it's what we're suppose to do and not necessarily the politically expedient thing to do - we can always be inspired by that." Small victory, but otherwise? I don't have any faith in the voting public or the sanctity of the voting booth. I imagine RUSSIA! will only be emboldened by the removal of sanctions (the quo) and how Dump has removed much of the oversight on election intrusion. Another term only goes to solidify Dump/Putin alliance. And don't take any solace over "he can only get one more term." It won't be him, but he'll find some kind of desciple and we'll have Dump II. They - the GOP and the Dump whores - are solidifying their grasp on the small stuff, changing out judges, changing laws, changing regulations (how are those robocalls working for you? Did you notice that home equity lines of credit have just doubled? You can dig yourself into twice as much debt as ever. Talk about having control over people's lives). Of course, it will take a lot of time. Just slow enough that most people won't notice or care because they never cared.

I just realized how little energy I have left to go tilting at windmills.
I am too old for this shit...

I dunno. I look around and see bombings and shootings and people bankrupted by basic medical care and all the crap.... and I don't think picking battles purely for the edification of history and benefit of a dubious future is worth that much. If we evolve then people of the future are going to look on us poorly anyways. If we don't then nothing we do matters much in the long run either. When you have limited energy like I do, you learn to just put it into things that matter.

There is just so much to fix here. Trump is something that can't be. You can't ever convince someone with a personality disorder that there is something amiss because they always will believe they are awesome and will rationalize away anything else you say.

I'm not sure anything can be done about Russia until there's a Dem or other Prez who is willing to recognize the threat.

6ix, you understood nothing. Actually what the Report said was that Mueller is operating under rules that forbid him from indicting the President with a crime. That was widely known in May of 2018:

Translation: Trump is guilty as hell, but I cannot say that because of the rules and Attorney General Barr.

Like I said, there ARE other battles coming. I keep seeing rumors that he has a couple hundred lawsuits just waiting for him to step out of office. Unfortunately, it means seeing that horrid face in the news for a long time to come...

Her point is that it would never happen. Even Second knows that and has said it quite a bit in this thread and in others.

I happen to agree with her. The time to impeach is now. After two years of this shit show, not only will Trump be re-elected, but I'd predict that the house swings back the other way and they won't have the opportunity then.

Well, I'm not offering sarcastic advice, I think the Dems should go balls to the wall on impeachment. Take it as far as they can, dig into every last nook and cranny, ferret out every detail. No one can trust the outcome of the next presidential election. Now is the time for impeachment.

Many Democratic Party leaders continue to say they would prefer to wait for the next election, to let the voters oust President Donald Trump in 2020.

Why would anyone believe that Trump would allow himself to be fired by American voters? What evidence is there over the past three years, or the course of his professional career, that suggests he would play by the rules?

Why would anyone who has read the Mueller report, or Trump’s tweets, or listened to the president’s former personal lawyer and co-workers, believe he would voluntarily step aside following an election to face possible criminal prosecution in federal and state courts?

How can anyone state without misgivings that Trump would not subvert the election process to protect his son, daughter and son-in-law?

Democrats, like much of America, seem to minimize the impact of Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election in 2016. But the evidence is abundant that it was a substantial effort and that the Russians are poised once again to interfere in the 2020 U.S. election campaign.

She has called for a Watergate-type public investigation by Congress, whereby public hearings will present Mueller's findings, but also fill in the gaps of the road map to impeachment. Make these motherfuckers sweat on the witness stand, and it will show the American public
what Mueller laid out in his report.

But for the DOJ edict of not indicting a sitting president, that orange ugly motherfucker would be wearing an orange jumpsuit to match his skin.

Captain, I agree with you 1000%. This sham cannot stand, they must impeach regardless whether he wins re-election or not. This will put a stamp on him that will be hard to shake. History will show his total lack of respect for the Rule of Law and for the office he holds.

I was on that side originally, and believed in the solid political logic behind it. But the mostly gutless Dems always seem to outwit themselves and hem and haw, and ultimately find ways to DO NOTHING. That's their thing and it's not a good thing. They talk a lot and end up doing nothing. So they'll strategize and guess (and it is a guess, no matter how much you feel you know) and hope to play the odds and wait, and basically give him a pass. "You're guilty but we're not confident enough to uphold the law just yet. But watch out! We'll get you next time!" And they shift to hopefully winning the election. With... whom? So Trump wins, and he gets another 4 years and outlasts the 5 year statute of limitations on obstruction. Trump wins again. That's a lot of winning for that pos. Face it - both ways are guesses. One way is more principled. Time for Dems to shake off their weasilie past and skewer the fugger - at least put it down on the record.

Well... to be fair, who in the world really knows how many people actually want impeachment today vs August of 2018? I'm sure both surveys were only around 1,200 people and it would be very easy to manipulate the data one way or another when you're only sampling such a small portion of the American public.

What has changed, for sure, since August of 2018 is the narrative.

I'm not sure where it's heading, but my guess is that the Democrats know that Trump is going to be in for 6 more years and they're hoping that something terrible happens to the economy before his second term is up.
