No, they are so hyperfocused on Trump that for them it's all Trump, all the time. Didn't watch or listen, but got this review today

Quote:

Jonathan Turley,

CNN has long been criticized for what many view as overtly hostile coverage of Sen. Bernie Sanders that goes back to the 2016 election where the CNN openly seemed to favor Hillary Clinton in her bid for the nomination.

Yet, even for the most hardened critics of the network, yesterday’s debate in Des Moines was breathtaking in its unrelentingly negative questions of Sanders followed up relative softballs to others like Sen. Amy Klobuchar. However the lowest moment of this or any debate this year occurred when CNN reporter Abby Phillips made Sanders repeat his outright denial of the allegation by Elizabeth Warren that he told her that no woman could be president and then immediately stated that Sanders did make the comment in her next question to Warren. In watching with a room filled with people who are not affiliated with Sanders, Phillips’ statement led to loud gasps and Sanders himself seemed dumbfounded on stage by the bias shown by the CNN reporter. Later, Warren pointedly refused to shake the hand of Sanders.

It's turned into a shit-show. Everyone is focusing on identity politics and tribalism and nobody is coming up with any real solutions to our problems (except Gabbard, but she's been frozen out).

More interesting was Trump last night. He is so fucked up in the head, which is what his voters love: By almost any standard, President Donald Trump’s rally on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee was a bizarre affair. The president went on a lengthy tirade about lightbulbs, toilets, and showers; touted war crimes; joked about a former president being in hell; and said he’d like to see one of his domestic political foes locked up.

I tried to capture some of the speech’s disconcerting oddness in my write-up of the event. In many ways, the remarks the president made were typical of him. And that provides the media with a challenge: Describing Trump as he really is can make it seem as if a report is “anti-Trump” and that the reporter is trying to make the president look foolish.

But for media outlets that view themselves as above taking sides, attempts to provide a sober, “balanced” look at presidential speeches often end up normalizing things that are decidedly not normal.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I recorded the debate, but didn't watch it.

OF COURSE CNN would be openly hostile to Sanders! He nearly unseated Hillary-the-pervert in 2016, despite all the serious ethical lapses of the DNC and Hillary-the-pervert's campaign to shoehorn her in.

And he's been recently coming up in the polls, while Warren has taken a long-term dip from a high of 25% to about 15%. THEY HAVE TO STOP HIM!

BTW, this whole kerfuffle about "she said he said" ... Granted Warren may be hearing real, yet subtle, subtext in somebody's words. And there is still real discrimination against women rising to positions of power in the US. But ... she's made the claim of being discriminated against because of being a women (and pregnant, therefore, she was let go ...) that seems to be without merit. She may also be hearing things, and therefore claiming things, that simply don't exist when and where she claims they do.

I'll be real interested in watching the actual debate and comparing it to the coverage. Because just like the Ukraine-gate testimony*, what gets reported often doesn't remotely resemble what happened.

(* Where a critical and salient point was completely ignored by the media in its stampede to an acceptable narrative: "It’s also important to note that US security assistance is conditioned to countries around the world and that USAID, including aid to Ukraine, has been temporarily paused in the past for various reasons and even for no reason at all. Ambassador Volker testified the 55 day pause on security assistance did not strike him as uncommon and that the pause was not significant. Dr. Hill and state department official, Catherine Croft both testified that security assistance to Ukraine specifically had been temporarily paused in the past.")

1kiki, the GAO said you are full of bullshit:

GAO concludes Trump administration broke law by withholding Ukraine aid

The Government Accountability Office says the Trump administration broke the law when it withheld US security aid to Ukraine last year that had been appropriated by Congress -- an issue at the center of the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

In a decision issued Thursday, the GAO said that the White House budget office violated the Impoundment Control Act, which says that funds appropriated by Congress cannot be withheld by the White House.

"Faithful execution of the law does not permit the President to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law. OMB withheld funds for a policy reason, which is not permitted under the Impoundment Control Act (ICA). The withholding was not a programmatic delay. Therefore, we conclude that OMB violated the ICA," the GAO said. www.gao.gov/assets/710/703909.pdf

I don't know about V-E Day, but the GAO used strong language to describe what Trump did during Ukrainegate and after, during the coverup:

OMB and State have failed, as of yet, to provide the information we need to fulfill our duties under the ICA regarding potential impoundments of FMF funds. We will continue to pursue this matter and will provide our decision to the Congress after we have received the necessary information.

We consider a reluctance to provide a fulsome response to have constitutional significance. GAO’s role under the ICA—to provide information and legal analysis to Congress as it performs oversight of executive activity—is essential to ensuring respect for and allegiance to Congress’ constitutional power of the purse. All federal officials and employees take an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution and its core tenets, including the congressional power of the purse. We trust that State and OMB will provide the information needed.

Despite what you think, Signym, the Democratic candidates are interchangeable. Talk all you want, but what you are doing is gossiping about which racehorse is faster. They are all racehorses and any of them will get you across the finish line. On the other hand, Trump is an out-of-control monster, even by Republican standards, and he might run the race in the wrong direction. If he was at the racetrack, he might eat the rider, he might eat the crowd watching the race, he might destroy the racetrack itself.

Trump is a "monster" despite not having gotten us into YET ANOTHER WAR? Nobody ... not GWB, and not Saint Obama, can make that claim. By this time in GWB's first term in office, we were in TWO wars. By this time in Obama's first term, he had destroyed Libya.

You people are mesmerized by "narrative". M$M narrative, Obama's narrative, GWB's narrative, Trump's narrative ... you can't seem to get past what people "say" for public consumption versus what they do. Obama destroyed Libya, Yemen (thru secret drone program) and Sudan, and tried to destroy Ukraine and Syria. But he sure talked good!!

So, who's the monster?

So, to turn the discusison back to the Democratic candidates...basically, what you're saying is that, as voters, we really don't have much choice. We can vote for Tweedledum or Tweedledee but the finish line always stays in the same place.

What if I don't like where this race is heading? The only candidate who talks about real change is Tulsi Gabbard, and - not surprisingly - she's being actively frozen out by the DNC. Because the DNC really doesn't want change - they're all happy with endless wars and deficit spending and kowtowing to the transnational elite. So if you say that they're all the same, then just put 'em all in a bag and dump them in the river, politically-speaking.

Funny - do a search on anything "Tulsi Gabbard" + blank (I was searching for "odds to win election" jsyk), and as soon as you've typed her name the top search suggestion is "photos in bikini" Ha! So what does that tell you about how well she's thought of as a presidential hopeful? That's her most searched on phrase and obviously, the most important attribute at least for male voters. Maybe you also want a president who looks good in a bikini?

Plus - with her current poll numbers at 1.8% to get the nomination, why would the DNC put their money and efforts behind someone without a chance in hell of winning?

That's pretty bone dry stupid, SIG.

Lol - Kookie thinks there just one search engine - how quaint.

WRONG in so many ways...

As I said, if you type her name in the search engines fills in options after that based on their popularity:

"as soon as you've typed her name the top search suggestion is "photos in bikini"

You are wrong. One Democrat is no better than the other. Well, Biden and Warren are far too old and Bernie may die at any second from heart attack so your Vice-Presidential choice had better be solid.

The big problem with the Federal government, designed into the Constitution and the rules of the Senate, is Congress. If you don't have at least 60 Senators who all agree with each other, the Federal Government will malfunction very badly (as it has for centuries) and it does not matter what kind of paragon of virtue is the President.

Some President of pretty ordinary abilities, such as FDR, can be extraordinarily effective if he has a super-majority in Congress. If the President doesn't have a super-majority, things will go wrong. They go even wronger when you've got an idiot like Bush II. If you tracked the 2nd Iraq War, you can see how badly a stupid man can perform a job. Compare it to the 1st Iraq War. One thing is obvious: Bush I was 10 times smarter than Bush II and it showed with how they ran their War on the same country. Bush II could not understand the limitations of an American Army. Bush I did understand.

There was not a dime's worth of difference in political belief between Bush I and II, but there was a world of difference in brain damage from drinking and drugging. And by the way, Trump has been extremely brain damaged for decades.

1kiki, you are full of bullshit. President Herbert Hoover created FDR's super-majority. If Hoover and the GOP controlled Senate had NOT been such a mob of complete ideological ninnies about how the American economy actually works, there never would have been a super-majority of Democrats in the Senate for FDR. We can be thankful that the GOP screwed up so badly that the GOP didn't win back control of the Senate until 1946. In the 1946 United States Senate elections, the Democrats lost control and the Federal Government started malfunctioning, again, because nobody was in charge since nobody had a super-majority.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1946_United_States_Senate_elections

Winning WWII and ending the Great Depression was not enough to keep people voting for Democrats. The voters wanted more (like a purge of Commies, according to Red-baiting Senator Joe McCarthy) and the GOP promised more, but did not deliver.

In 1950, Congress passed the McCarran Internal Security Act, which required that all “subversives” in the United States submit to government supervision. (President Truman vetoed the Act—he said it “would make a mockery of our Bill of Rights”—but a Congressional majority overrode his veto.)

FDR did NOT have a super-majority in Congress in 1932. And his biggest opposition to the New Deal was from senate democrats, who were afraid it was too communistic. But after 2 years of stumping for the New Deal, more democrats were voted in, and those that had been reluctant became enthusiastic.

FDR created his own super-majority.

btw I've posted this all twice before with extensive links. Feel free to look those posts up.

Jeez, SECONDRATE, you sound unhinged. You can't figure out if the target of your rage is Texas Republicans, or Republicans, or Congress, or Trump, or Americans in general, or the Constitution! He's not unhinged. He just has zero moral compass or any core beliefs from which his other beliefs are derived. He wanders aimlessly from thread to thread, changing his belief to fit whatever narrative of whatever argument he's getting into that second, completely disregarding what he's said not only in the distant past, but 15 minutes ago.

Oh wait... "unhinged" kind of perfectly sums that up, doesn't it?

Communist curmudgeon Bernie Sanders is having his moment, threatening to actually win some of the early primaries and maybe even the nomination. This is bad, at least for the Democrats, since the idea of a weird crusty admitted socialist as their candidate is problematic – the problem being Americans aren’t insanely stupid enough to elect this guy president.

We hope.

Also note that I am excluding Vermont, New York and California from that statement, if you have somehow confused those mutant provinces with America.

But with Bernie rising in the polls, and his poisonous ideology gathering steam among the Democrat base, can we really laugh off this Soviet Union-loving crank?

Gropey Joe is collapsing, and we still have not seen the full effect of what happens when America gets a load of his loser son, the $50,000 a month stripper impregnator. Once Joe takes his first real body blow, he’s going down.

Heap Big Hack is the one trying to get as close to Sanders as she can without going full socialist – never go full socialist – but she’s flailing. Recently she decried our shameful failure to respond to America’s greatest crisis, that boy criminals pretending to be girl criminals still have to go to boy jails instead of girl jails. There’s no real room in the race for this forked-tongue phony. The kind of people who subscribe to her nonsense prefer the full-bore socialism of Sanders to Warren’s paleface imitation.

Remember Klobucharmania? Me neither. Amy is just in it to grab second place. She’s the sensible shoe of the veepstakes.

And there’s Pete Buttigieg, the Hero of Kandahar, the Moses of the Midwest. That pretentious little doofus. Never has someone had so much self-esteem and so little reason for it. Let’s put it this way – if the Democrat primary was Hogan’s Heroes, Pete Buttigieg would assume he was Bob Crane but he would really be Larry Hovis.

We could hope that the nomination of Bernie would lead the Democrats to a massive electoral repudiation that would spark a long-overdue re-think of the Democrat Party’s drift to the far left. That seems the most likely result. But imagine if Sanders won. If you are one of the two nominees, you have a shot at it, as Donald Trump proved. And keep in mind you that don’t have to win to prevail down the road. In 1964, Barry Goldwater got creamed; in 1980, his ideological protégé Ronald Reagan won and conservatism was changed forever, despite the best efforts of those pathetic losers writing for whatever the Bulwark is.

So, Sanders could win. Now it gets really scary. Him with executive power. Shiver. Think of his administration, a motley collection of weirdos, trustafarians, hipsters, professors, and beret-topped activists. Look at that psycho from Iowa Project Veritas exposed. It would be a socialist Freaknik.

Bullshit on your "FDR created his own super-majority." That is the Superman theory of how the Federal Government works. But it is actually external events, not clever and magical words from one guy's mouth, as he campaigns for the first time to be President, that convince voters to get rid of the fools/liars/thieves/incompetents who are in charge in Congress and the White House.

You might not be aware that the Senators, unlike the Representatives, don't all face an election at the same time. There is no way to sweep out all the rotten Senators in one election, no matter who is President. It takes 3 elections spread out over years. There is always some stubborn fool of a Senator that the voters cannot get rid of immediately. Even Superman for President can't fix that. Then there are the infamous "Checks and Balances" which are suppose to be the glory of the Constitution but actually have caused gridlock over and over again for literally centuries. Superman for President can't fix that.

And Superman for President can't fix the Supreme Court. Superman has to wait for them to die of natural causes. None of the justices have to obey the words of Superman. Nor do the justices care about external events that voters worry about. Superman President can't make the justices care.

It would be "funny" because I don't believe Trump has the self-control to NOT be at the very center of attention in the biggest event in TV HISTORY:

First Trump-Clinton debate is the most-watched debate of all time
09/27/2016 01:59 PM EDT

The first general election debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump averaged 84 million viewers across 13 channels, according to data from Nielsen, making it the most watched presidential debate in modern history.

Until last night, the most-watched debate in history was the 1980 debate between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. That debate averaged just over 80 million viewers. With a few networks still to be counted by Nielsen, and the 80 million figure not including anyone who watched online, last night's debate will end up with more people watching than any prior presidential debate. In 2012, the first debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama averaged 70 million viewers. In 2008, the first debate between John McCain and Obama averaged 53 million viewers.

On cable news, Fox News led the way with more than 11 million viewers. NBC led the broadcast networks with more than 18 million people tuning in.

Pretty sure you are just acting dumb (hope so!) but to embarrass you further...

"Tulsi Gabbard" appears at the top because it's what I typed in. Same for you assuming you were there when you typed it.

The first search suggestion is the next line, "tulsi gabbard photos in bikini"

So does that clear up for you how search engines work? Let me know if you need more help! Happy to oblige - we'll all be seniors some day - like to think I'm paying it forward.

Assuming you understand... do you see that most popular search suggestion after just searching her name, is people trying to gop at her body, right? How does that make you feel as a woman? You and SIG try and paint her as a viable candidate and yet the most popular search suggestion for after her name is about her looks? Just another piece of meat. You girls must be proud of how far you've come!

"I am woman hear me roar... *cough* *hack*..."

And still no answer from you or Signoramous why the DNC should support someone with a 1.8% in the polls as their candidate.

Well, no answer other than the obvious "we're just here to agitate."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Some President of pretty ordinary abilities, such as FDR, can be extraordinarily effective if he has a super-majority " drums up a super-majority between the presidential elections that voted him in and the midterms, by vigorously and publicly stumping for popular programs.

1932 Presidential election year
1932 senate results
59D 36R (not a supermajority)

1934 off-year midterms
1934 senate results
69D 25R (a supermajority)

FDR did NOT have a super-majority in Congress in 1932. And his biggest opposition to the New Deal was from senate democrats, who were afraid it was too communistic. But after 2 years of stumping for the New Deal, more democrats were voted in, and those that had been reluctant became enthusiastic.

I see you are stuck to your Superman theory of how to fix the Federal government: If only the right President, a Superman, is elected he will lead the country out of all its problems -- fixing the Senate, the Supreme Court, the gridlock in Congress to finding solutions to the two and a half century long problems in America that were designed by the writers of the Constitution. You might just as well call for God to solve all our problems. I, on the other hand, think that problems will never get fixed until those problems (such as the Great Depression or Pearl Harbor) force the majority of the population to either recognize the problem and stop acting and voting like idiots, or else die. There will never be a Superman/President, God won't save the country, the majority will have to save it, or else they are dead if their lives depends on the Federal government operating as it was designed by Jefferson, Adams, and James Madison. I'm sure if those three were here today they could fix the Constitution with complete rewrite. I'm sure Mitch McConnell can't even tie his own shoelaces. He is not capable of fixing anything.

A lot of thought by a lot of people has gone into who do people vote for, and why. It's something I wondered about, after seeing dubya become president twice (well, the first time was a gimme by the Supreme Court on the recount, and dubya did lose the popular vote as well).

After reading some things, I've come to the conclusion many people don't blindly vote for a generic D or R cutout. Not just ANY D or R will do. And they don't vote for platforms, or programs. They vote for the particular individual they feel better about. And that involves not just what the candidate says, but how they come across. What are their 'values'?

Well, maybe decades of advertising with phony-sincere folksy-wise shills have finally left a permanent divot (along with decades of propaganda for news and a news cycle that pretends something that happened 1 week ago is all over).

But that's what the debates seem to be all about. Everyone gets trotted around the ring. People decide who they're more 'comfortable' with.
