So says Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander. He believes Donald Trump acted improperly and crossed a line in the Ukraine scandal but said the President's actions are "a long way from treason, bribery, high crimes and misdemeanors. I think he shouldn't have done it. I think it was wrong. Inappropriate was the way I'd say -- improper, crossing the line. And then the only question left is who decides what to do about that." Trump only needs 34 Senators to vote to let him run free so he can do it again.

As per your usual, Signym, you understand nothing. Rethugs start ADMITTING Trump SHOULD BE IMPEACHED, too cowardly to follow LAWS. Having heard some evidence, Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander decided there was not sufficient for him to vote to remove Trump. For the Senator, Trump's crime was not bad enough to give him the death penalty, throwing Trump's fat ass out the window. Sen. Lamar Alexander did not want Trump's blood on his hands since Alexander's voters back in Tennessee might object. Alexander said Trump did wrong, but not wrong enough for the Senate to lynch Trump. The Constitution does not give the Senate the power to only slightly punish Trump, like fine him $1,000,000, dock Trump's salary, or ground him for a month by taking away Air Force One.

Signym, you are an idiot who writes too much. Trump obviously was impeached, you idiot. If it was illegal, Mitch McConnell would NOT have called the Senate into session to listen to the House prosecutors' impeachment charges. The House of Representatives can NOT force the Senate to illegally hold a trial for Trump. The only legal question is what will be Trump's punishment. The only punishment the Constitution allows is the death penalty for Trump -- removal from office. The Senate cannot fine Trump. They cannot jail him. They cannot take away his airplane. They can't even make him work at least 40 hours per week as a punishment. It is either death or nothing for Trump. I can see why GOP Senators would not vote for Trump's death, since it means the Senator's death with voters back home.

So, if the majority of Senators don't want to be voted out of office for removing Trump --- that means the majority of people in the majority of states represented by the majority of senators are going to reelect Trump? Isn't that the conclusion?

And if democrats don't do anything different, how are they any better?

Yes, he was charged with a crime. That's what impeachment is - the bringing of charges.
Quote:

If it was illegal, Mitch McConnell would NOT have called the Senate into session to listen to the House prosecutors' impeachment charges.
Starting to veer off the road here.
Quote:

The House of Representatives can NOT force the Senate to illegally hold a trial for Trump.
The bringing of charges might or might not be illegal, but isn't that determination part of what a trial is all about?
Quote:

The only legal question is what will be Trump's punishment.
Well, there you are, nose down in a field in a gully. Somehow you flew over the entire TRIAL concept + GUILTY verdict on your way to punishment.
You have a really poor grasp of the American justice concept. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Trial + guilty BEFORE punishment.
Are you sure you're American?
Quote:

Yes, according to you there's no trial step, no guilty verdict, just - punishment.
Quote:

Which means - you think Trump will be reelected by a majority in a majority of states.

No. GOP Senators won't vote for Trump's death, his removal from office, because all GOP voters would be deeply angry at the Senator for killing Trump for a minor infraction. GOP Senators also don't want non-GOP voters, the addle-brained "Independent" voter, from being deeply angry at the Senator for refusing to even think that Trump committed a crime. So what is a GOP Senator to do to please both GOP voters and Independents? Vote to acquit, but also obfuscate about Trump's crime to keep the Independents more or less convinced their Senator might have voted to execute Trump if the crime had been a little more serious. If the Senator can keep both kinds of voters calm, and keep Trump from attacking the Senator, the Senator gets reelected. As for Trump, his reelection is his problem, not the Senator's.

In a normal trial, the jury need not worry about what the defendant who do to them if he goes free. A jury of GOP Senators must worry about what defendant Trump will do them. The GOP Senators have to be very circumspect about what they say around Trump's crimes. Democratic Senators don't have that worry because Trump has already declared himself their natural enemy.

You got nothing. Democratic voters know that their GOP Senators, in Texas, are worthless and won't vote for them. "Independent" voters don't share that view. That is why Texas Senators blow clouds of smoke out of their mouths about Trump's impeachment, trying to get the Independent voters to believe the GOP Senators weighed the evidence, not ignored it. If they convince the "Independent" voter that the GOP Senator is really, but secretly, an Independent at heart rather than an obvious GOP hack that always does what Trump wants, the Senator gets reelected.

The only crime here was Hunter being used a payola as a means to get the ear of the VP , who was in charge of US policy for Ukraine for the administration.

Running for President can't be used as a shield against corruption. In fact, it can be argued that the ONLY reason Joe is running is as a ruse to help cover up for Hunter's actions as well as the prior admins ( including the long list of establishment types who have close ties to Burisma ) Like Mitt.

President Donald Trump and his Republican allies focused on exacting payback against his political opponents Thursday after his acquittal in his Senate impeachment trial, signaling that the conflict that has consumed Washington for months may only escalate rather than recede.

Choosing retaliation over reconciliation, Trump lashed out at Democrats and the one Republican senator who voted for conviction. He turned a prayer breakfast into a launching pad for political attacks and then staged a long, rambling venting session at the White House where he denounced “evil” and “crooked” lawmakers and the “top scum” at the FBI for trying to take him down.

Trump’s team indicated that his desire to turn the tables on his foes may go beyond just tough language. The White House press secretary declared that Democrats “should pay for” impeaching the president, and the Trump administration worked to facilitate a Senate Republican investigation of Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, the goal of Trump that was at the heart of his impeachment.

“It was evil,” Trump said of the investigations that led to his Senate trial in an hourlong stream-of-consciousness address to supporters in the East Room of the White House, tossing aside the more calibrated text prepared by his staff.

Trump’s vituperative performance Thursday was the diametrical opposite of how President Bill Clinton responded to his own acquittal after a Senate impeachment trial in 1999. On the day he was cleared of charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, Clinton appeared alone in the Rose Garden, said he was “profoundly sorry” and called for “reconciliation and renewal.”

Oh. OK. I see what's happening. Now that this didn't go the way Democrats wanted but it instead went the way everyone knew from the start it was going to go, Trump should just sit back and do nothing. Got it.

Clinton was caught lying about sticking cigars up his intern's ass and shooting his wad on her dress.

Democrats have been saying for over three years straight that they would impeach Trump and have made up a million different fake news stories to try to do that. Then when they decided on one that was based somewhat in reality, there was nothing impeachable about the incident. All the while he was being attacked non-stop every single day for 1,000 days straight by the media and the rabid leftist Twitterati.

A simple "I'm sorry" isn't going to suffice here. Especially when he isn't sorry, and he's got nothing to be sorry about.

Lev Parnas says he has plenty more dirt to reveal — and it’s not all moot now that President Donald Trump has been acquitted by the Senate on impeachment charges.

The estranged onetime associate of Rudy Giuliani boasts he’s a “prolific collector of photos and videos” and says he hasn’t destroyed any of the images from their efforts to smear former Vice President Joe Biden.

“Mr. Parnas has not destroyed any. Rather, he has preserved them,” Joseph Bondy, a lawyer for Parnas, told CNN. “The universe of subject matter is yet to be publicly revealed but is of interest in matters well beyond the impeachment inquiry.”

Parnas is facing federal campaign finance charges stemming from his dirty tricks campaign with Giuliani to dig up damaging information on Biden and to bolster other Trump-friendly conspiracy theories in Ukraine.

He was busted along with Igor Fruman, another Giuliani associate, last fall as they tried to flee to Europe with one-way plane tickets.

He has since flipped on Giuliani and Trump and is hoping to get a deal from prosecutors in exchange for spilling the beans. Giuliani is also facing criminal investigation into his tangled business and political affairs.

Vindman himself won’t actually be hurt too much: he’ll return to the Pentagon a little earlier than planned, and in a few months he’s going off to war college. But his twin brother was also fired, even though he had nothing to do with the Ukraine affair. And Gordon Sondland is gone too, for refusing to perjure himself to save Trump’s bacon.

But Trump himself wouldn’t understand why anyone is upset about this. He can hardly be expected to trust people who betrayed him. Right? And when Vindman was let go, his brother would probably harbor a grudge too. He had to make a clean sweep.

And here’s the key to all this: many of the kind of people who voted for Trump agree completely. Firing these people isn’t outrageous, it’s just common sense.

To Trump’s base, this is the way any strong leader acts. I think it’s outrageous. They think it's nuts to be any other way. It is clear from thousands of lawsuits, Trump screws over people all the time. His base also can be screwed once he doesn't need them. Say, after his final election.

Even Chris Matthews is now admitting that Hunter's involvement w/ a gas company in Ukraine, where daddy's job as VP was to oversee US policy was suspect at best, shady ( corrupt ) as hell at worst.

What about Obama's base?

Yanno, the ones who were fine with Obama firing the entire cabinet as the first thing he did when he was in office? How is that warranted? That wasn't even retribution. Unless maybe you consider that a black man's retribution on America, possibly?

That was probably just a front though, because he was doing Valerie "Planet of the Apes" Jarrett's bidding at the time. A Communist, raised by Communists. Let's just say that JFK would not have been a fan of Valerie. Likely not too much of a fan of Obama either.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Not true. Twin Vindman's job put him in a position to be able to review ... AND LEAK ... Bolt-on's pre-publication draft. SOMEbody has to review those manuscripts to make sure that classified info doesn't make it onto the bookshelves, and that was twin Vindman's job. Now, I don't know for sure whether he was the one who reviewed (and leaked) Bolt-on's manuscript, but I presume the WH knows who was given than particular assignment, and responded accordingly.

Sondland? What did he testify to? Nothing important, as far as I can tell. But he sure tried to stab Trump in the back. If I had an employee who did that to me and I had the power to hire and fire, they'd be out on their ass right quick.

Yep! You seem to have a glimmer of understanding!

I just explained twin Vindman's probable role in the impeachment. Your argument falls flat on its face.

Because it's just common sense. Everyone who "testified" against Trump had NO ACTUAL FIRSTHAND KNOWLEDGE, but that didn't stop them from spreading gossip before Congress. Would YOU want someone that weasely and biased to be working "for" (against) you? Let's say you had someone who was stealing from you, or claiming hours worked that they didn't, or mishandling your tools or your property, and lying about it. Or worse, they hated your politics and prepared your taxes with a little bomb hidden in those papers. Or spread malicious rumors about you to the local sheriff, and he was constantly on your property "checking up" on things. Would you continue to give them a paycheck?

You have a peculiar sense of "outrageous" considering that you fired people for less.

Yanno, I read your post without checking who it was posted under, and it sounded just like TWITCHY. You sure you're not her sock puppet?

Neither of them were fired.

They were reassigned.

Since they're Democrats in 2020, reassignment might just mean that they're the Vindman Sisters now. Who's to say.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Hey here Wishy - speaking of being brainwashed - do you have any quotes of more than one republican (you specified plural) saying Trump should be impeached? Using the actual word impeached ...

Quotes and links hon, or this may be just another confabulation on your part. Or maybe you're just brainwashed into believe things are true that aren't.

Hey, WISHY, how about that conversation that Signy and I never had? Yanno, the one only you saw?

Belief is for wimps and mental midgets!

If you listen to the Legacy Media, you'd think that Trump endorsements haven't been going well.

In reality 9 out of 10 of them come out on top. But you rarely hear about those.

Her middle name is Devi, huh?

If I were as unscrupulous as say... Rachel Maddow, I might say that if you took the "l" from Kamala and put it at the end of her middle name than you have all the proof you need that Kamala Harris is Satan.

Man... Rachel's viewership isn't the bottom of the barrel. It's the mold underneath the barrel.
