So it's safe to say that the industry most affected by the virus is the entertainment industry. Studios are shutting down, movie theaters will be empty, Broadway is shutting down, music and film festivals are canceled and Disneyland and World are closing until further notice. Day and late night talk shows are on hiatus also, all sporting events are on hiatus. Meanwhile I have to be at work at 6 a.m. Monday, I stopped off at Walmart and was able to buy butt wipe...BUT ALL THE SPAM WAS SOLD OUT!! Now I'm pissed, I love SPAM.

About the rich people getting a temporary layoff.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Youtube, AppleTV (sucks)... they better have a buttload of extra bandwidth available because they are going to get crushed in the weeks/months ahead.

Sh*t, Internet providers in general better unpack some extra bandwidth pronto with all of the schools going to online classes and businesses going to home work. Time to buy stock in Time Warner.

I said that to hubbs a month ago. If there could be one good thing to come out of this, maybe upgrading our ISP's could be it.

I ain't holding my breath, though.

Maybe it can be a good thing, less division politik

The industry will come back stronger, hopefully reborn, smaller indie American studios and away from the crap that surrounds hollyweird.

Somehow NASCAR seems to be the smartest of all of them here... Let's give it a few weeks than wait and see.

No sense in cancelling an entire season.

BTW... anybody know if those mega-millions contracts to our "beloved" professional athletes still get paid out while they sit on their ass and watch Netflix all year long?

Are you kidding me, stupid?

When I was a kid, going to games was affordable. That was before Jose Canseco became the first athlete to make a Million bucks in a year. You could go to a Cubs or Sox game and sit in the bleachers for less than $5.

Fastforward to 2020 and the league minimum in Professional Baseball is $50,000 more than the U.S. Presidential Salary.

Now, most families can't afford to go to most games, and even if they do, they can't afford to buy hot dogs or pop while they're there.

If these people get paid to sit around all year and there is zero revenue generated by them filling stands and selling lucrative broadcasting contracts, that cost is further going to be passed along to the consumers and we're going to get to the point where literally only the 1%ers will be able to afford going to see any games live.

Try to at least pretend like you have a working brain cell or two in that meth addled box of rocks.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

It's only been released for 11 days, and it's already the 9th highest grossing Marvel movie, right behind Captain Marvel's entire $1,128,274,794 worldwide gross by only about $45k. It probably got that last night.

Good for Marvel. Good for Sony. Bad for Disney.

ETA: I just checked, and it's doing that well in 11 days without even being released in China.

https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Spider-Man-No-Way-Home-(2021)#tab=in

Here's what the top 8 Marvel movies made in China:

1. Avengers: End Game / $629 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Avengers-Endgame-(2019)#tab=internat
ional

2. Avengers: Infinity War / $359 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Avengers-Endgame-(2019)#tab=internat

3. The Avengers / $83 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Avengers-The-(2012)#tab=internationa
l

4. Avengers: Age of Ultron / $240 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Avengers-Age-of-Ultron#tab=internati
onal

5. Black Panther / $104 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Black-Panther#tab=international

6. Iron Man 3 / $0 ... Doesn't seem to have been released in China.
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Iron-Man-3#tab=international

7. Captain America: Civil War / $180 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Captain-America-Civil-War#tab=intern
ational

8. Captain Marvel / $153 Million
https://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Captain-Marvel-(2019)#tab=internatio
nal

The only movie above No Way Home that also wasn't shown in China is Iron Man 3, which shouldn't be a problem for NWH to pass at only $1.214 Billion.

As a side note, I think it's kind of funny that outside the the Avengers movies the highest grossing Marvel movie in China is a Captain America movie. I'm 100% convinced that it's because the sub-title is "Civil War".

I think this one is missing The Matrix movie. Only in the 2020's would a Matrix movie lose money and not take the number one spot for the weekend.

Good. The only Matrix movie that should have ever come out was the original Matrix. With the Animatrix being the ONLY exception, any additional film put out not only was far worse, but it detracted from the greatness of the original film. Nobody wanted to see Morpheus was only Middle-Management.

As for The King's Man? Fuck those movies. Pure violence porn trash. Maybe after the shitshow the world has become since April of 2020 people are finally tired of watching that crap. Good riddance.

What the article forgets to mention is that the advertising budget usually doubles the cost of the movie. At least, that's how it was before the Plandemic. If that's still true, those numbers are a lot worse than they already look.

I don't watch any ads, so most of the movies on that 2nd list I'd never even heard of. I'm interested in hearing more about that Sopranos thing though. I'll probably look into that.

How about because it's not 1960 and nobody wants another musical?

I know I'm coming from a biased place here since I hate the genre, but really... The only musical I could ever watch again in my life is Little Shop of Horrors. I'm not even speaking to the quality of that film, but because of the nostalgia I'd get from re-watching it now. If it were to come out today instead of the 80's I don't imagine any way I'd ever watch it.

I am surprised that a half-decade of High School Musical movies and their clones translate into a generation of kids that were more into Musicals today though. Maybe West Side Story IS just too "old-timey" a topic.

To be fair, it's a kids movie and a cartoon.

I don't really think you can count animated features as musicals. At least not in the traditional sense.

That being said though, as much as I love South Park, I hated the movie. Even South Park couldn't get me to enjoy the genre.

I really, really don't understand what they were thinking. I know that with all the woke shit out there that they don't really care what people do or don't want to see, but did they stop doing market research altogether? (I'm not claiming WSS was woke... I have no idea if it was or not).

Who in their right mind thought that a remake of West Side Story would be a good idea in the 2020s?

This movie was destined to fail before the first dime was spent on it. At least give yourself a chance out of the gates... Like The Eternals did just by the sheer virtue of being a comic book movie.

Diversity can't save ANYTHING. If diversity is your major selling point, it will only cause whatever garbage you're putting out to do worse than it would have if you just left it alone.

Get that through your heads or just keep losing money for your investors until they stop investing.

Here's a novel idea:

Why don't you actually go on the streets and ask black people if they'd rather see new black characters created with good stories and writing behind them, or if they want to see another long-time white character with blackface.

While you're at it, (and this question is mostly directed at the woke agenda comic book writers who have taken over and are killing the industry) why don't you ask those same black people if they like the fact that almost every time you put blackface on a white character you also make them gay too?

I think all you overpaid white do-gooders would be shocked at the answers you get to those questions.

Apparently your abysmal sales numbers aren't getting the message across. So drastic measures like finally breaking free of your lily-white comfort zone and actually speaking to black people are called for.

That might lead to another question that drives terror into your dreams...

After years of being a do-nothing, "white-ally", twit-tard... Are any of you even capable of carrying out a three minute real-life conversation with an actual black person without coming off as condescending and offensive to them?

I suspect that there's got to be at least a few among you who are self-aware enough to already know the answer to that question.

And it makes your skin crawl.

Comedy is never going to die.

Cancel Culture had a different name before. It was the Religious Right.

How did that turn out?

What those who've planted themselves in the industries fail to recognize is that blacks and Mexicans and Asians and women and gay people and trans people like laughing too.

A few hundred years ago, these woke people would have been burnt at the stake. That won't happen in the 2020's, but eventually this little experiment will come to a quick end when the people running the companies have decided they've lost enough money on it.

I think until we get back to normal and the theaters look like they did before, woke Hollywood is going to release all the movies they know are going to flop on streaming services too so they have something other than their shitty movies with shitty stories and shitty acting in them to blame for their shitty box office numbers.

For one single day. It's been behind Barbie ever since, and by day three even the abysmal Blue Beetle had beaten it. For the last three days it has been 4th place behind The Equalizer 3, Barbie and Blue Beetle.

HA! That'll be the day.

Whoever wrote this article apparently didn't see the last 3 times somebody tried and failed to make Fantastic 4 a thing that people cared about. And that was back before the days when people were on Twitter trying to claim that a $100 Million dollar failure in the making like Blue Beetle is a success because it's probably going to be the least financially damaging to the studio.

We've had only 2 successful Comic Book movies in 2023. Guardians 3, which did worse than Guardians 2 even with inflation and the huge price hikes at movie theaters in 2023 and which is also no a creative dead-end that Disney/Marvel can no longer capitalize on, and Miles Morales 2, which was a cartoon.

2023 is the year the Superhero died.

But please. Make this movie. Watching them all fail is far more entertaining than any of the movies themselves are.

I'm sure that happened.

People need to stop voluntarily ingesting so much soy.
