To avoid a Biden loss, I believe he must do the following over the next 99 days.

1) Concentrate on turning out core Democratic constituencies. Blacks, women and suburban voters still need to turn out in record numbers to counter the reliable Trump base voters.

2) Don't reach and expend resources on states you don't need to get to 271 electoral votes. You don't need Texas to win the presidency. The tidal force of a blue wave may deliver the state as a bonus but concentrate on other battleground states.

3) Don't be afraid to be boring. The public is tired of Trump's act. They want competence to replace the reality show. Stick to your own game. Always be the adult in the race.

4) Don't take the bait. Trump will goad you with ridiculous and slanderous charges on a daily basis. Use your advertising resources to respond where necessary to Trump, keep your message about what's best for the American people.

5) Whatever you do, don't debate Trump. Trump has now made more than 20,000 misleading or false statements according to the Washington Post. It's a fool's errand to enter the ring with someone who can't follow the rules or the truth. Biden will undoubtedly take heat from Republicans and the media for skipping the debates. But it's worth the risk as trying to debate someone incapable of telling the truth is an impossible contest to win.

6) Ignore the polls, run like you are 10 points behind. Make sure your supporters don't become complacent by not becoming complacent yourself.

With 99 days to go before election day, the race is Biden's to win. There is nothing Trump can do at this point to win it on his own. He has to depend on Biden faltering over the next three months to get reelected. With discipline and focus, Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States next January.

President Trump in his interview with Chris Wallace last weekend when asked whether he would accept the results of the election:

"It depends. I think mail-in voting is going to rig the election. I really do," Trump said.

"Are you suggesting that you might not accept the results of the election?" Wallace prodded.

Trump responded, "No. I have to see."

This is part of a pattern of recent statements from Trump preemptively calling the 2020 election results rigged, as on July 26, when he tweeted: "Rigged Election, and EVERYONE knows it!"

And that's one of some 40 times this year alone that President Trump has called the upcoming election rigged.

The usual target that triggers him is mail-in voting -- a common form of absentee voting that is predominant in five states and accounted for roughly 25% of the votes cast in 2016.

But Trump insists it is major source of voter fraud while Barr has suggested without evidence that it could be a tool of foreign interference. In fact, studies show that the rate of mail-in ballot fraud is a miniscule .0025%.

Trump's partisan defenders on this count are gleefully aiding and abetting. GOP Sen. Kevin Cramer to CNN about Trump's tweet to delay the elections: "I think that if you guys take the bait, he'll be the happiest guy in town. I read it. I laughed I thought my gosh this is going to consume a lot of people, except real people. And it was clever."

In other words, "don't worry, be happy." Now imagine Sen. Cramer's response if former President Barack Obama had said something even remotely similar. This is not a joke. This is our democracy that Trump is playing with. And he is making his intentions known.

Mail ballot fraud is exceedingly rare in part because states have systems and processes in place to prevent forgery, theft and voter fraud. These systems would apply to both absentee ballots and mail-in ballots for in-state voters.

Additionally, the President's distinction between mail-in voting and absentee voting has baffled experts who say those voting systems are essentially the same thing.

"No-excuse mail voting or absentee voting -- whatever you call it -- is essentially the same thing," David Becker, founder of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and Research, previously told CNN. "You request a ballot, you get a ballot, you vote, you send it in, and there are protections in place. It doesn't matter whether you call it mail voting or absentee voting. It's the same thing."

Carly Fiorina, who clashed with Mr. Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primary and said last month that she would vote for Mr. Biden, called the missive “classic Trump.”

Juliana Bergeron, a Republican National Committee member from New Hampshire, offered a rare and mild rebuke of Mr. Trump for focusing attention on the legitimacy of voting by mail.

“I do not believe it should be delayed nor do I believe it will be,” Ms. Bergeron said. “For one thing, it is not up to the president. I have faith in our system and think we should spend more time getting out the vote, even if it is through absentee ballots, than worrying about fraud.”

And Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator who ran against Mr. Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 and then became a Trump-supportive cable television commentator, said Thursday that he disagreed with any proposal to change the date of the election but declined to say more.

“I’m on the golf course,” Mr. Santorum said. “I gotta go.”
