Maybe they are proving that they are right by using the same models they used for Global Warming and Covid-19.

Aren't we supposed to have like 3 Million dead of Covid by now?

Whoopsie!

A quote from your article written by the Republican Party: "When these firefighter unions could have been pushing for legislation to clear the forests back in 2019, where instead did their leftist leadership direct their activist efforts? They marched in solidarity with the striking United Teachers of Los Angeles. The teachers’ unions have done to California’s public schools what environmentalists have done to California’s forests."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Well, that and it lies a lot, which is why it leaves this key claim "Year after year, environmentalists litigated and lobbied to stop efforts to clear the forests through timber harvesting, underbrush removal, and controlled burns." unsourced.

Here's one example: logging (aka timber 'harvesting') as a tool for fire reduction. Now, maybe they think people are going to not think about that too much ... so here's the reality. The timber that's 'harvested' are the largest, most profitable trees. In reality, when 'harvesting' WAS TRIED the smallest trees, and tons of tree trash like branches, leaves and needles, AND the underbrush was left behind. It was a GREAT METHOD to create worse fires than ever.

And btw, saying that timber 'harvesting' is a way to reduce fires is like saying someone taking your valuables and ransacking your house is a good method of housecleaning.

There is only 1 way to clean up the forests that ever been tried and found successful, and it's NOT a money-maker. In fact, it's incredibly labor and equipment intensive, which makes it incredibly expensive. And that is to genuinely thin the forest of smaller trees leaving the big trees behind at larger spacing, clearing out the trash and underbrush, and THEN doing a controlled burn. And you have to do all of those 3 steps in that order, for it to work. 1 out of 3 doesn't work. 2 out of 3 doesn't work. Only 3 out of 3 works, but only in that order.

Nobody wanted to spend the money. Not Ronald Reagan (R 67-75), Jerry Brown (D 75-83), George Deukmejian (R 83-91), Pete Wilson (R 91-99), Gray Davis (D 99-03), Arnold Schwarzenegger (R 03-11), Jerry Brown (D 11-19), or Gavin Newsom (19-present).

But that of course only accounts for state land.

You'd have to look to the feds for theirs.

All I hear about is how much California contributes to the country, but they can't seem to do anything about keeping their own house in order. California is in worse shape than Illinois, and that's saying a lot.

REAL environmentalists know what it takes to stop megafires. It's like KIKI said, SIX, so stop blaming environmentalists. It's all about money.

But there is one other motivation for letting the fuel load accumulate, and that is vacationers, tourists, and cabin-owners like to see thick green forests. If you have a cabin in the woods, you don't want to see your neighbor who's a mere 100 feet away. (many of the mountains in CA are steep, and the few level areas are overcrowded with vacation homes.)

Doesn't the larger trees posses more carbon storage than the smaller trees?
Fire is rapid oxidation of carbon.

And once a forest is thinned of large trees, isn't it easier to make a fire break quickly with smaller trees and brush? With timber shredders, bulldozers, etc? It would seem the huge trees are the obstruction to quickly making a path or swathe of bare ground.

Also, I'm wondering if you are talking about thinning the entire forest, or merely swathes to break up the forest groups, plus wherever the edges of the forest are? What good would really be accomplished with thinning the entire central acreage of a forest?

In a segment on the raging West Coast wildfires, Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who Trump watches every day, tried to make the baffling argument that Democratic leaders’ warnings about climate change are “like systemic racism in the sky.”

He extended the bizarre metaphor, lamenting that there was supposedly no explanation for how climate change causes more wildfires and mocking Democrats for not explaining science to him. I am glad to tell him and Trump that NASA did explain the connection, but Trump won't listen because the owners of oil wells and coal mines are his biggest campaign donors.

More at www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-tucker-carlson-calls-climate-change-sys

Here is what Trump and FOX News refuse to learn because they are being highly paid to not know: Satellite Data Record Shows Climate Change's Impact on Fires

Maybe somebody should tell Trump and Fox News host Tucker Carlson about NASA at every opportunity? Maybe remind Trump and Tucker that they should either learn from NASA or, if they can't because of the money they are being paid to remain ignorant, at least shut-up about climate change being a hoax.

Fire is rapid oxidation of carbon.

Uhm ... what does this have to do with controlling fire?
Quote:

Have you never built a fire irl? Do you put your match to the bark of the hugest log you have to start it? Or do you start the fire by lighting paper, needles and such, and use their burn to set smaller twigs on fire, and use their burn to set the kindling on fire, and use their burn to set the large logs on fire?
What you're proposing is to remove the largest trees - in effect the forest - and leave nothing but fire-starter and kindling behind, so that they'll burn completely when there's an ignition source, leaving nothing but ash behind.
You want to destroy the forest in order to save it ... ?
To get back to my 'starting a fire' example, large trees can survive a ground fire. They have far more thermal mass, which means it takes a lot more heat to get them up to ignition temperature. And they have far thicker bark, which means they can withstand more flames before vital living tree tissue is destroyed.
The trick is to keep litter, underbrush, and small trees removed. Those are the kindling that will ladder a fire up the big trees to where it will burn - needles and leaves, twigs, and smaller branches. That's called a crown fire and is the most devastating to a forest.
Quote:

Also, I'm wondering if you are talking about thinning the entire forest, or merely swathes to break up the forest groups, plus wherever the edges of the forest are? What good would really be accomplished with thinning the entire central acreage of a forest?
It depends on how much money you're willing to spend.
At present, people DEMAND !! their forest getaways. So they build into fire-prone areas. And then they wonder why it all gets destroyed. But ever willing to play along, the US federal government puts 'structure protection' up first, spending what limited resources it has on mitigating the building/ forest interface.

But to get back to the contention "Enivornmentalists (sic) Destroyed California's Forests" ... and global warming, for example, had nothing to do with it.

These forests have been here decade on decade. What was it about THIS year that was different? Might it have been the multi-year historic drought perhaps that weakened the trees that got killed off by various beetles?

And what should we then attribute the god-awful fires in Australia too? Was it the US environmental do-gooders fault?

Or what about the god-awful fires in Brazil? There's certainly no shortage of logging there!

Or the fires in Indonesia? Or Europe? Or Asia? Was it lack of logging that caused them? US forest policy?

Sooner or later, the contention that global warming has nothing to do with these fires becomes less and less ... sane.

Trump blamed California for inadequate forest management, but the California government manages only 3% of the state’s forested land. Meanwhile, Trump and the federal government oversees 57% of all California’s forested acres. 40% of the forests are private. That means it is 97% the responsibility of Trump and the private owners of forests to prevent forest fires by better management of their land. Maybe the governor of California could have ordered Trump to not burn down forests? Trump would have laughed at such an order! Despite the imbalance, Trump has threatened to withhold disaster funding from California government over the fires on California government's 3% of forests.
https://ucanr.edu/sites/forestry/California_forests/

What did California Governor Jerry Brown do about forests? The most that has ever been done: "California is managing its forests — but is the president managing its federal lands?" What did Trump do? As usual, NOTHING, which is par for course with him and why he is blaming California's government and environmentalists for the fires. Trump is NOT blaming climate change, since that would offend the owners of oil wells and coal mines, which are Trump's biggest campaign contributors.

Fox breaks out all the tools in the denier playbook to downplay climate change's role in western wildfires
https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/fox-breaks-out-all-tools-denier-
playbook-downplay-climate-changes-role-western-wildfires

Ignoring the clear scientific links between the climate crisis and this year’s apocalyptic wildfires on the West Coast, coverage on Fox News and Fox Business has downplayed and denied the role of climate change in these devastating fires, deflecting from climate science while pushing President Donald Trump’s perennial claim that forest mismanagement is to blame. At least two Fox programs have even falsely suggested that an organized campaign of arson is responsible for igniting the fires in the Pacific Northwest -- a harmful conspiracy theory that has also quickly spread across social media platforms.

Fox shows are following a playbook that they have used with other major fire disasters linked to climate change, including last year’s catastrophic bushfires in Australia and previous catastrophic fires in California.

The goal of Fox’s coverage is always the same: deflect from the scientific reality of climate change and paint Democratic policies as the true culprits in worsening the wildfires.
---

The only thing you can count on from Fox is that they'll lie.
