Yanno, the ones that were in response to the historic, ongoing, and brutal repression of POC?

Problem solved all of the sudden?

Or were they really about something else?

*****

SIX, you got it wrong: it's not Covid-19 that was destined to disappear from the news feeds, it was BLM.

All of the sudden, black lives are not an issue.

This isn't the first time that BLM came to prominence and faded completely from the collective consciousness.

They're a bunch of useful idiots, and they're just not useful aat the moment. They'll be called on again when they're needed. You won't hear much from them for the next 3 1/2 years or so.

They WILL make a stink when they realize that Biden*/Harris* aren't going to do shit for them, but the Legacy Media won't give it much coverage.

They'll be allowed to make their voices heard again leading up to the 2024 election. Especially if Trump is running again.

Everything I said about BLM goes for Antifa too. They're practically interchangeable, and they're both almost exclusively made up of white kids that were born into families with too much money.

Covid will disappear too. Trump's still in office, and since we destroyed the economy over it they know they can't just turn off that light switch immediately.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

Seeing how there really weren't any riots, it's kind of stupid of you to pretend there were.

Then again, what are we to expect from a Russian troll and an illiterate redneck?

Covid-19 is not going away. But how can that be!? The 1918 flu seems to have gone away, but is still with us. It never went away. What went away were the people with that particular weakness. The 1918 flu killed 675,000 in the United States, temporarily solving that one flu problem until more people were born with that same fatal weakness. Then they died when it was their turn. They are still dying in 2020, but evolution is erratically killing off the ones with that precise genetic weakness, while vaccines save others.

“As many as 8 to 10 percent of all young adults then living may have been killed by the virus,” historian John M. Barry wrote in his best-selling book “The Great Influenza.” A great example of evolution culling the weak.

Trump ... not much to do with that.

AFA "people seeking a freer world" ... let's see how "free" you are under Joe Biden*. Bet the media and corporate social media oligopolies continue to censor and defame without consequence (they'll never get broken up or lose 230 protections), hospital corps and big pharma and insurances continue to suck money out of the USA economy without consequence (they'll never get broken up either), the MIC gets a crap-ton of money (THAT'LL never change!), more war mongering from Biden*, more surveillance, and EVEN MORE jobs get offshored,

Yep, sounds like a win for the American people and the world!!

Most wars are started by just one area becoming destabilized and then spreading, derp.

Here, maybe this redneck song can help you understand. Right.

You have a buddy who gets in a barfight. You help buddy out. Buddy then comes to your aid when a Rethuglican domestic terrorist shoots 300 people from a hotel
window. It's a win-win for both of you, and maybe less assholes in bars... who most likely would be waiting with an IED to blow you up when you pass by that same bar later. You become known for not taking any shit and ppl mostly let you drink in peace.

If you do nothing, EVERYONE SUFFERS. Bartenders, wait staff, neighbors. See how that works??

Here's an idea, why don't you write people who have control over such things and ask THEM?? Instead of bitching endlessly on a mostly dead fansite for eternity, accomplishing NOTHING??

It is about money. Military Spending Has Been Remarkably Flat Over the Past 50 Years. It goes up and down during wars and peacetime, but ever since we came down from the Vietnam peak it’s remarkable how steady it’s been. The American populace seems willing to spend about $2000 each for defense, and that changes only modestly and temporarily over time.
https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2020/12/military-spending-has-b
een-remarkably-flat-over-the-past-50-years
/

Now that I think of it, military spending would decrease year after year if there were not new places to justify spending steadily: Moldova ... Iraq ... Afghanistan ... Syria... Straits of Taiwan ... Venezuela ... Afghanistan ... Yemen ... Libya ... Sudan ... ? Congressmen in the 50 states do NOT want military spending to decrease in their particular state. They all work together for the good of each state's economy, in partnership with the strategists in the Dept. of Defense and State, to keep the spending nice and steady. It is a jobs program. It supports your local defense contractor. It keeps stock prices up for investors in the defense industries.

Typical story for one state. Multiply by 50 states and the total means the military must pick fights all over the world to keep spending steady back in the US: "Here’s What The Defense Spending Bill Means For Hawaii And The Pacific"

The defense funding bill for next year puts a heavy emphasis on military operations in the Pacific amid growing tensions between the United States and China, calling for a review of U.S. missile defense systems and restoring funding for a new missile defense radar facility in Hawaii.

The 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed by an overwhelming majority in the U.S. Senate on Friday, also included $301 million for construction projects on Hawaii bases, including two new child development centers for military families, a new aircraft maintenance hangar and wharf improvement projects.
https://www.civilbeat.org/2020/12/heres-what-the-defense-spending-bill
-means-for-hawaii-and-the-pacific
/

One more story from Stars and Stripes: "Congress has agreed on a $740.5B defense bill; here's how it impacts pay, ACFT, Space Force and more"
https://www.stripes.com/news/us/congress-has-agreed-on-a-740-5b-defens
e-bill-here-s-how-it-impacts-pay-acft-space-force-and-more-1.654245

“Just as Congress has done for the last 59 years in a row, we have reached a bipartisan, bicameral agreement on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021,” Sens. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Jack Reed of Rhode Island, the ranking Democrat on the committee, said Thursday in a joint statement.

Senators do not know what war and where the Pentagon will be fighting in 2021, but Senators know precisely how much money will be spent in their state.

WISHY: WE ARE DEFENDING THE PLANET FROM MILTANT TAKEOVERS, USUALLY WITH THE HELP OF FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS,

So, we defend THE PLANET? This is the first thing I have issue with. Even IF we REALLY were "defending the plant" against bad guy (and I have issue with that too) I don't think it's our responsibility to fight everyone, everywhere. And it's not in our best interest, even in the long run. It's bad for us to be spending blood and money on foreign soil when we are neglecting our own nation.

Yanno, if we wanted to engage in "nation building" maybe we should start here, and upgrade our infrastructure and health care.

Quote:

WHO HAVE THIS REALLY SILLY IDEA THAT MILITANTS ARE BAAAAAD.
Well, this is where we have a strong disagreement.

If that's the case, then why do WE use militants and terrorists as proxies?

We did in Afghanistan under Carter (INCUDING OSAMA BIN LADEN, DIRECTLY) to drive out the Soviet-backed government ... destroyed roads, hospitals, schools, airports. Drove out a government that backed RIGHTS AND EDUCATION FOR WOMEN and shoved women back into the home and under the niqab and under the control of fundamentalist Islamicists and warlords. So many recently educated women ... doctors, engineers, teachers ... were so distraught at the sudden LOSS OF FREEDOM that they suicided. We created such DESTABILIZATION that the entire Afghanistan collapsed, back to the stone age. We even joked, in our SECOND war on Afghanistan under GWB, that we would bomb them BACK INTO THE STONE AGE from which they had just recently emerged. Why were we bombing the very people we had put in power??

So, who were we "defending"? Did our wars on Afghanistan make things better, or worse, for the people there (especially women)?

Ok, let's look at Niacaragua. In much the same way that we entered on the side of oppression in Afghanistan, we entered on the side of the elite in Nicaragua under Reagan. In a complex deal, our semi-black ops military (Oliver North) made money by selling arms to fundamentalists in IRAN (yep) and used that money to fund ANTI-GOVERNMENT RIGHT WING DEATH SQUADS in Nicaragua. Now, the government's aims at the times were pretty modest: education for everyone, health care for everyone, and land reform that would take some land away from plantation owners and give it to people to farm so they could at least support themselves at a level above starvation. Most people supported the reforms, but the Nicaraguan elites ... well, not so much. Se WE CAME IN ON THE SIDE OF THE ELITES.

Syria. What started out as a political reform movement ended up as a magnet for every flavor of jihadist and terrorst fighting against the government. WE armed, trained, and funded jihadists directly in Jordan, and we protected them by providing air cover for their takeover of the Syrian oil fields, and their sale of illegal oil to Turkey. OUR BUDDIES, the Saudis, funded ISIS DIRECTLY. For a while, when Raqqa was the capital of the "ISIS caliphate", the Saudi dinar was the official currency. The Saudis also supplied them with amphetamines. In ISIS war on Syria, we saw them behead their enemies, BURN WOMEN ALIVE IN CAGES, and take girls and women as slaves. Once again, we were ON THE SIDE OFOPPRESSION.

Libya: Under Qaddafi, Libya had the highest living standard of any nation in Africa. He used Libya's oil money to invest in the country. Everyone was well-fed, women were educated to the same level as men, newlyweds even got a free home or apartment. Then we bombed the snot out of Libya, and USING JIHADISTS AS PROXIES drove Qadaffi from power. Libya is now an OPEN AIR SLAVE MARKET.

I could point to example after example where we came in on the WRONG SIDE, making life a hell for the people living there.

So I dispute that we are "defending" from oppression. If you look at the ACTUAL RESULTS of our "interventions" we usually leave the nations as poverty-stricken failed states where the rights of women and the poor are destroyed.

Since you seem to have a funadamental misunderstanding of what we are doing in the world, I didn't bother to reply to your analogy: It's completely wrong.

Quote:

Here's an idea, why don't you write people who have control over such things and ask THEM??
I do

Quote:

Instead of bitching endlessly on a mostly dead fansite for eternity, accomplishing NOTHING??
Then why do you ENDLESSLY SUPPORT OPPRESSION AND GENOCIDE ON A MOSTLY DEAD FANSITE? Yanno, maybe if you stopped supporting evil, I wouldn't complain so much about you!

I have a suggestion; Why don't you clarify your idea of what you REALLY WANT for people? You seem to have this knot in your thinking that it's OK to kill, impoverish, or enslave people as long as your INTENTIONS are for "freedom". But you don't seem to want to look at the process, or the results.

In my observation, bad process usually leads to bad results. You can't kill, terrorize, and genocide people, and expect freedom to result from a campaign of terror.

Give it some thought: How can people best be freed?

Better yet: define freedom first.

SECOND: It war was merely a case of "making money" then you might think that we would come in on the side of angels, at least once in a while, by sheer random chance.

But we come in on the side of the elites and terrorists, leaving nations much worse than when we found them, and it happens so often that there's got to be more than random chance at work.

The Best and Brightest Americans have given it some thought. What was the result of all that thinking? I'll give a long quote from the book "The Best and Brightest" in a foreword by Sen. John McCain about Vietnam and the politicians/bureaucrats in charge:

No other national endeavor requires as much unshakable resolve as war. If the nation and the government lack that resolve, it is criminal to expect men in the field to carry it alone. In the end, the men whose characters, motivation, and reasoning Halberstam reveals so convincingly lacked the necessary resolve to succeed because they misjudged the enemy’s resolve. They misjudged American power. They misjudged our South Vietnamese allies. They misjudged the Soviets and the Chinese. They misjudged the world. And, most of all, they misjudged themselves. Or so it seems to many who lost good years or their health or happiness as a consequence of their monumental misjudgments, to say nothing of those who lost their lives.

I have often seen this book’s title described as ironic. I don’t think it is. The men who sent Americans to war in Vietnam were, by many standards, the best and the brightest. They were extraordinarily intelligent, well-educated, informed, experienced, patriotic, and capable leaders. They were elegant and persuasive. They seemed born to govern, and America once had as much confidence in them as they so abundantly had in themselves. But, in the end, they had more confidence than vision, and that failing bred in them a fateful hubris. No irony here, but a classic tragedy.

I very much doubt that Americans will ever again believe that our country has a native governing class. That’s one of the lessons of our war in Vietnam, and of the book that best explains how we got there.

You can download the entire book for free at https://libgen.unblockit.dev/search.php?req=Halberstam+best+and+bright

In my opinion, the governing class of America in 2020 cannot do better than governing class of the 1960's. Any thinking that class does now is worthless on the Signym's question "How can people best be freed?"

War is a poor tool for generating freedom. It's not impossible, but you MUST have a clear enemy who is an oppressor, and that oppressor must not have the general support of the population.

Naturally, we came in on the side of the French.

From there, it all went downhill because we did not define our goals.

Have you ever seen a book or paper from either State or Defense Dept. that defined America's foreign policy goals in a way that could possibly succeed? There hasn't been one before or after WWII. The Second World War was a fluke because it was run by people who actually had clear goals that could be successfully completed. But the switch of Presidents from FDR to Truman, that moron Vice President from Missouri who wasn't trustworthy enough to know about the top secret Manhattan Project, caused the War to end badly by nuking women and children. Ever since we have been stupidly thinking that nukes won the War and thousands of nukes are keeping us safe today. Neither idea about nukes is true.

I've been to war and seen how military officers, when they are far away from America, think. The officers have clear, precise and very simple goals even when the White House and Pentagon does not. The officers protect their own lives and their men and never seriously worry about killing the wrong people. And so America gets the godawful results that would be expected when turning America's real foreign policy over to low level officers.

One example would be nice: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrest_and_assassination_of_Ngo_Dinh_Die

Arrest and assassination of Ngo Dinh Diem
Kennedy wasn't thinking clearly, but local Vietnamese officers filled in the details left unspecified by the White House.

You give our politicians and military leaders far too much credit by excusing our failed "interventions" as "mistakes" by unguided field officers.

Who deployed those troops in the first place? It wasn't the lieutenants and captains stuck in the fog of war. It was the Commander in Chief, President of the USA, and a gutless Congress willing to let the CIC launch wars without authorization, and willing to continue funding them even when they've gone tits up.

Why don't we see this for what it is? A deliberate policy of screwing other nations over.

My guess would be a deliberate policy of screwing us over via screwing other nations over.

Invade, disrupt, spread chaos. Those peoples eager, willing and intelligent enough to just go to work and slave away making crap we don't need on the cheap for pennies on the dollar fostering an ever growing resentment for us all the while. Multi-National Legacy Media ripping our country to shreds in the eyes of foreign people as well as a large portion of people who live here and take it for granted, but at the same time doing whatever they can to make sure that we never stop the imperialism by calling the pulling of troops out of foreign nations unpatriotic and using their collective power to make sure that the only president in this century that didn't start a new war only served one term.

Our tax dollars pay for this behavior, which means in the end on some level each and every one of us are culpable, no matter how we vote in any election.

What have you done today to earn your place in this crowded world? :)

The White House has never had people in charge, except during FDR's administration, that should be allowed in charge of anything complicated, especially not this country or any other such as Iraq or Vietnam. That these White House people make bad decisions, or let things drift, should be expected. And when things do drift, the people at the lowest level make the decisions that should properly be made at the highest levels. One example from Obama's administration: he should have made it crystal clear that he either wanted Osama bin Laden alive or dead. Pick one and only one. Instead, Obama left the decision to some goddamn butthead SEAL with a 90% certainty bin Laden would be killed.

So you blame the WH. Good. That is where the blame belongs. Also, don't forget Osama's... I mean, Obama's... secret drone wars, "color revolutions" and "regime change" operations in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, and Egypt (which failed).

So, why izzit that the ONLY President NOT to start another war was attempted to be driven from office by bogus charges of "collusion"? And that was with the help of the FBI, CIA, MI6, State Department, establishment Congressional Republicans as well as Democrats, and a complicit media and corporate social media?

Why were his attempts to withdraw troops constantly blocked?

The last question is easy to answer. The Senators and Representatives from all 50 states want their state to continue receiving Defense Dept. money. But if there are no or few wars, the money slows until it is being spent at the same low levels as France or Japan or China. Although they love the money from war, few of these wimpy Congressmen want to take responsibility for deciding when or where to go to war. That is why there have been no declarations of war since 1942.

As for bogus charges of "collusion", there were not any, except in Trump's fat dumb head. What was being investigated was Russian interference in elections. Trump never understood it wasn't about him until he made it all about himself by insisting Russia did nothing and Trump would be a braying jackass to stop enquiry into Russia.

American policy is made by people too articulate and too stupid to stop talking and stop planning coup d'états that fail because the American planners are stupid. See the last 60 years of policy toward Cuba if you want to see American stupidity in action.

You are out of your mind, Signym.

1) Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller to do a “full and thorough investigation of the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election”.
https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3726408/Rosenstein-letter-a
ppointing-Mueller-special.pdf

2) Mueller found that the Russian government did interfere: “The Internet Research Agency (IRA) carried out the earliest Russian interference operations identified by the investigation—a social media campaign designed to provoke and amplify political and social discord in the United States. The IRA was based in St. Petersburg. Russia, and received funding from Russian oligarch Yevgeniy Prigozhin and companies he controlled. Prigozhin is widely reported to have ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.”

“At the same time that the IRA operation began to focus on supporting candidate Trump in early 2016. the Russian government employed a second form of interference: cyber intrusions (hacking) and releases of hacked materials damaging to the Clinton Campaign. The Russian intelligence service known as the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Army (GRU) carried out these operations.”
https://www.justice.gov/storage/report.pdf

3) Mueller’s Volume 2 said: “Our obstruction-of-justice inquiry focused on a series of actions by the President that related to the Russian-interference investigations, including the President’s conduct towards the law enforcement officials overseeing the investigations and the witnesses to relevant events.”

The conclusion was Trump is a Crook.

4) Trump won’t let Congress see the full Mueller Report and has taken his case to the Supreme Court.

“A little more than a year ago, special counsel Robert Mueller released his report concerning Russian interference in the 2016 election and President Donald Trump’s efforts to obstruct that investigation. Remarkably, Congress still has not seen the entire, unredacted report. The Department of Justice withheld portions of the report that concerned grand jury matters, and it has fought the release of those excerpts to Congress. Now, the Supreme Court will decide whether Congress can view the unredacted report, as centuries of precedent dictate, or whether the Trump administration can continue to obstruct Congress’ legitimate oversight request.”

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/06/supreme-court-trump-vs-rul
e-of-law.html

There is more, and it happened last week:

5) Trump Vetoed the National Defense Appropriation Act (NDAA) to Protect His Shell Companies

Buried in its 4500+ pages is something called the Corporate Transparency Act. This puts Trump and his family in jeopardy.

Trump’s fondness for shell companies is well-known, from the one Michael Cohen set up for him to pay off Stormy Daniels (something “Individual One” was well aware of) to the recently exposed shell Jared Kushner has been using to siphon off funds from the Trump campaign:

A campaign shell company created in part by Jared Kushner spent half of President Donald Trump’s massive war chest and secretly paid Trump family members and associates, according to a bombshell report in Business Insider Friday.

The new requirements in the defense bill apply to existing shell companies and not just new ones. This bill threatens to expose Trump’s business activities in ways not previously possible.

That is false. The Defense budget increased every year that Trump was President:

The Senate will take a key test vote on Friday on whether to override President Trump's veto of a mammoth defense bill. The veto override effort overcame an initial procedural hurdle on Wednesday night in an 80-12 vote. The Senate floor action comes after the House voted to override Trump on Monday in an 322-87 vote.

Apparently the riots are still going on albeit in a more sporadic, areally-limited way. And antifa is being identified as the culprit by both the mayor and the police chief.

I scanned though enough news from enough sources - mostly local - to think that that's a fair representation.

Here's one example:
