Dominion has filed defamation lawsuits against several Trump allies for pushing election ‘radioactive falsehoods’

Last modified on Sun 4 Apr 2021 02.01 EDT

When Donald Trump and his allies pushed the “big lie” of voter fraud and a stolen election, it seemed nothing could stop them spreading disinformation with impunity.

Politicians and activists’ pleas fell on deaf ears. TV networks and newspapers fact-checked in vain. Social media giants proved impotent.

But now a little-known tech company, founded 18 years ago in Canada, has the conspiracy theorists running scared. The key: suing them for defamation, potentially for billions of dollars.

“Libel laws may prove to be a very old mechanism to deal with a very new phenomenon of massive disinformation,” said Bob Shrum, a Democratic strategist. “We have all these fact checkers but lots of people don’t care. Nothing else seems to work, so maybe this will.”

The David in this David and Goliath story is Dominion Voting Systems, an election machine company named after Canada’s Dominion Elections Act of 1920. Its main offices are in Toronto and Denver and it describes itself as the leading supplier of US election technology. It says it serves more than 40% of American voters, with customers in 28 states.

But the 2020 election put a target on its back. As the White House slipped away and Trump desperately pushed groundless claims of voter fraud, his lawyers and cheerleaders falsely alleged Dominion had rigged the polls in favour of Joe Biden.

Among the more baroque conspiracy theories was that Dominion changed votes through algorithms in its voting machines that were created in Venezuela to rig elections for the late dictator Hugo Chávez.

"The truth matters. Lies have consequences" -- Dominion Voting Systems

It was laughable but also potentially devastating to Dominion’s reputation and ruinous to its business. It also fed a cocktail of conspiracy theories that fuelled Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol on 6 January, as Congress moved to certify the election results. Five people died, including an officer of the Capitol police.

The company is fighting back. It filed $1.3bn defamation lawsuits against Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, and MyPillow chief executive Mike Lindell, for pushing the allegations without evidence.

Separately, Dominion’s security director, Eric Coomer, launched a suit against the Trump campaign, Giuliani, Powell and some conservative media figures and outlets, saying he had been forced into hiding by death threats.

Then came the big one. Last month Dominion filed a $1.6bn defamation suit against Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, accusing it of trying to boost ratings by amplifying the bogus claims.

Trump is NOT facing prison. On this subject Trump is far smarter than the smartest Democrats who believe words are all powerful. Trump knows that he is not guilty of anything until his lawyers run out of ideas on how to appeal. Trump knows he has not lost the election until he admits he lost. No one will force him to say the words "I'm guilty" or "I lost." It is ridiculous that nobody will use force on Trump but that is how it is in America where nobody dares to stop talking and start giving rich and powerful Trump the bloody beating with a baseball bat that he has earned and Trump knows perfectly well that nobody ever will. Now if Trump was poor, his refusal to admit he lost or he's guilty would not protect him from the American justice system.

Why is it that every time the 2020 ELECTION FRAUD is discussed, the Fake News Media consistently states that such charges are baseless, unfounded, unwarranted, etc ? Sadly, there was massive fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election, and many very angry people understand that. With each passing day. and unfortunately for the Radical Left CRAZIES, more and more facts are coming out.

New Mexico city sends Trump campaign’s $200,000 bill to collection agency
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/4/23/2027318/-City-of-Albuquerqu
e-sends-Trump-campaign-s-200-000-security-bill-to-collection-agency?detail=emaildkre

The past five years brought unprecedented reporting on what seemed to be transparent corruption within the Trump organization and administration. Much of the clearly dubious handling of money came out of Donald Trump’s campaign apparatus. Up until the end, Trump’s campaign was run like a traveling con job, and any and all fundraising done in service of his candidacy was used to pay off everything but campaign costs. The Trump administration, like the Trump organization of the past 40+ years, tried to leave citizens holding the bag at every turn. One of the main gripes that states and localities had with Trump’s never-ending campaign was his propensity to leave the costs of enormous security bills on the shoulders of local taxpayers.

One city that has waited more than 19 months for the Trump campaign to pay its debt is Albuquerque, New Mexico. KOB4 reports that Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller sent a $200,000 bill to a collection agency in the hopes of receiving money he says the Trump campaign owes the city. "We actually treated it like any other debt, and so it goes through a somewhat process where you send a bunch of letters out. We got no response from those letters. And then automatically, it does go to an agency that helps try and collect debts, and so that's those annoying phone calls you get that say, you know, you owe money to so-and-so—like now, Trump is getting those."

The Albuquerque mayor is not the first public official to make a statement concerning Trump’s campaign rallies, their costs, and his tendency to leave large bills for state and city budgets to reconcile themselves. The strangely coifed conman got bent out of shape while still in office when Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mayor Jacob Frey sent the Trump campaign a preemptive $500,000 estimated security bill back in October 2019.

Back in November, Newsweek reported that the loser campaign owed at least $850,000 to various local agencies for the costs of his rallies. The City of El Paso, Texas, which says the twice-impeached president owes $500,000, hired outside legal counsel in November 2020 to help with the collection of that debt. El Paso officials say that debt has been outstanding since February 2019.

The Trump campaign began making sure it could plead poverty right after Trump lost on Nov. 6. According to reports, while Trump and friends fundraised off of his attempts to overturn the election results, campaign money was quickly moved into a variety of Trump businesses and Trump-connected businesses. Besides enriching oneself, it is also a good way to stiff other people waiting for payment.

Republicans like Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota have been mum on Donald Trump’s corruption not simply because they’ve found it politically advantageous to side with Trump, but because they, too, have benefited from the same campaign financing corruptions.

When the news outlet reached out for a comment, the Trump campaign emailed KOB 4 that it was “reviewing your request.”

Trump MOCKED for his most DELUSIONAL Statement yet

What we know:
David Logan, who is in charge of this, is a right wing conspiracy theorist and Trump supporter who announced long ago he thinks the election was stolen (absolute bias).
Logan is using 'volunteers," all of whom are untrained and unsupervised and unqualified.
Some of those volunteers brought blue and black pens which is absolutely forbidden around ballots - only red pens. They can use these to deface the ballots to negate them.
The media are forbidden to enter the premises.
The ballots were left unsupervised for over a day after delivery.
This isn't just another recount, it's an attempt to manufacture "proof" of election fraud. When they get away with this they will demand a recount in Pennsylvania and Michigan and anywhere else it was close.
This will all be used to justify the most outrageous voter suppression laws.

Beyond the grandiose promises initially made about the plant — which Trump hailed as the "eighth wonder of the world" — the price tag of the original incentive deal was one of the concerns that attracted so much attention to the project.
"Conservatively, it was over $200,000 per job," said Tim Bartik, senior economist at the WE Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, a nonpartisan think tank that studied the original deal. "Typically for a new company, incentives are close to $50,000 per job. This new package is close to that."

Republicans' strategy now relies entirely on stoking the eternal 'victimhood' of their voters
https://www.alternet.org/2021/04/gop-victims/?utm_source=&utm_medi
um=email&utm_campaign=7018&recip_id=28351&list_id=2

Thomas Edsall, writing for The New York Times convincingly suggests that the glue that bound Republicans together in 2016 and 2020 owes far more to simple psychology than any real sense of economic deprivation, lost economic status, or lack of educational attainment. It is a psychology of injured pride and fear of lost status, an unending sense of victimhood, carefully prodded and cultivated—most visibly by Trump himself since taking office, and now adopted by the rest of the Republican Party as their sole political strategy going forward.

This formula is hardly unique to Trump or the GOP. As pointed out by Alexandra Homolar and Georg Lofflmann, two authors quoted by Edsall, the "humiliation" narrative of victimhood is one commonly employed by so-called populist demagogues thoughout Europe and elsewhere.

From the abstract of their research paper, Populism and the Affective Politics of Humiliation Narratives:

As we show, within the populist security imaginary, humiliation is the key discursive mechanism that helps turn abstract notions of enmity into politically consequential affective narratives of loss, betrayal, and oppression. Humiliation binds together an ostensibly conflicting sense of national greatness and victimhood to achieve an emotive response that enables a radical departure from established domestic and international policy norms and problematizes policy choices centered on collaboration, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution.

In more simple terms, by constantly stoking this over-arching narrative of perpetual victimhood, a demagogue such as Trump (or anyone else) can motivate his followers to reject the very tools of democratic governance that a country such as the U.S. relies on to resolve political differences. This is why millions of Trump voters were so primed and ready to believe that the election was somehow "stolen" from them by some murky, nefarious means. This is the psychology that prompted thousands of conspiracy-addled insurrectionists to attack the U.S. Capitol. It's why despite being the very targets of that mob of rioters, the vast majority of Republican legislators have refused and will continue to refuse to acknowledge the truth about what prompted those attacks.

These legislators are duplicitous—and in most cases, knowingly so. But as things currently stand, they know that any departure from the victimhood narrative will be met with howls of outrage by their constituents. So they will continue to parrot it, because as Trump amply demonstrated, the tactic works. As astounding as it is, white Republican voters, who by many objective measures are some of the most privileged, pampered people in the world, now consider themselves as victims.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is suing the federal government over a program that provides debt relief to racially and ethnically diverse farmers and ranchers that he says discriminates against white ones, including himself.

Miller, who filed the suit Monday in federal court in Fort Worth, is pursuing the issue in a personal capacity, not as part of official role or on behalf of the state. The commissioner, who owns and operates a ranch near Stephenville, about 70 miles southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, is being represented by lawyers from the America First Legal Foundation. The Washington-based conservative nonprofit was founded by former Trump adviser Stephen Miller.

Miller’s suit seeks class action relief for all white farmers and for U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor to put a stop to the program.

Freshman Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., had called the aid plan racist, and asked for the Department of Justice to investigate it as a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, according to agricultural magazine Progressive Farmer.

Historians will note that Trump is using crazier lies after he left the White House. There is no Cabinet to tell him he can't say that because it is indecent as they did while he was President:

As our Country is being destroyed, both inside and out, the Presidential Election of 2020 will go down as THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY!

Donald J. Trump 12:35pm May 15, 2021 www.donaldjtrump.com/desk/desk-m9xwwg56fp/

Wall Street Journal has reported (they finally got something right), that 2020 was the “Worst Presidential Poll Miss in 40 Years.” The public opinion surveys ahead of the 2020 Presidential Election were the most inaccurate ever, according to a major polling panel. This was done purposely. The polls were a joke. I won States in a landslide that I was predicted to lose days before the election. Other states had me purposely so far down that it would force people, even fans, to say “Let's stay home Darling. We love our President, but he can’t win.” And then I would win those states or at least come very close. In one state that I actually won, but the results were rigged, ABC and the Washington Post had me down by 17 points. Even the rigged final result was extremely close. It’s called SUPPRESSION POLLING and it should be illegal. These are crooked, disgusting, and very dishonest media outlets and they know exactly what they are doing. The 2020 Presidential Election was, by far, the greatest Election Fraud in the history of our Country. The good news is, the American people get it and the truth is rapidly coming out! Had Mike Pence had the courage to send the Electoral College vote back to states for recertification, and had Mitch McConnell fought for us instead of being the weak and pathetic leader he is, we would right now have a Republican President who would be VETOING the horrific Socialistic Bills that are rapidly going through Congress, including Open Borders, High Taxes, Massive Regulations, and so much else!

Donald J. Trump 2:12pm May 15, 2021 www.donaldjtrump.com/desk/desk-4yeh37peju/

The entire Database of Maricopa County in Arizona has been DELETED! This is illegal and the Arizona State Senate, who is leading the Forensic Audit, is up in arms. Additionally, seals were broken on the boxes that hold the votes, ballots are missing, and worse. Mark Brnovich, the Attorney General of Arizona, will now be forced to look into this unbelievable Election crime. Many Radical Left Democrats and weak Republicans are very worried about the fact that this has been exposed. The DELETION of an entire Database and critical Election files of Maricopa County is unprecedented. Many other States to follow. The Mainstream Media and Radical Left Democrats want to stay as far away as possible from the Presidential Election Fraud, which should be one of the biggest stories of our time. Fox News is afraid to cover it—there is rarely a mention. Likewise, Newsmax has been virtually silent on this subject because they are intimidated by threats of lawsuits. One America News (OAN), one of the fastest growing networks on television, and the “hottest”, is doing a magnificent job of exposing the massive fraud that took place. The story is only getting bigger and at some point it will be impossible for the weak and/or corrupt media not to cover. Thank you to OAN and other brave American Patriots. It is all happening quickly!

GOP Arizona Election Official Blasts “Unhinged” Trump: “Insane Lies”

The Republican official who heads up the Arizona county elections department that is subject to an ongoing audit of the results from the 2020 presidential election has publicly lashed out against former President Donald Trump for spreading lies. Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer didn’t just criticize Trump, he also pointed the finger at other fellow Republicans who allow the misinformation to continue. Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer took to Twitter on Saturday to call a Trump statement that claimed the county had deleted an elections database as “unhinged,” assuring absolutely nothing had happened to the archive. “We can’t indulge these insane lies any longer. As a party. As a state. As a country. This is as readily falsifiable as 2+2=5. If we don’t call this out…” Richer wrote on Twitter.

Richer sent the tweet after Trump issued a statement in which he said there had been a “DELETION of an entire Database and critical Election files,” which he characterized as “unprecedented.” Richer said Trump’s statement amounted a “plain-as-day lie.”

Richer, who has been in the job since January after defeating the Democratic incumbent, has been pushing back against election fraud claims that are being pushed by Republican leaders. “Enough with the defamation. Enough with the unfounded allegations,” Richer tweeted Thursday. He expressed frustration that instead of focusing on his job he now has to defend himself from accusations “of shredding ballots and deleting files” coming from members of his own party.

Richer isn’t the only one pushing back. Jack Sellers, a Republican who is the chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has been publicly criticizing the company that was hired to do the audit. “I know you all have grown weary of lies and half-truths six months after 2020 General Elections,” Sellers said as he announced a public hearing Monday to push back against the lies that are being peddled about the election. The hearing is taking place after Republican Senate President Karen Fann said “serious issues” had been found in the audit. But Sellers says that has more do with their ignorance of elections than anything else. “It’s clearer by the day: the people hired by the Senate are in way over their heads,” Sellers said. “This is not funny; this is dangerous.”

Trump and I have one thing in common: we don't care, unless there something to be gained. What reaverfan does, or doesn't, do is no gain for me. That's why Trump doesn't need every person who hears him to believe his lies. Just so long as the money keeps coming in fast enough, Trump will keep lying, adjusting the lies, fine-tuning, to maintain or even increase the flow of money.

As you have said many time, 6ix, Trump will be fine, just so long as his lies keep successfully working on somebody and nobody gets sufficiently offended by his lying to successfully murder him.

Donald Trump's online traffic has slumped massively, as he struggles to win back his audience after being banned from social networks

Trump's blog posts weren't being widely shared on social networks, The Washington Post reported.

His blog posts were reportedly shared less than 2,000 times each day on Facebook last week.

Engagement on Trump-related posts on social networks reportedly fell by about 95% since January.

Trump's 'Mar-a-Lago Trio' Broke Law in Plan to Monetize Veterans' Medical Records

Three executives used their personal ties to former President Donald Trump to allegedly break the law to shape veterans' policies for their own benefit, according to the findings of an investigation by House Democrats released Monday.

Donald Trump shakes Ike Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment, hand before signing an executive order at the US Department of Veterans Affairs April 27, 2017, in Washington, DC.

Known as the "Mar-a-Lago Trio," the group is comprised of Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter, attorney Marc Sherman and doctor Bruce Moskowitz. A joint investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs found the three men allegedly used their connection to Mar-a-Lago, Trump's private golf club, to secretly influence the Department of Veterans Affairs during his presidential administration.

The men were also accused of refusing to comply with a law known as the Federal Advisory Committee Act, according to a statement from the chairs of the two committees.

The "Trio" are accused of benefitting from their work in the development of programs at the VA, including a plan to monetize the medical records of veterans.

The committees' news release also claimed Ivanka Trump, daughter of the former president, and her husband/Trump adviser, Jared Kushner, were aware of the group's dealings. The report said investigators looked into newly released documents that included emails from Ivanka's personal email account.

The report said emails show senior VA officials were concerned that the group's work was in violation of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which outlines procedures for the creation and operations of advisory boards to verify they are acting in the public's interest. The questions raised in the correspondences were dismissed and ignored, according to the investigation.

Trump claims his ex-top aide Stephanie Grisham wrote 'bad and untrue things' about him because she was 'angry and bitter' over a breakup

Grisham's memoir paints her ex-boss as dishonest and incompetent.

Grisham, who was one of the most senior aides to both the former president and former first lady, described the Trumps and their inner circle as dishonest and incompetent, according to reporting on the book. It Looks Like Trump Lied About Donating His Presidential Salary

Remember when Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election (I know, I don’t like thinking about it either) and he claimed he would donate his entire presidential salary—a hefty sum of $400,000 a year—to charity? He sure loved talking about it. During his campaign in 2015, he tweeted that he wouldn’t keep “even one dollar” of his salary, claiming that he would “totally [give] up my salary if I become president.” In March 2019, he tweeted that “While the press doesn’t like writing about it, nor do I need them to, I donate my yearly Presidential salary of $400,000.00 to different agencies throughout the year.”

Thanks to the release of his tax returns from 2015 to 2020, we now know more about his history of donations—and there’s a significant gap. According to CNN, Trump claimed no charitable donations at all on his 2020 tax return, making it extremely unlikely that he donated that year’s salary. Plus, many of the charitable donations he claimed in previous years are “unsubstantiated.”

Did the enormous loss he claimed on his 2020 taxes mean that he needed the $400,000 to scrape by? Did he just get bored and spiteful after losing the 2020 election? We don’t know for sure what happened to that money, but what his tax returns make clear is that, after promising to donate every last cent of his salary, he failed to keep that promise.

I called Trumps statement he was going to forgo his salary bullshit in real time. I find it easy, comforting, finding out I am always right. Too funny...

Trump Flat-Out Lies About Endorsing Republican Behind Border Bill

Provided by Rolling Stone

Donald Trump is furiously attempting to sink a bipartisan border and immigration package that the Senate unveiled on Sunday - so much so that he's outright lying about having endorsed the bill's author, Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.).

During an interview on Monday with right-wing radio host Dan Bongino, the former president claimed that he had never endorsed Lankford, one of the chief architects and advocates for the legislation. "Just to correct the record, I did not endorse Senator Lankford, I didn't do it," Trump said. "He ran and I didn't endorse him."
