JONGSSTRAW

From 1968, still one of my favorite live performances ever. Steve Marriott before Humble Pie, accompanied by maybe the best looking gal of the era.

Another two great songs I've been hearing on the radio a lot recently.

Don't know why I'm hearing X's and O's on the radio everyday. It looks like it's 7 years old. Maybe it just got popular now??? I'd never heard it until about a month ago myself.

They've both got AMAZING voices, IMO.

Not a favorite or anything, but I heard a song that I haven't heard since I was a kid and got some good nostalgia vibes from it.

Took me a while to find it because I had forgotten the lyrics and everything by the time I got home. Super cool that music stations keep a daily history of songs they play online these days.

I figured it was Paula Abdul, so that made the search even harder.

Feel good jam. Music was a lot happier back in those days.

Maybe if we went back to happy music people would be happier?

Speaking of happier music, I saw this great video about Don't Worry, Be Happy the other day and thought I should share it.

I could totally see how some people could absolutely hate this song because of the reasons brought up in the video, but me and my brothers freakin' loved this song when it was played every 5 minutes on the radio. It didn't matter that we were being carted around between 3 houses after the divorce and my youngest brother was still in a wheelchair after the brain hemorrhage at the time. We really loved just listening to the happier tunes on the radio back then.

Things probably would have been tougher for us if we didn't have 80's music to escape with.

What a great jam.

And it wasn't until I saw that retrospective video a week or so ago that I realized that there wasn't a single instrument, and it was all Bobby McFerrin doing the entire thing acapella. It's easy to hear that when it's pointed out to you, but I guess like the guy who made the analysis video it just never occurred to me before. It's the only acapella song in history that ever topped the Billboard charts.

I was a real little kid when Girls Just Wanna Have Fun came out. Didn't matter that I was a boy, I loved when that song was on the radio. It didn't make me want to play with Barbie dolls or put on a skirt. It was just a fun song.

My favorite Lauper song was always "Good Enough". Even though I love the movie The Goonies, I refuse to call it by the full title. I'm sure from a marketing standpoint that it was a great idea to intertwine the song so deeply with the movie and the music video in the days where MTV was new and everything was experimental, but I think in the long term that's really hurt the longevity of the song and made most people not take it very seriously going on 40 years later.

... and the fact this thread started with two Pentatonix songs.

I always felt that Pentatonix kind of got a raw deal. On one hand, if it weren't for YouTube and social media, it's a pretty good chance that nobody would have even heard of them. But on the other, I don't think they're ever going to really get the recognition they deserve.

They seem to be happy enough with how things have gone for them though. I'm fairly confident that if they are good stewards of their money that they shouldn't have any worries for the rest of their lives.

I bet you were right around my babysitter's and her friend's ages at the time. Had a lot of fun back in those days. I remember wrestling with one of her boyfriends in our backyard one day. Still remember his name because it was my name and I thought that was awesome. Cool dude. Never saw him again after one of us said something to our mom about him and my mom chewed the babysitter's butt out for having a boyfriend over while she was babysitting.

I remember not even realizing why any of that happened. Funny all the things you don't understand when you're that age. Learned pretty early on not to tell my mom nothin' about nothin' though.

Yeah I was thinking about Pentatonix listening to "Don't Worry Be Happy". It's an incredibly full sound for one guy singing. That's where Pentatonix had an advantage tho: they had a good bass singer.

Your song "Exs and Ohs" had that female-anthem-rock thing going, which reminded me of Lauper.

We used to have a blast watching it on the tv. Me cheering for one guy and my friend for another. Her boyfriend just looking at us like we were crazy. Good fun.

I love "Don't Worry". The video is good too with Robin Williams in it.

It was a period during the 80s when WWF as it was known then hooked up with Cyndi Lauper and promoted her music and she would promote the wrestling. She was part of the good guys side working against the bad guys. Guys like in the video Nikolai Volkoff and the Iron Sheik (bad guys). That video also featured Captain Lou Albano(good guy), who was a former wrestler turned manager. During Wrestlemania 3, I do believe she came to down to ring side with one of the women wrestlers with her match. A couple of albums were made featuring some of the wrestlers singing and stuff. I'll see if I can dig up a couple of the videos later. It was all in fun. They even had Alice Cooper one time. Don't remember now if it was a big card or just a tv show.

Should mention that Jimmy Hart was in a band back in the day. He's the guy with the sunglasses and the musical notes on his jacket. So, they used his music connections to make these videos and such. Also the girl in the black wig in the second video is Cyndi Lauper.

I think I have no favorite I only know what I hate
I will listen to most stuff, however I get bored with pop, hate rap might have tolerated it a long time ago, no longer listen to that noisy punk sound or once listend to heavy rock now more or less hate the sound the loud shouting hate heavy metal that ruins an interesting guitar solo.

sometimes I am pleasantly surprised or find something new to enjoy or some old song I missed to experience for the first time, looking at the old Music II thread on fireflyfans, I like oldies. When people learned the craft and skill of an old instrument before music became square and standardized and electronic, that's not to say I'm against electronic music sometimes it can be done very well, maybe I prefer world music or jazz or classical now. Someone else mentioned 'Tunguska Electronic Music' the Canons & Bells came up after people chatted about the bangs and sounds of fireworks on the 4th

https://www.bitchute.com/video/DhGk5wBtTPT8/

not sure if it qualifies as a 'song' since it doesnt have a human singing voice
and no flying songbird singing

it is a great composition, takes a while to get going
big 4 min build up

Yeah. I get the feeling that most of their stuff is sad or at least pretty emotional. It looks like their most famous song by far is called "The Funeral". That one hasn't grabbed me like "No One's Going to Love You" or "Warning Signs" though.

Doing a little more research, that isn't their official video for "No One's Going To Love You." It looks like that was a fan made video by two kids that were in high school at the time. Really impressive, IMO. The official video is just them singing it at various live events, which to me is a lot more boring to watch.

It also turns out I've heard it once before. It was in an early-ish episode of the TV show Chuck, which I started watching somewhere around 2010... So that one has probably floated around in the back of my head for 12 years now.

Oh. That's cool. Guess the kids who made that video were Canadian.

It's real cool that Band of Horses just let them keep the video up there and didn't copyright claim it.

I posted the lyric version of "Warning Signs" above. Here's the official video. They must have finally gotten money to budget for a real one. It doesn't look like it would have been too expensive to make, but boy did they do a good job on it.

Even this song is a little odd. Not sure much of their stuff would grab me but I might still look them up for fun.

I didn't watch "Chuck" all the way through. So I have no idea.

The kids must have been. Granville street sign in one of the first shots and that is a main street in downtown Vancouver. The underground skytrain stop the girl got on, I think I have used at least once in the past. Some of the skytrain runs underground specially in Vancouver and the rest is elevated once you get out of downtown. The graveyard would have been one in Vancouver too.

It is good that the band was good to the kids. They must really like their music to do all that work and work that is done really well.

I watched it and no not expensive to make. Money for music videos is important today.
