Maybe the "inspirational" young women and minorities that he hired instead didn't show up on Juneteenth for work and that's why he is dying or already dead along with 4 other rich people as he tried and failed to pilot one of his submarines with a 13 year old Logitech game controller.

Don't punish Logitech. They make good 3rd party controllers for reasonable prices. Anybody who'd every played video games knows that controllers eventually break, but at least they're not on the set of They Abyss when it happens. It should be reasonably assumed that you don't use a controller to pilot a submarine, especially not a third party controller that came off the assembly line during Obama's first term. None of this is Logitech's fault. I'm sure they didn't have a fortune teller on staff who could have predicted they needed to add a warning label not to do something this stupid.

Besides. It could have been the batteries that failed. Maybe we can find a receipt and see if they were at least Duracell or Energizer and he didn't try to save a few bucks by picking up the SunBeams at the Dollar Tree when he was getting snacks for the ride.

Working diligently to ensure nobody qualified gets hired.

"We can train anybody" - even lazy gamer slobs not even capable of mathing High School, let alone Navy Math.

Although not qualified for Darwin Award ( has surviving son and daughter), The pure spectacle of this deserves Honorable Mention for Darwin Award - has anybody been more spectacular in their feat?

Here's an email exchange between OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush and Submersible Operations expert Rob McCallum.

... you are wanting to use a prototype un-classed technology in a very hostile place. As much as I appreciate entrepreneurship and innovation, you are potentially putting an entire industry at risk.

I know that our engineering focused, innovative approach (as opposed to an existing standards compliance focused design process) flies in the face of the submersible orthodoxy, but that is the nature of innovation.
I have grown tired of industry players who try to use a safety argument to stop innovation and new entrants from entering their small existing market. Since Guillermo and I started OceanGate we have heard the baseless cries of "you are going to kill someone" way too often. I take this as a serious personal insult.

I think you are potentially placing yourself and your clients in a dangerous dynamic. Ironically, in your race to Titanic you are mirroring that famous catch cry “she is unsinkable”. Having dived the Titanic, and having stood in a Coroners Court as a technical expert, it would be remiss of me not to bring this to your attention.

Lazy reflection:

Are not human remains buoyant?

Reports have been made of human remains found at the bottom of the ocena, with the Titan wreckage.
At least one report indicatd Titan attempted to reach the surface before it imploded - suggesting remains would have been near the surfce, and then sand to the bottom.

What am I missing?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I think it depends. My guess, from experience and watching TV detective shows, is that intact humans are usually buoyant bc of air in lungs and fat. But then when lungs get filled with water often sink. Rise again when bacteria in the gut produce gas. Eventually sink when that process stops.

Chopped up human remains generally sink. Drop a piece of meat or bone in water and it sinks, right?
