The BIG task was dusting, since I haven't done it in a couple of months and there was a gross layer of dust everywhere. I used a bucket of water with some rubbing alcohol, a few drops of dish detetgent and a sponge since no way was a dust rag gonna work, especially near the kitchen where everything is a little oily.

Plus I did more than usual including the tops of window frames, door frames, doors and windowsills. Not quite a spring cleaning but very thorough! So three bucket changes and 2.5 hours later, the house is cleaner!

Cool down tomorrow, and a few days of yardwork ahead.

Have you figured out the wonders of the microfiber rag yet?

I've had a dozen of those things lying around that I got for free after rebate years ago.

I used to use wipes, and before that I would use a spray bottle and paper towels to wipe down dust off of things. I know there was a non-feather feather duster in the mix at one point, and a swiffer thing with expensive replacement pads too. I figured there had to be an easier way to do it, so I youtubed it. Those rags are amazing. Just work your way down from the top to the bottom, then hit everything with a vacuum and you're done. Wash the rags and you're ready for next time. So much wasted time and/or living with dust all my life because I didn't know the right way to do the job.

--------------------------------------------------

How you do anything is how you do everything.

Oh, trust me, SIX, I would have gone thru about a dozen microfiber rags. If I don't let the dust build up they'd work fine, but this was not that situation! (Hubby does have some in the garage.)

Meanwhile, I sprayed the weeds between the curb and the bender board and between the front walkway pavers. I'll probably have to re-spray the Bermuda grass since it's so gorram persistent!

Will be talking with someone about a battery backup for our solar. Just in case of earthquake.

Nah... I am the dust king. Especially with the winter and the furnace being on.

There's a technique to it for sure. Unlike a feather duster that everyone uses wrong because of how they've seen french maids use them in movies because it's cute, you just go from top to bottom, and one side to the other. If you knock dust off onto the floor while you're doing it, that's why you vac it all up at the end. My rags aren't as large as hers were, so I only get 4 surfaces off of it instead of 8, but you fold the thing in squares or at least in half and when one surface is too dirty you can switch to another surface. My dozen rags are really like having 48 rags when used that way, and I only needed 3 of them for my livingroom and kitchen.

Besides, you don't have to be perfect the first time. And if you get to it sooner the next time you'll get the rest. It really is so quick that you probably will do it more often.

My only problem is that I don't want to use the same ones for the bathroom. I should get a few that are a different color for that task. Wiping down the bathroom is still a massive chore.

I overscheduled myself, again. But I got a lot of things done, and a lot of things got done. I hired that crew that cleaned up the front yard to clean up part of the backyard and they did a great job. Spoke with the ppl who have the battery backup ... boy, it's not any cheaper than it was when we last lookd at it five years ago! But there is a better battery out there, instead of the lithium-coblat battery currently available in the Tesla power wall, there's a lithium-iron-phosphate battery that's a lot more stable and takes a lot more cycles. Cost-wise probably not practical, but maybe if we get a generator we can limp thru the night and get the solar cells going each morning. Because, ironically, if they don't get SOME voltage from SOMEwhere, they can't generate electricity!

Spoke with our insurance people about some insurance upgrades, and tomorrow I'm taking puppy-wuppy in for her shots and a general exam bc she hasn't had one in a while.

After that ... back to yardwork for a few days, chipping away at it an hour or two in the AM when the temps aren't higher than 89-90. And when they are, back to indoor work. I have some things to get rid of in the way of decluttering and still filing etc to do, so it's not like I'm going to run out any time soon!

Whew! I think I can relax a bit! Nothing on the calendar for a couple of weeks so I can just concentrate on what comes to hand and not get derailed by all of these other issues.

Tomorrow I'm going to cut down the volunteer lantana. I'm very glad it planted itself and spread so well, it's quite butterfly friendly, overall pretty, and smothers weeds like crazy. Unfortunately it's on a hump of dirt that'll need to be dug down, so I'm going to try to preserve a half-dozen plants in pots to re-plant when everything is graded and smoothed out.

Thanks and yes certain things can trigger them. It could be just random but as I said I am going to be a bit more mindful of what I am doing with my computer for a bit.

There's nothing outside of limit my card playing and mah jong playing on the computer. Too much flashing and blinking of the cards and pieces. TV is okay as I am not watching any sci-fi. Just random regular tv shows and movies from the library. Of course the usual as well with keeping up with my meds.

I know that I wasn't gone very long and I came back as the light was changing but I was a little confused by when it had changed. That's normal.

Got the old fridge and the stove out of my garage and out of my life. I was going to turn in the fridge for a $50 credit with the power company, but the process was ridiculous and I'd have to wait a few weeks for them to show up within a 4 hour window, like I'm just going to sit around all day long for some dudes with a truck to show up and verify it's working. Both of them were gone almost right away, so hopefully somebody is going to use them and they didn't just get scrapped.

That freed up some room to put my 3rd garbage bin in the garage, so I was able to make a spot for 2 chairs and a table on the slab outside of my porch. I won't be smoking out in the snow during the winter, but even with my exhaust fans in the porch I don't feel like smoking in my nice finished porch anymore. I knew that was going to happen.

I need to figure out what my next move is going to be. Lots of projects still to get done, but which one do I start on next?

Until 4 days ago, my numbers have been higher than they were overall with an average of 133mg/dL over 2 weeks. I think that's mainly because I haven't been very active while in my funk. Even the days where I'd mow the lawn and it would usually bring them down weren't behaving as normal, but I think that's somewhat accumulative and if I'm not active everyday and I'm taking naps in the afternoon my numbers are just going to stay higher. That being said, even with 2-3 weeks of "bad behavior" on several fronts, that average never went above 133 and that's still 21mg/dL below what I'm supposed to be at or below, with about 90% in range, 7% high and 3% low.

I was taking a bit more rapid during that time though. Up to as many as 3 shots per day, including the one that I take every morning with my long active. The biggest one would be the morning shot which got up to 8 or 9 units when I was waking up to anywhere between 170 and over 200 (at 200 or over the device would actually wake me up beeping). I don't dare take nearly that many units later in the day though, regardless of how high my numbers are or how many carbs I intend to eat, because between about 1PM and Midnight my numbers are naturally going down even when not super active and that many units could plunge me to unsafe lows. So my 2nd and not as common 3rd shots would be in the area of only 4 to 6 units.

But right now, this will be my 3rd day in a row without taking any rapid insulin. Not even my morning shot.

2 days ago I woke up to 133mg/dL and I skipped it, and never needed to take one. Yesterday I woke up to 120mg/lL. This morning I woke up to 115mg/dL.

I'm probably close to around 90 hours now without taking any rapid at all.

My daily average for the last two days was 108mg/dL and 105mg/dL.

I haven't eaten a lot the last 3 days, but I'm maintaining my weight. The only time I've been eating carbs is when I drop to the 70's (or the 80's if I'm actually hungry and feel it's time). This keeps me spiking to only around 130 to 145 for a short period when I wait to go that low. Depending on the time of day/evening it doesn't even get that high. Last night at 9PM I had 23 carbs when I got to the mid-70's and I didn't get over 95 before coming right back down about 20points and then slowly leveling back off in the high 80s, when I didn't have any more carbs for the night. I've been eating eggs and chicken more at night and cutting out the carbs. I got some tuna and I'm going to throw that in the mix several times a week.

I've probably only had about 80 grams of carbs per day the last 3 days, but if I'm not working hard all day that's all I need. If I can manage to adjust my eating everyday based off of my level of activity, I should be able to keep these numbers down good. That continuous meter is a great tool.

Well... It's hit or miss. Like I said, there's been about 3 weeks now where I was doing pretty much everything wrong. In a funk... Not working on projects. Letting the lawn go too long. Napping in the afternoon after a full night of sleep. Eating more carbs than I should be when I'm not working for it. Etc... Yanno... Winter behavior.

But because I don't have weaknesses for things like ice cream and candy and soda, it's really not that bad. I didn't like that I was shooting up rapid insulin up to 3 times per day, but my prescription says "take 7-10 units 3 times per day" and even at my worst I was never taking that much.

I do have a weakness for peanuts though. When I'm working that's fine, but when I'm not, I can't be eating as much as I do. I can resist the cereal and I only use that to bump my numbers up when I'm low, but if I have peanuts on hand I can't stop myself with them and can easily eat an entire bottle in a day.

I ran out of them a few days ago and have plenty of other food on hand so it's been easy to manage otherwise.

Right now with an hour left I've averaged 101mg/dL the entire day which is practically healthy people numbers. I won't end it that low since I just had to eat a half cup of cinnamon and oats cheerios because I dropped down to 71 and that's going to give me a spike before midnight, but this is my 3rd day in a row without any rapid and the average for all 3 days is 105mg/dL.

I was wrong...

My spike wasn't very dramatic and peaked about about 120. There was still enough time lower than that before midnight where my daily average for the entire day was 101mg/dL.

New best day ever without any rapid in going on 4 days now.

If I got the pump along with the CGM, I could probably safely have my daily average in the 90's simply by eliminating the nighttime highs with a unit here or there to keep me around 90 to 100 overnight and I didn't have those 4 or 5 hours where I'm higher than I am during the day.

Yeah, but "doing pretty much everything wrong" you still managed to keep it under control. If that's "wrong' more diabetics should be as "wrong" as you.

Yeah.

My average has actually raised 2 points so far today. My numbers were so good last night and have hung on a little longer than usual because I stayed up/slept in so late. So my average today is now at 93mg/dL, up from 91.

I'm interested in seeing what it will end up as once the day is over.

I think I may have come up with a fix for the whole peanut thing. As much as I love peanuts, I love almost any other nut more than peanuts. I just don't buy them because of how expensive they are.

Maybe that's the trick...

Maybe I should buy a big bottle of cashews. At those prices, there's no way I'd gorge on them like I do peanuts. Not that peanuts are cheap in current year, but they're not expensive enough to keep me from eating a bottle in a day if I have them on hand. But I'm pretty sure the expense of good nuts would overrule my weakness.

Maybe not, but it's worth a try anyhow. If I spend the money and gorge on them I'm only out the money for the one container and I won't do that again.

I don't expect to repeat that very often because that's just about as perfect as you can get. I wonder how many Type 1 diabetics ever get an average daily number that low... especially without an insulin pump.

I had room to improve it though. The only reason that it ended up that high is because I had decided I wanted a bag of vegetables with my chicken breasts, and I'd already just eaten a half cup of my cinnamon and oats cheerios when I got down to the 70's and I didn't space them out much. That got me to peak at 145 and it slowly came down for a few hours before getting back down to the 90s.

Had I planned eating that about 30 minutes prior instead of having the half cup of cereal, I'd probably be sitting with about a 90mg/dL average yesterday.

*****

Personally, been in a bit of a funk myself for about the past week or so. I have m,ajor project staring me in the face, still. I think I kinda burned myself out a bit pushing on a bunch of home administration things... insurance, major data breach hitting our info, unuthorized credit card use that I had to cancel and then re-set all of our accounts, plus I still have paper filing to do and to create a unified list of contacts for hubby and daughter to use if I'm not around, since I've been taking care of all of that!

Plus, there's the yardwork and re-landscaping, which is a series of projects large and small, which is intimidating me, again. When I didn't have the weather I had the time, when I had the weather I didn't have the motivation. But those projects aren't going away so whether or not I feel overwhelmed or inspired, I have to somehow get my rear in gear.

One GOOD thing happened, tho. I mentioned that we had a spare door which was just veneered MDF (cherry veneer, I think. But you know how cherry darkens with time so it almost looks like mahongany) It was a piece of crap that I've been urging hubby to toss. As you know, he decided to turn it into a table, so he got some redwood that he turned into legs and stretchers which, when oiled, turned into a cherry-like color, and he put the crappy-ass door on it and OMG!!!!! It's a beautiful work table that looks like a heirloom piece! It's not just the wood, the proportions are exactly what appeals to me! Legs not too thin, not too thick. Stretchers wide enough so that they're clearly visible, tabletop not overhanging too much or too little. It's a classic, somewhere between farmhouse and rustic. I have GOT to post a picture!

Yeah. But I knew it wouldn't last forever. My dumb numbers came down very late last night and so I had another half cup of the cereal before I dropped into dangerously low territory. I knew I shouldn't have done it... or at least I should have had less than a 1/2 cup. So I went to sleep and I was around 100. I woke up to 135 and it's climbed to the mid 140's and stuck there. It will go down in about an hour or two I'm sure, especially if I get off my ass and mow the lawn.

Not bad at all still since it's still 9pts under what my entire daily average should be, but it's certainly going to break my streak of average days between 97 and 110. Oh well... You can't win 'em all. I still didn't take any rapid and won't be.

Yeah. Just don't ask me anything about preventative maintenance.

I feel for you. I've spent a ton of time on paperwork and such this year that I don't normally have to invest with the whole tax issue and other things. The tax thing still isn't behind me because I won't sign that new deal until they lay out more specifics that will leave me satisfied that I'm in a position where they can't just do it all again next year. If they won't provide that, I'll be going to court over it in a few months. Yay!

I hear ya. At least where you live time is on your side. I'm running out of warm weather. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Sweet! Yeah. Post a picture.

I've got a table project myself that I'll be leaving for the winter. I got the ornate legs and some other parts from my Grandma's huge dining room table and a nice hard stone (possible marble? granite?) slab from my mom and step dad before they moved down south. I'm going to put together a small kitchen table with those pieces, and eventually one day I'll learn how to reapolster chairs and have two really nice chairs that match the table with the two end of table chairs for that set that had the arm rests on them. I don't have much space for a kitchen table, and that will be a huge upgrade from the crappy WalMart 2 seater table I used to have in the kitchen before I remodeled it. And I'll have a little piece of Grandma's house in there that I'm sure my dad and aunt are going to love seeing when it's all done.

Back from mah jong but no luck again. One lady had over 39,000 points then the next was over 11,000. My was only over 4, 000. But I did get winds and dragons twice. So that was nice. Not often I manage to do that.

39,000 points? I didn't think that was even possible. Must have been extraordinarily good luck. Next time, she should go to Vegas!

Well, I didn't do everything that I had planned today bc I got derailed into cleaning and tidying up (and getting the dining table prepped for artwork with dear daughter. I cut down some painters plastic "drop cloth" to fit and washed it bc it was dusty). While I was rummaging around I found the old evaporator from the frig... good metal to recycle... and a few things that needed disposing.

And since I hadn't done anything outside like I had planned, I decided to at least change the wiper blades bc one was broken. I see that washing The Chariot is going to be next on the list bc I have an appt next week and it's dusty, dusty, dusty! Fortunately I just bought another one of those microfiber-on-a-stick mitts that allow me to reach all the way to the middle, bc my old one just broke, too.

Well, I should have mentioned that was her total points for the morning. She had 1 really big hand which included 7 doubles. That was all 4 flowers of one colour and winds and dragons.

Don't think her and her husband will be heading down to the US much. She's got a heart condition and getting medical insurance for her is almost impossible because of it.

ETA: Big points like that are more than possible playing mah jong.

I'll be damned. I didn't break that streak.

107mg/dL for the day. Already got my 2 week average down to 119 from 133 just from the last 5 days without taking any rapid.

I can only imagine how good it can get when I'm actually working and doing stuff again.

I just got my low warning at 72, but this time I only had 1/4 cup of the cereal since I don't want the numbers rising too high before bed. Should only get up to 120 max tonight while I sleep... At least that's the theory anyway.

I'm back early for a change because they made a lunch date with their son and forgot that I was coming over. But it allowed me to get something done before I got in today. That's good. Having a sit down now. Temp is 80F for my area as of now.

Sometimes unexpected schedule changes can be very fortunate!

****

Well, I tweaked my schedule a bit and explained it to hubby, and why I'm doing what I'm doing. I think doing all my "kitchen work" and daily chores in the AM (dog walk, dishes, b'fast, dinner prep) will free up more of my afternoon so I can plan on doing longer projects then. Plus, it lines up with the rest of the family better. So far, it feels more comfortable and I feel more focused. I'll see how it goes.
