Agreements between China and the USA

Quote:

The first communiqué (February 28, 1972), known as the Shanghai Communiqué, summarizes the landmark dialogue begun by President Richard Nixon and Premier Zhou Enlai during February 1972. Some of the issues addressed in this communiqué include the two sides' views on Vietnam, the Korean Peninsula, India and Pakistan and the Kashmir region, and perhaps most importantly, the Taiwan (Republic of China) issue (i.e., Taiwan's political status). Essentially, both sides agreed to respect each other's national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States formally acknowledged that "all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China" and that the "United States Government does not challenge that position", and that it "reaffirms its interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question by the Chinese themselves".[2]

The second communiqué (January 1, 1979), the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, formally announces the commencement of normal relations between the United States and the People's Republic of China. In so doing, the United States recognized that the government of the People's Republic of China was the sole legal government of China, and acknowledged the PRC's position that Taiwan is part of China.[3] In addition, the United States government declared that it would end formal political relations with the Republic of China ("Taiwan") while preserving economic and cultural ties. Both sides reaffirmed their wish to reduce the risk of international conflict as well as avoidance of hegemony of any nation in the Asia-Pacific region.

The third communiqué (August 17, 1982), also known as the August 17th communiqué,[4] reaffirms the desire of both sides to further strengthen economic, cultural, educational, scientific, and technological ties. Both sides also reaffirmed the statements made about the Taiwan issue in the previous communiqué. Although no definitive conclusions were reached on the issue of arms sale to Taiwan, the United States declared its intent to continue selling arms to Taiwan and to gradually change its level of arms sales consistent with the PRC's militarization of the Taiwan strait.

It's a product of post WW2

Nixon and the split between the Soviets and the Chinese

Before this Nationalism vs Communism, if the Nationalists won Beijing and Communists ran to China it would be Taiwan that would be seen as a type of 'enemy' and relations with the Mainland would have been better.

and hundreds of years before this
Taiwan seems to have had an Aboriginal culture with a tiny bit of Chinese or some Buddha guy from China or Emperor guy from China going on vacation long ago. An island with types of fish people living a basic life, the Taiwanese indigenous peoples, also old Formosans, Native Taiwanese, Austronesian Taiwanese or Gaoshan people. Then European powers in all their wisdom make it a Chinese colony and ethnically import thousands upon thousands of people from the South and South East of China to work in their mines lift stuff at the ports, the Dutch, the British, the Portuguese, back in the 1600s moving Chinese people into Taiwan, Europe made it Chinese, back then Taiwan but made by Chinaman. It wasn't awlays easy for Dutch Empires, the guys of Netherlands Holland making money, there was siege of the Fort, they promptly dismantled the Dutch colony, expelled the Dutch and established the Ming loyalist, anti-Qing Kingdom of Tungning. In 1874, Japan invades indigenous Taiwan territory in southern Taiwan in what is known as the Mudan Incident. Takasago volunteers were volunteer soldiers in the Imperial Japanese Army, recruited from Taiwanese indigenous peoples a period of More wars WW1 and then WW2 and Imperial Japan allied with Italy and Adolf Hitler for a while, they set up companies and a lot of the big company working in the background hidden in Taiwan are still Japan family. Taiwanese indigenous peoples still today will sometimes protest Japan War Crimes that were never recorded.
Well perhaps on the other side of all this, you get other fools like random Ruskies unsure if Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska or Cuba or California or Texas should ever be part of the USA.

What is your point? Your post favors my position regarding China and Taiwan. We acknowledge China claims Taiwan is a part of China. In clearer words, the United States recognizes China is one country, but we don't agree that Taiwan is a part of that country.

Again, you post nothing more than a word salad. You don't even stake out a position. You just cut and paste shit you clearly don't understand.

T

To this day, the U.S. “one China” position stands: the United States recognizes the PRC as the sole legal government of China but only acknowledges the Chinese position that Taiwan is part of China.

HONG KONG—China is sinking deeper into its worst deflation in years, spelling trouble for the whole world as demand falters in its second-largest economy.

With many Chinese worried about the economic outlook and unwilling to spend, consumer prices fell for a third straight month in December, official data showed Friday. Prices charged by manufacturers dropped for the 15th month in a row.

Economists at Morgan Stanley described the situation as the “longest and deepest” deflation in China since the Asian financial crisis in 1998, when countries across the region overheated and entered recessions that took years to recover from.

Until recently, many Western economists had welcomed some deflation in China, because it lowered the cost of imported Chinese goods, helping to ease inflationary pressures elsewhere. Inflation in the U.S. cooled through most of 2023, though it edged up some in December.

But as inflation worries have eased in the West, China’s deflation has become a bigger source of concern. It signals continuing economic distress in China, which could mean weaker sales for Western brands that do business there.

It also augurs more efforts by Chinese companies to unload excess goods elsewhere, competing with Western companies and exacerbating trade tensions, which are already high.

The European Union last fall accused China of flooding the market with cheap electric vehicles and launched an investigation into the role of state subsidies from China. Companies in other industries, including solar power, have raised similar concerns.

“Persistent deflation or very low inflation in China could contribute to a higher trade surplus and more trade frictions with the rest of the world,” said Adam Wolfe, emerging-markets economist at Absolute Strategy Research.

All of that is adding urgency for Beijing to increase efforts to reverse falling prices and revive growth. One worry is that without more forceful stimulus, China’s economy could fall into a debt-deflation spiral like Japan did in the 1990s, when falling prices prompted companies to cut wages and consumers to hold off on purchases, creating a vicious cycle of even weaker demand and more deflation.

“The size and speed of stimulus policy matters” in China, said Robin Xing, chief

China is disposing of its surpluses with lower prices to stay afloat. It won't last.

Price Wars Help Spark $157 Billion Rout in China Consumer Stocks

From electric vehicles to fast food, companies are engaging in a battle of promotions aimed at luring customers who are spooked by dim job prospects and have seen a persistent property slump hurt wealth creation. Consumer prices fell for a third-straight month in December, the longest streak since 2009, deepening concerns about companies’ profits and share prices.

“That’s all symbolic of a very weak consumption environment that includes lack of consumer confidence and weak income growth,” said Xin-Yao Ng, an investment director for Asian equities at abrdn. “We are cautious on 4Q earnings across most sectors, and would assume that continues in 1Q unless the government starts doing something massive to support the economy.”

China Deals Major Blow to Russian Economy

China's state-owned banks are tightening curbs on funding to Russian clients as they fear being subjected to secondary sanctions from the U.S., according to a Tuesday report by Bloomberg.

At least two banks have ordered a review of their Russian businesses in recent weeks and plan to sever ties with clients on the U.S. sanction list. The banks will also stop providing financial services to the Russian military sector, according to sources familiar with the matter, and review companies including non-Russian clients doing business in Russia or sending critical goods to Russia through a third country.

China's Stock Market Gutted by Brutal Loss of More Than $6 Trillion

For those of you who pay attention to China's stock market, you may have noticed that it's getting battered as of late -- with $6.3 trillion U.S. in losses and indices hitting five-year lows.

If stock-watchers in Beijing think this is bad, however, they ought to be warned: It could be just a taste of what's to come.

Did Japan's Market just lose 6 trillion US, with some suggesting this may just be a taste of things to come? I don't think so comrade.

That said, Japan has been preparing for this. They may weather the storm better. Much of the world is in big trouble for many of the same reasons China is. The worlds economies are going to drastically change. Russia is fucked and watch trade between the rest of Asia, Mexico and America increase.

The US is best positioned going forward then the rest of the world. I've posted videos of how and why this is.

Partnership (CPTPP)
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is a free trade agreement (FTA) between Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam.

The CPTPP was signed by the 11 countries on 8 March 2018 in Santiago, Chile.

The CPTPP entered into force on 30 December 2018 for:

Australia
Canada
Japan
Mexico
New Zealand
Singapore
on 14 January 2019 for:

Vietnam
on 19 September 2021 for:

Peru
on 29 November 2022 for:

Malaysia
and on 21 February 2023 for:

Chile
and on 12 July 2023 for:

Brunei Darussalam

This Agreement is a separate treaty that incorporates, by reference, the provisions of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement (signed but not yet in force), with the exception of a limited set of suspended provisions. The 11 countries have a shared vision of the CPTPP as a platform that is open to others to join if they are able to meet its high standards.

Importantly for Australia, the CPTPP ensures that the substantial market access package secured in the original TPP is maintained (i.e. covering goods and services market openings and commitments on regulations on foreign investment). This market access package will be implemented among the CPTPP Parties, delivering major new opportunities for Australian exporters, investors and firms engaged in international business. The CPTPP maintains the ambitious scope and high quality standards and rules of the original TPP.

China Backs Russia After Putin Warns West They'll Regret Crossing 'Red Line'

Amid growing tensions between the United States and Russia, China threw its support behind Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the two nations "comprehensive strategic partners of coordination in the new era."

And now along with Russia, they're dying.

T

2024 is the year of the incredible shrinking China.

The country's growth has been treated like an inevitability for decades. Everything was getting bigger — its cultural influence, geopolitical ambition, population — and seemed poised to continue until the world was remade in China's image. The foundation for this inexorable rise was its booming economy, which allowed Beijing to throw its might around in other areas. But now China's economy is withering, and the future Beijing imagined is being cut down to size along with it.

The clearest sign of this diminishment is China's worsening deflation problem. While Americans are worried about inflation, or prices rising too fast, policymakers in Beijing are fretting because prices are falling. The consumer price index has declined for the past three months, the longest deflationary streak since 2009. In the race for global economic supremacy, deflation is an albatross around Beijing's neck. It's a sign that the Chinese economic model has well and truly run out of juice and that a painful restructuring is required. But beyond the financial problems, the sinking prices are a sign of a deeper malaise gripping the Chinese people.

"China's deflation is the deflation of hope, the deflation of optimism. It's a psychological funk," Minxin Pei, a professor of political science at Claremont McKenna College, told me.

The fallout won't be contained to China's shores. Because the country's growth sent money stampeding around the globe over the past few decades, its contractions are creating a seesaw effect in global markets. The foreign investors who helped to power China's rise are running to avoid catching the funk on their balance sheets, and governments the world over are starting to question the narrative of China, the dauphin. China's economy branded a 'time bomb about to explode' in fresh warning

The Chinese economy has been labelled a “time bomb” as the country faces a growing demographic crisis, an expert has said.

The “stark realities” of an aging population and soaring youth unemployment have left China’s citizens unimpressed and passively resistant, said Matthew Henderson, an associate fellow at the Council on Geostrategy.

China Selloff Leads to Record $38 Trillion Gap With US Stocks

(Bloomberg) -- The value of China’s stock market has never been this far behind that of the US, as the losses continue to pile up in a seemingly relentless equity rout.

China's Property Boom Goes Bust

A Hong Kong court on Monday ordered Evergrande Group to liquidate its assets, spelling the end to a two-year saga that made Evergrande the poster company for China's real estate crisis.

The news sent the company's stock plunging by over 20 percent in Hong Kong that morning before it was suspended from trading.

However, it now remains to be seen whether legal authorities in mainland China will stand by their Hong Kong counterpart's decision and "make good on foreign creditors." Magnus called this "unlikely."

China will "probably try to keep the company in zombie mode until it can be quietly absorbed into something else," he said.

China's economic crisis takes huge turn for the worse as inflation drops at fastest pace in 14 years

The decline was worse than economists’ expectations for a 0.5 per cent drop.

Despite China enforcing measures such as releasing long-term cash for banks and issuing more government bonds to fund construction projects, confidence in the world’s second-largest economy has flagged.

Global Investors Flee China: Germany Shifts Focus to U.S. Amid Economic Concerns

On the 20th, the Chinese government’s significant reduction in the benchmark interest rate, known as the Loan Prime Rate (LPR), is believed to be influenced by the fierce “exodus from China” by global investors.

According to the Financial Times (FT) and others, the departure from China by foreign investors is more severe than ever in China, where economic slowdowns and conflict with the United States overlap. Citing its database, FDI Markets, the FT reported that Germany, China’s largest trading partner, reduced its investment in China last year and significantly increased its investment in the United States. According to statistics, German companies invested $15.7 billion in U.S. projects last year, while the total amount of investment committed in China was only $5.9 billion. U.S. investment is nearly three times that of China. Although investment in China increased by almost 40% compared to the previous year, investment in the United States almost doubled from $8.2 billion the last year. The FT reported, “The United States, by offering promises of economic growth and favorable tax benefits, is attracting German companies, which are struggling as their economic situation worsens not only in their domestic (German) market but also in China, their largest trading partner.”

Guess what? China’s grand economic revival everyone’s been yapping about? Not happening.

Economists, those guys who enjoy making predictions as much as we love ignoring them, had a peek into the crystal ball and saw retail sales and industrial output growth slowing down from December’s numbers. The real estate sector, in particular, isn’t just in a slump; it’s in a freefall without a parachute, making any hopes of a significant turnaround more fantasy than reality.

Since all governments eventually collapse I suppose you could be right. But it might be long after YOUR clock stops ticking. And since they haven't collapsed YET, it's a little too early to call this one.

China IMHO has made, and continues to make, some pretty bone-headed moves. I could go on about the things they do that look stupid to me:

Depending on western markets and exports in general to underpin your economy (markets can collapse)
Investing in grandiose "mega projects" like the Three Gorges Dam, and Belt & Road, which may never pay off
Jumping on the latest speculative projects (EV, green technology)
Allowing various bubbles to bouy up local government finances
etc

But they HAVE lifted close to a trillion people out of extreme poverty so credit where credit is due. Standard of living in China is generally rising, not falling (western standard of living is falling), and IMHO I don't mind if speculative/ paper wealth evaporates. And I suspect the Chinese government doesn't mind either.

You post a lot of stuff. You've got endless tick tock threads that have all lead to nothing.

Maybe I'll start a Tick Tock to the Nibiroo Apocalypse thread and that would come true before any of your predictions do.

China's not going anywhere.

And even if it were that's bad news for us. As bad as prices for everything are today they'd be ten times as bad if we weren't getting a bunch of cheap shit from them.

Look how much McDonald's costs now that we're paying employees $20/hr.

What do you think is going to happen to the prices of computers or cell phones if we make them all in house here instead of importing them from places like China?

Do you remember the days of paying $2,000 for a 33mhz computer when we still made everything? That was over 30 years ago now, so with inflation it would have been over $5,000 today.

You think your iPhone is expensive now? Just wait until you don't have 12 year olds building them for $2.00 per day in a Chinese warehouse with nets wrapped around them to keep people from jumping out the window and putting an end to their miserable lives so you can get an updated phone every 2 years.
