The outages warning was mostly for the Island, so I should be alright.

Glad you're back home safe and warm.

Also glad you're getting some much needed rain. I hope you get enough, but not too much all at once.

Yeah, I was. Had to change my pants as the cuffs and my socks were a little wet.

The rain we need but this is the first big storm of the winter for us. My province got a good soaking. Cities around mine flooded. Heavy water on the roads that people's cars got stuck. So far no word of major damage like power outages or anything like that.

I keep getting my thyroid med mixed up with the seizure med I am taking. They are both small and white, so early in the morning I think I am taking my thyroid med and really I am taking one of the new seizure meds. Gotta figure out a remedy for that.

All done for today.

Flipside ran into my landlady from the really crappy place I was living in before I moved here. Anyways she tapped me on the shoulder as I was looking at something and kept calling me, "Teddy". Now, mind she could never remember my name while I was living there so I ignored her but she kept tapping. Turned around and she asked if I remember her and of course I do. I said hello and she asked me where I was living and I just gave her the street as she doesn't need to know anything else. Then she asked me if I was alright and I said yes to which she said good bye. No freaking but every time I run into her I get the feeling that she wants me to move back, which would be a biiig mistake. I was cold which led me to getting really sick one winter, the floor was starting to slant as that house wasn't built to have two suites put into it. Not to mention the spiders which luckily I didn't bring any to this place. Also my legs won't take walking up and down those hills around there. I can still every so often feel the shin splints that happened because of those hills.

Yeah, it sounds like she wants you back

I remember how miserable you were there. IIRC not it was it cold and damp, there wasn't enough room, it didn't have enough outlets, and I'm under the impression it had no windows.

I was concerned, and was very glad when you moved. Your new place seems safer, more comfortable, and overall better.

Yeah.

You are correct. I couldn't unpack anything except small stuff that I was going to use all the time. Had to use her Wifi signal and when they turned that off I had no internet. Nope there weren't enough outlets and it was expensive for even over 5 years ago rent wise. It had windows in the bedroom and a couple in the kitchen. I kept the blinds I think they were closed in the bedroom because I didn't like the level the bedroom was in relation to the next door house. They could see right in. And I pretty well always had to have a light on in the kitchen. Not enough natural light.

This building is much safer. There are security doors around here and the apartment doors are heavier. Even when my boss came over once and felt the apartment door, she said it was safer. Plus no more breaking my legs with getting to a laundry, going down and then back up hills with a cart for my laundry which included getting on and off buses.

I didn't realize that laundry was so difficult and dangerous.

Finding a new place and moving is such a big job. I don't know how you managed, but I'm glad you did. Neither of us are getting any younger!

*****

Looking for a new recipe for ground turkey, I decided to make albondigas (meatball) soup. It's usually made with ground beef. Aside from using turkey instead of beef made a few other changes: I had some pork broth from roasting, so I used that as well as water. Since ground turkey is pretty wet compared to beef, instead of using egg as a binder (which would have made it even sloppier) I used ground chia seed (a common vegan egg binder substitute). I used sushi rice bc that's what I have on hand. And because the turkey mixture was still pretty wet and would have fallen apart in the soup, I browned the meatballs a bit before adding them to the soup. I added just a few small slices of hot jalapeno. And I left out the spearmint bc last time I tried using it in a traditional Greek dish (spanakopita) people said it was like eating toothpaste. But overall it was traditional and people liked it.

Another recipe to add to my collection!

It was there as they wouldn't let me use their laundry room. So it was lug it out, do it and bring it back. Up and down hills was no fun or the buses. This building I just wonder if all the machines are going to be used.

I had some help. One lady I know spoke to the manager here and there was a vacant place, so the manager held it for me. And the mah jong group chipped in some money to help pay for the movers. Getting settled for me was the big job because I had to open every box and check things over, see what I needed then what could be donated.

Sounds like an okay recipe to me. Tonight I am having chicken with rice as well as getting beef stew on for the rest of the week, which will have potatoes and brussel sprouts and left over broccoli in it.

Back and done for today in the dry. Had a mix up last week with my pharmacy about a refill on the new seizure med. Wasn't their fault it was mine. My brain got mixed up. Got my refill and told that to the pharmacist and he said that's why they like to keep me on track."

Said I try to do that too but it doesn't always work.

As in I forgot to get toothpaste yesterday, good thing I remembered today.

All I managed to do yesterday above and beyond the regular chores was to give the LR and DR a quick vacuum (for such a little dog, she sheds a lot of fur!) and sort thru the mail basket, which has been sadly neglected. Not that I've figured out what to do with some of that stuff, but at least I tossed the recycling and pulled the stuff for my "to be filed" basket.

Lots of election flyers in there. I know who I'm going to vote for locally, but there are a lot of bond measures, judgeships etc. and if I'm gonna vote responsibly it'll take me a couple of days to work thru all of that.

Haven't been keeping up to date in the garden at all.

How you both doing?

Still plugging away at my project. Kind of working on a side project to the project right now, really, but I think I may have made a new friend. Some interesting developments. Nothing I can really talk about here, but things appear to be going well so far. I've really learned a lot of new skills in a short amount of time. Not really sure how I could really pivot them into things I'll make use of outside of this in the real world, but I'm enjoying what I'm working on a lot right now.

I went to "doc in a box" today (urgent care) bc on top of everything else, my throat was getting more and more sore over the past 5 days. It just wasn't heading in the right direction, and I couldn't imagine waiting until Monday.

Doc was all ready to say it was viral and send me off with throat spray, but fortunately they did a strep swab. He was vastly surprised when it came back positive!
So I have an Rx for penicillin.

By now, everyone in the house has been exposed. And dogs are asymptomatic carriers. What I would really like is a family Rx so we don't just keep bouncing in among ourselves. Hmm...

I'm sure glad I went!

So, how tall is it? I'm trying to picture it and it's not coming to mind. Is it a dresser with drawers? Or more like a wardrobe?

Doc was all ready to say it was viral and send me off with throat spray, but fortunately they did a strep swab. He was vastly surprised when it came back positive!
So I have an Rx for penicillin.

By now, everyone in the house has been exposed. And dogs are asymptomatic carriers. What I would really like is a family Rx so we don't just keep bouncing in among ourselves. Hmm...

I'm sure glad I went!

DId everyone else get sick too?

Strep is a bitch.

My dumb ass went 5 days with strep and a fever without getting it taken care of until I had to get my brother to take me to a clinic because by that time I wasn't even physically able to do it myself. I couldn't even eat anymore because it felt like I was swallowing razor blades just drinking down room temperature tap water. If my throat had closed another inch or so I probably wouldn't have been able to swallow anything... or breathe.

I think 25 year old me would have waited until I lost another 10 or 15 lbs before getting the Diabetes diagnosis. I've got to remember to thank him for all the great decisions he made when I finish building this time machine.

Its not as bad as your full-on strep bc I'm still on steroids. And since most of the pain from strep is caused by inflammation, and prednidone is a powerful anti inflammatory, the strep symptoms were muted. Maybe a third of what you had.

Nobody else has symptoms, but I'm gonna have to get the dog treated bc they can be asymptomatic carriers. I once read a case report of a family where individual family members kept getting strep. The doc eventually went to treating the whole fsmily bc he thought they were ping ponging it amongst themselves, but they finally traced it to the family's dog. Once the dog was treated the strep went away. That story really stuck with me!

Oh, that's good. I'm hoping that in actuality your symptoms are only about 1/10th of what I stupidly put myself through.

Let's just say I had two over-sized golf balls inside my throat, and trying my best to not be total gross-out here, they even kind of resembled golf balls... if they were the focus of an H.R. Geiger painting.

I asked the clinic if I should have those drained after I got my scrip. They told me it would go away eventually on its own but I could have had them drained for $400. Me today would have paid that. 25 year old me said no thanks and.... well I don't want to think about it anymore. Gross.

Wow... That's a crazy story. Makes me think of the ending of Denzel Washington's "Fallen" movie. (If you've never seen it, I give it a very high recommendation and now you have a reason to finally see it).

I was told by the nurse practitioner at the clinic that especially with a case as bad as mine I would very likely get strep quite a few more times in life and it could actually get bad enough where I need my tonsils removed. (I don't know how true any of that is, but I still keep it in mind 20 years later).

Since then I've had strep twice, and I caught it IMMEDIATELY. The next time I got it was only about 2 years later. I was at work (overnight) and started feeling it in my throat. At first there was nothing back there, but by the end of my shift I swore I could see just the faintest bit of white in the back. I drove up to the clinic after work as soon as they opened. The nurse practitioner came in and asked "What can I do for you today"? I said "I have strep throat and I need a scrip for Amox". She laughed and asked me if I minded if she did a swab and tested me first. I told her to knock herself out. She looked inside my mouth and wasn't convinced. But when she came back in with the results she said "I'll be damned. Let me write that scrip up for you. You do have strep throat".

The second event about 10 years ago was caught immediately as well.

I think I'm hyper-sensitive to it now. That's my super-power. Being able to tell when I have strep throat days before anybody else would figure it.

Couldn't have been super-strength or flying, huh? Just my luck.

Hope you didn't spread it and you recover quickly. You should be feeling better real soon now that you're treating it.

Back and done for today. Got another spot cleaned off, top of a bookcase that wasn't in as bad as shape as I thought. The placemats I put up there just need to be washed along with something else and can be donated.

yay!

Yup, but I still got 3 more spots to clean up and one is a tall dresser. Not sure even on my step stool I will be able to reach it properly.

That is a very tall dresser!

Glad you managed to avoid the rain and still had a beautiful day. Rain and a nice day anyway. What's not to like???

Thinking about it now. Yes, it would be called a wardrobe. The top part has a shelf in it and cupboard doors on it then 3 or 4 drawers below it. I inherited it from my Blair. But looking at it now it is rough shape and may need replacing. Got a sliver off one of the drawers this week. Didn't do much damage to my finger. And the backing is coming off of it. And it is a little taller than the bookcase I cleaned the top of the other day or so.

It sounds like it might be, or might have been, a useful piece of furniture. I like old- fashioned pieces like that. Too bad it's in bad shape.

If the frame and a lot of the parts (drawer slides, drawer parts, cupboard doors) are solid wood, if the joints are solid and the damage not too great it might be worth fixing. Especially if you like the way it looks and/ or has good memories attached. (I wouldn't expect the side and back panels to be solid wood, that would make the wardrobe too heavy) I tend to be sentimental about major items. Everything - cars, sofas, washing machines, etc. are owed many, many repairs, and when they're beyond repair I'm sad to see thrm go. But of course that's just me.

That is possible fixing it. It's nothing major really. It's just the back that's not solid. The sides are solid. I like the way it looks and I have some ornaments on it's top. Things I can't fit anywhere else. Like a large model of the Millenium Falcon.

You are talking to a person that has an over 100year old trunk, that belong to a grandfather that I never met. I can't let go of that because it was handed down to my dad by his mother. I have my grandmother's cookbooks and again that is my dad's mother. So, I do understand.
