Back to the grind today. Today it's just chores and yardwork. Tomorrow the handyman will come by and finish the irrigation manifold, yay! But that won't keep me from doing more yardwork.

Wednesday I have plans to go out for a late T-day/ B-day get together. Was supposed to be yesterday, but ... still recovering. So we thought Tuesday, but Tuesday Mr Handyman will be here. And, still recovering. By Wednesday I hope we'll be ready for a nice restaurant meal. Since I can't taste anything, the food doesn't matter. But I like to be out with people enjoying themselves.

Chicken wings and brussel sprouts is on the menu for tonight and there will be chicken wings left over for tomorrow.

I finished up my left overs of pork sausages yesterday with tomato sauce and some pasta.

Sun is out but it is getting cold out. Brrr.

I love chicken wings! Sounds tasty! Can I come over for dinner??

Brrr! Cold and snowy at my sis's. I asked her to send me a picture in case I'm tempted to complain about the weather.
Of course, if you want to get rid of cold, wet weather send it our way!

SIX, how's the weather there?

I went out with the idea I was gonna complete digging Bermuda grass out from the far corner of the lot. But I derailed myself by getting irked by the Bermuda grass growing out from under the front walkway. I started digging grass from under the edge of the pavers, and when I realized I was lifting them up, I just said "the hell with it" and just starting lifting them up all the way. I only managed to do five, and of course I have to go back and level them perfectly. In the meantime I put an orange caution cone on the loosened pavers, just in case.

Time to make dinner.

It's cold here but I haven't really noticed it. Been inside. Heat's still working, and it's going off quite a bit. Not going to get too mad about that since it's December.

Got it up to 65. Hopefully gas isn't costing us a fortune this year, but I'm done freezing in my own house. 65 probably isn't good enough for any guests outside of my old man, but it's plenty warm for me. Depending on the time of day and what I'm doing I've got to take my sweater off.

Hope you have a good time on Wednesday.

Slept very badly last night, and had to get up early to meet Mr Handyman. Still coughing, wheezing, and with a very stuffed nose. So by the time I made b'fast, did dishes, walked the dog, and gave hubby a haircut and beard trim, I was exhausted. Who would have thought holding my arms up to cut hair would be so tiring??

Fell asleep unintentionally, but wasn't covered up so that wasn't exactly a restful nap either!

Anyway, it's too late for yardwork. Gonna make dinner and find some quiet spot to be by myself. Not fit company for anyone.

Back and done for the day. Needed a bus to get from where I was back to my area. Too far for me to walk. Anyway saw a bus at the stop and thought maybe I will get it in time. Nope, when it rolled by its sign said, "Sorry. Not in service." Something must have broken down on it and the driver couldn't fix it. So, had to wait for the next one.

And yes buses all over the country do that.

Back and done had a dose of fog going to my Thursday morning mah jong game and that was terrible. No luck. Almost had winds and dragons 3 times but every time I couldn't get rid of one or two tiles. That was frustrating as was the fact it took me most of the morning to break 1,000points and I only did that because I managed to go out once. That hand had 500 points, so added to my total was just over 1,000points at that point.

I've been kind of out of whack, waiting for Dr Rheumatologist to get back to me about this treatment idea. On top of getting over the flu, thanks to chronic asthma I develop a long lasting cough and wheeze after upper respiratory infections. And then with allergies, I had such a raft of symptoms I worried that GPA may have gotten out of control. But since so many symptoms are the same, it's hard to tell.

So I haven't gotten as much done as I would have hoped.

But Dr Rheumatologist got back in touch with me (she had a flu too) and Rx'd azathioprine. So I finally started treatment. Not the infusion but a tablet that is used to keep GPA patients in remission. Since Im not 'in' remission this is an unusual application, but I can't take the usual treatment (methotrexate) bc my kidneys are slow.

Anyhow, it may take four weeks before I can tell if it's working, but it almost seems like it started working right away. Here's hoping it does what it's supposed to do... and more.

In box is fine. But yeah, had to answer one from my boss, one from a lady that used to come and look after my mum and I am still in contact with. She is having her own health issues right now. Thyroid problems. And I had to let the lady know who is helping me with my book about the rejection letter.

You are welcome. I had a tiny one at either the end of October or the beginning of November. Once again sat at my computer but instead of both hands flying off the keyboard it was just my right and I think I felt my pinky hit a wrong key then I came back. Didn't mess up anything this time thank goodness. So far that has been the only one since that was when I was starting the higher dosage. I'm at the full dosage now and combined with the Keppra. So far, so good.

Cold, Cold, Cold....

The weather site I used put a warning message that I'd never seen before saying something along the lines of "Be careful out there today. It's the coldest day in your area so far for 2024." (I checked them again just now to get the exact verbiage, but it's not up there anymore).

I didn't have anywhere to go though, so I didn't really notice it. Even put a space heater up in my attic so I don't freeze when it's time for a smoke break.

Warms up tomorrow leading up to a much warmer if not entirely wet weekend. After that, if nothing changes, we shouldn't be having any ridiculous cold spells again for at least a little while. In fact, right now anyway, I don't see any days where the high dips into the 20's until the first week of January.

Fingers crossed.

I think the English language is awesome. It's borrowed so many words from so many languages, there are so many shades of meaning.

Run. Bolt. Sprint. Scarper. Race. Dash....

If you can't find the exact right word, you're not trying.

The grammar, compared to German, French, and Spanish, is easy.

But the SPELLING!!

The spelling depends on where you are. In Canada we left the "u" in colour while in the US, you took it out and other things like that. I typed in the Canadian way of spelling "colour" and get a red line under it to correct it. I don't bother.

Back and done. Got rained on. Also had to get compression stockings too day. This has been coming for years from the 3 or 4 times I tripped and landing hard on my hands and knees to walking up and down the hills from the crappy place I was living in. Bad shin splints from that place and the varicose veins almost 30 years ago. It's just all caught up to me.

That and "handwriting" are why I got B's in English in grade school when I was straight A's otherwise. That really depended on the teacher though an how much weight they gave that stuff on our grades. I had a 4th grade teacher I was convinced hated me because she gave me the only C grade I ever had in grade school because of my handwriting.

Thanks lady. I can type 65wpm with a 1% error rate, but I sucked at writing calligraphy that they don't even bother teaching kids anymore in the 2020s.

By the time I was in middle school I got A's in all of my English classes through my multiple attempts at college. I'm glad we moved into an era where my two biggest writing weaknesses aren't even a factor anymore.

Oh geez...

I never thought of that before. They've got to have a local dictionary option somewhere on the browser, right?

That would drive me nuts if words that I knew I was spelling correctly had the red squiggles. It's already bad enough that these browser dictionaries are limited and sometimes I use words that aren't even in them and I get the squiggles that way.

They should but since English is considered a "universal" language at this point in time, I doubt they will.

That is why I ignore the squiggles when they come up.

Also SIG mentioned about English collecting words from other languages which is true. But that one fact makes English one of the hardest languages for non-English speakers to learn.

I think you can fix it.

What browser do you use?

I just checked for Firefox and it's pretty simple. You hit the three horizontal bars up toward the top right of the browser, somewhere right below the X that closes the window. A drop-down menu with a lot of options pops up and you click on "Settings", located somewhere near the bottom of that list.

This opens a new tab in Firefox.

From this tab, go to "General" if it didn't already default to "General". (The gear icon on the left side)

On the General tab, scroll down a little to "Language and Appearance".

There is a line that says the following:

"Language
Choose the languages used to display menus, messages, and notifications from Firefox."

Click on the dropdown box right under this that says "Search for more Languages".

You will get a popup that says "Firefox Language Settings".

Click the bottom button here that says "Select Language To Add".

Now you'll get a huge list of languages. Scroll down to English and there will be quite a few options with a qualifier in parenthesis. I do believe that yours would be "English (CA)".

I'm sure there's something similar in the language settings for whatever browser you use. The steps to get there would be slightly different, but I'm sure they had to have added these alternate dictionaries on every browser by now.

Let me know if you try it out or have any questions. I can look into how you'd do it on a different browser if you needed help.

I hope you do. I don't know how you haven't thrown that thing out your apartment window by now looking at red squiggly lines for words you're spelling correctly all the time. I know I would have a long time ago.

Just to mention something along the same subject, I had a very similar conversation with my brother recently. He was complaining about his Mac not doing something that would be a Genius Idea if somebody ever implemented it.

I don't remember specifically what his idea was or what he wanted to do, but it sounded like something that was very easy to get his devices to do if he knew how to use the settings of his Mac and how to get all of his stuff cross-talking with each other. I just wasn't much help for him beyond that because I don't know MacOS and I have no intention of ever using Apple products. I could probably figure this out for him when I'm at his place and I've got some time to tinker with things, but I'm not going to try to walk him through how to use his Mac over the phone when I can't see what he's looking at or what he's doing.

I think everybody would be surprised at what they can get their devices to do for them, but they just don't know about it because they're only presented with the one way that the developers give them the software/hardware right out of the box and they don't get adventurous and play around with the settings.

Most of the time it's pretty safe to be playing around with any of the general settings somebody gives you. They usually do a pretty good job these days of "idiot proofing" things to the point that nobody can get themselves into trouble unless they go out of their way to "unlock doors" barring them from all the big red shiny buttons.

Over time I've gotten my aunt to be much more adventurous with this stuff and she figures out a lot of things on her own now. I'm kind of amazed sometimes, actually. All she needed was for me to take the training wheels off and to let her know that we've got all her important stuff backed up and there's nothing she could do to her desktop or laptop that I couldn't fix.
