Jimminy, that's hot!!
I think our hot spell must have moved to you!
Cooldown any time soon?

Saw Dr Ortho yesterday. I honestly didn't expect much ... maybe he would put in for a test for X-rays and then reschedule for another visit and blah blah blah....

Turns out, the ortho dept has their own X-ray machine - who knew? - and the reason why I had to go in at stupid o'clock was to have a series of knee X-rays done. Then Dr Resident tested my knees for stability, and Dr Ortho came in, looked at my X-rays and said I had arthritis in my left knee. Asked if I was looking for a knee replacement... HECK NO!! ... and asked if I was willing to get a cortisone shot in my knee.

YEAH MAN, SHOOT ME UP!

So, that's what happened. They take a long sturdy needle and go under the kneecap. I gotta say, it felt weird, and since it was a pretty high volume my knee felt full, but now that the stuff has distributed my knee feels better and the pain is 90% gone.

And I was so sure it was a tendon problem! But seeing as arthritis gallops thru my family, and I have arthritis pretty much everywhere else, I shouldn't be surprised.

I like Dr Ortho. He answered all my questions (No, compression knee sleeves don't work. Yes, better shoes and orthotics could help. Yes, right here in the Xray is where you see arthritis.) wants the dog to keep taking me for walks, offered injections every 3 months if necessary, and even gave me his non-offuce number so he could squeeze me in for shots if I needed them.

Plus I really like his attitude of getting more "mileage" out of my knees, bc that's what I want too.

Back to being more functional!

For here yes. There is a cool down coming in another day or so. It will be a relief for a lot of people for sure.

Wow! Sounds like your appointment with Dr. Ortho went great. That's fantastic. I don't know if I could stand cortisone shot. Especially around a joint like that. And I've known people that have gotten that shot and it does help.

I hear you about the arthritist. It runs through my family as well. I figure it is waiting in the wings to get me. Have a cousin that needs a hip replacement.

Appeals Court Nukes Boasberg's Contempt Order In Trump Admin Deportations Case

Earlier this year, Boasberg said he found probable cause to hold the administration in contempt because it purportedly violated his orders to halt deportations under the Alien Enemies Act.

However in a 2–1 decision on Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit indicated that Boasberg went too far. Judge Gregory Katsas said that one of Boasberg’s orders could have been read in different ways.

... [therefore] "the government’s initial implementation of the proclamation clearly and indisputably was not criminal."

... Judge Neomi Rao described Boasberg’s decision as an “egregious” abuse of the court’s contempt power and said Boasberg had lost the authority to try and “coerce compliance” with his original order. That’s because his initial halts on the deportations had been vacated by the Supreme Court in another decision from April.

Since your weather tends to drift eastward, SIX, maybe western NY will get some rain too. They could really use some!

Just plugging away a step at a time. The weather finally turned reasonable enough, for a few days, to allow some yardwork. So today and tomorrow, and maybe Monday (?) that'll be on the agenda. Nothing big, just long-delayed raking and weeding.

Yeah. I don't know about that. It was supposed to be going North of us over the lake, but then suddenly the entire NW Indiana area got blasted right in the center of it all when it shifted south-east in a direct line over us. Not sure where it went after it passed us, but NY didn't seem to be the direction it was headed. We ended up having thunderstorms for 5 straight hours when we weren't supposed to have any.

And I'm amazed. The power did not go out. A cow farts in a field and I lose my power here. It's so bad that I fully expect a power outage the second I see lightning, so I was pleasantly surprised that this is the 2nd big storm we've had where we didn't lose power in a row.

Just 1 week before the last storm, the power went out for no good gorram reason while I was on the phone with my aunt. There was no rain, no wind, no nothing. But I lost power for 4 hours with no explanation from the power company. They just do whatever they want, whenever they want.

Same thing with my sister. Any storm, rain, snow, or even a little wind- her power would go out. Sometimes for days at a time. This went on for years. And it was just her house and a few around her.

She complained up and down the line, and finally she went to one of those "we'll stand up for the little guy" TV shows, told them her story. Something happened behind the scenes, Niagara Mohawk got someone to trim ONE FRIGGIN' BRANCH and she hasn't had an outage since.

Yeezus that's hot! I know it's humid there too. Sis had the same weather, I was actually worried for her health and safety. She finally sprung for central air, bc up until just recently she didn't have AC at all, not even a window unit.

It was up in the mid 90s, but ... yanno... not with your humidity! For me, outdoor work is reasonable up to about 85F. After that, I switch to indoors.

Sounds similar to what our problem is around here. When I get hit, only a few houses around me are also hit, with most of the rest of the neighborhood doing just fine. I guess it's been that way for decades. Every once in a while it surprises me like this and I think that this time they finally figured it out, but it's usually short lived. Guess we'll see. Good for your sister though.

This issue is nowhere near big enough for me to put my face out there to get it fixed. I'll just get my genny running when I need to. I probably wouldn't have even needed it last night. We've had a ton of rain in the last few days, but it's been a pretty regular summer around here up until now. My sump well is probably close to bone dry, or at least it was before 3 or 4 days ago. No drought or anything, and my grass actually has been real green and looks good this year. If it hadn't gotten so hot for so long again (2 years in a row), it was just about perfect around here this spring/summer. At least precipitation wise.

--------------------------------------------------

"I don't find this stuff amusing anymore." ~Paul Simon

Yeezus that's hot! I know it's humid there too. Sis had the same weather, I was actually worried for her health and safety. She finally sprung for central air, bc up until just recently she didn't have AC at all, not even a window unit.

It was up in the mid 90s, but ... yanno... not with your humidity! For me, outdoor work is reasonable up to about 85F. After that, I switch to indoors.

Yeah. Knew it was bad yesterday when I had to go into the attic for something and my glasses immediately fogged up so bad I couldn't see anything. I'm just about useless in that weather these days, so looking forward to it finally cooling off.

Oh god... I'm glad your sister finally gave in too. And she sprung for the REAL solution.

My dumb ass went WAY too many years without A/C, and now that I've figured out how comfortable I can make my entire house with just a single window unit because I live alone, I feel REALLY stupid for the misery I put myself through all of those years over basically nothing. Even with high electricity prices these days, it really doesn't cost all that much for the comfort it provides, especially when compared to the winter bills.

And, I don't recall if I mentioned it to you, but last year that 10,000 or 12,000 BTU unit I had cooling this place off for 3 or 4 summers just went kaput on me. My buddy gave me a brand new 5,000 BTU unit he was going to leave with the house when he sold it along with about half a dozen others that were new or used. He just took it off the pile and handed it to me when I was helping him move the last of his crap out.

It turns out that's all I need. THe last two summers were way hotter than the 3 or 4 before them when I had the big unit, and I've had zero complaints. Even on the hottest days, it only gets to 77 degrees on the 2nd floor, and the 1st floor is just fine. The basement with that ceramic tile floor is actually pretty cold, especially if you're just in your socks or barefoot. So if I ever get around to really waterproofing everything so I can try moving some furniture and entertainment down there instead of just using it as an indoor shed, it'll be really nice during summer down there.

And after I removed all the vinyl blinds that made it a dungeon down there and put that privacy film up on the windows instead, it's just as bright down there as it is anywhere else. Brighter than the 1st floor, actually, since there aren't trees all over the place like there is on the other side.

Oh... and BTW... I don't remember when I put that film up, but I remember you and I and Kiki talking about it when I did.

That stuff is amazing. As for everything that I put up inside the house, there hasn't been a peeling corner or a bubble forming anywhere inside or nothing. I think I may have dusted them with a microfiber rag twice since I put them up and they look just as good as that first day.

The only problem spots that I've had were a few corners on the glass slat side window on the garage. But between the dust, the bugs, the heat and humidity vs the frigid winter temps and whatever else, those get filthy compared to anything inside the house. And since I have a massive and heavy workbench table in between me and that window, I can't even open the thing on a hot day, let alone clean it all the time without it being a big chore.

Even then, nothing has peeled off. It's just a few "fraying" corners. Not even enough to get a peek at what's inside the garage, even after all these years.

It is all about prep, because there were probably 1/3rd as many complaints about it being a lousy product that didn't stick and there were rave reviews. But between getting the measurements right, completely cleaning and sterilizing the glass surface before applying the stuff, and taking great care that I only pulled the protective backing off when I was absolutely sure it was ready to go up, I have no reason to believe that the film I put up inside my house will EVER peel off on its own and will remain up there until I sell the house to somebody else who doesn't want them or I decide it's time for a change myself.

It's nice to know that even these days you can still luck into a really good product that actually does what it says and rewards you for making sure you live up to your end of the bargain going into it.

ETA: I guess there's one possibility that I hope doesn't happen with the film that I just thought of... The sun just finally breaking down whatever molecules are holding it all together over time. Don't know if it would happen, but I bet it could happen.

Fingers crossed.

Finished for today. Nice day out. Got a notice that the current repair guy for the building is leaving on the 23rd of this month. This is something like the third guy that has been here and I've only been in the building 5 years.

Great. Looks like another night of thunderstorms and the weatherman having no clue what's going on with all these pop-ups around the lake.

The storm we weren't very likely to get that was supposed to end an hour ago is supposed to end an hour from now. Heavy, heavy rain that ain't letting up, and lots and lots of thunder and lightning.

Good news is there isn't much wind like the other night, so maybe the power might stay on, maybe? Bad news is that means the clouds just aren't moving and they're dumping a ton of rain without clearing out any time soon. Worse news is that any dry land I was sitting on ain't dry anymore after a few days of this within a week. I haven't heard my sump pump go off for 3 months, but it's going off a lot right now.

If the power goes out, I'm getting wet tonight.

Finger's crossed.

So far so good, with the power at least. Thunder and lightning are back with heavy rain again after we got about an hour break from it.

I've got about a cups worth of water on my basement floor right now, but I already know that's because my really high gutter is clogged up and the heavy rain is falling against the house. Unfortunately, I think that means the leaf blower extension I bought was BS and a waste of money. I did blow stuff out of the gutter, sure, but clearly not even close to enough. That thing is not so bad when I'm just clearing out the gutters that are a few feet taller than me in the front, but it gets pretty hard to keep control of it when it's blowing full force and you've got all the extension pieces on it and you're holding the blower over your head from the ground trying to reach the gutter and get it to point downward the correct way without blowing all over the place on you.

If I can build something to mount it to my shoulder while not burning my skin, that would probably fix the stability issue, but I'd still have to bring something out there to stand on and move it down as I went along because it wouldn't be tall enough on my shoulder by probably less than 1 foot.

Even in the front though, I can tell that it's clogged up too. Not as bad as the back, but when it gets really heavy not all of that water is going where it needs to go in the front either. I did all the blowing after the helicopters fell, and there hasn't been anything new besides some stray leaves in the wind over the last few weeks.

Still doing a lot better than we did years ago when heavy rains came and I didn't have gutters at all and I hadn't worked on grading anything. Granted, we haven't had a season nearly that bad since, but I'd have a hard time believing that we'd go from the cup of water in my basement now to mopping and bailing out the basement for 10 hours straight and barely keeping up with it like I did back in May of 2020 even if we did.

I still got work to do.

Wow, I really hit a nerve, didn't I? I can see how much your feelings were hurt by how big of a dick you're willing to be.
Well, I can delete that part of my signature (still funny, BTW!! ) but we'll still remember that you were willing to troll BRENDA ... BRENDA for god's sake! With whom you had pleasant ongoing conversations ... because your pride got bruised.
Jeez. Lighten up.

Hurt my feelings, I don't think so comrade. No, what you did was to try and shame me for misspelling a word. Not once in a post, but with all your future posts. Fuck Brenda, she befriends stalkers of her friend. She keeps company with someone who supports pedophiles. And blames innocent people of being that. She enjoys the companionship of people who think she is second class. For being both native American and a woman.

And Jack is trying to destroy this country because his pride has been hurt. She's not a loyal friend. She'll get in your face for criticizing Canada but she befriends, as I've said, someone who is happy to see America fall.

So, I decided to have some fun. And trust me, it was fun. I see you removed it. I'll drop it. Put it back, and I stay here. Like I said. This will be my new Russia Russia Russia thread.

too funny...

What do you not get? If I wanted to shame you for misspellings I could do that with almost any one of your posts. Besides, between my bad eyes, fat fingers, small phone face, and that infamous "autocorrect" I post a lot of bloopers of my own!

Dood, it was FUNNY! I - literally- laughed out loud, and hubby chuckled when I read that sentence!

I guess it didn't hit your funny bone, but it sure hit mine!

No, I constantly knock the snot out of you, and Jack. It's why my spelling moral wrong by using e instead of a was Manaa from heaven for you. You put it in your signature because you're desperate to find flaw with me. Your life with hubby must be shit boring if that tickles you that much. It's not funny at all.

Now this is funny;

Vladimir Putin suffers a stroke during the invasion of Ukraine and goes into a coma.
After several years, he wakes up and is allowed to leave the hospital, walking out onto the streets of Moscow.
Several years of being in a vegetative state have apparently taken their toll on the Russian leader, because no one recognizes him.
He decides to walk into a bar and orders himself one stiff drink, and then another.
After downing the two double vodkas, he asks the bartender:
”What year is it?”
Somewhat taken aback by the question, the bartender responds: “2025.”
”Did we win the war?” Putin asks.
”We won,” the bartender responds, pouring himself and Putin another shot, and clinking the glasses. “To our glorious victory,” the bartender says as they both down the shots.
”And Crimea, is it still ours?” Putin asks.
”Still ours,” the bartender responds.
“And Kiev, is it ours?”
”Of course,” the bartender responds.
This makes the Russian leader smile. He asks the bartender how much he owes for the drinks.
”100 hryvnia,” the bartender responds.

Thanks for the laugh comrade...

Oh, and THGR?

Tearing down BRENDA like that?

All she wants to do is stay out of the crossfire. I can understand that. I'm not demanding that she take my side in the arguments around here; bc they can get pretty nasty.

But you think you can demand that she take "your side" and then you proved what a jerk you are by aiming your gun directly at her when she didn't?

So not cool. Dood, lighten up! Take that stick outta your ass!

BTW, it's manna.

Hi BRENDA! I apologize on behalf of THGR. I'm sorry he posted what he did. IMHO it belongs in the past.

How's the week looking weatherwise?
Anything up on the agenda?

As usual, I didn't get done as much as I had planned today. I skinned and cut a chicken into parts (wings, drums, breasts) and divided it up for refreezing, and trimmed a big chuck roast (cut out fat and gristle) and divided it up for refreezing, and dear daughter cleaned 2 lbs of 'shrooms (on sale) for slicing and cooking for freezing. It'll save me a lot if time in future, but it sure took a long time today!

So for the rest of the day I'm going thru the mail, plus I owe my sister an email attachment, like yesterday.

Tomorrow hubby has a regular appt with his spine surgeon and dear daughter is heading out to gym with her supported exercise group, and after that he'staking her grocery shopping, so I should be able to make some really important phone calls on tax matters. It's a very complicated problem and I hope I can find someone to help me figure it out bc the whole issue makes me nervous for the future.

The next 7 (8?) days are expected to be 32-35C (90-95F) so it's gonna be indoor work again, and we're going to be eating a lot of salads... salads and burgers, salads and microwave enchiladas, salad and ham steak ... not much cooking planned.

Well, back to the rest of the day.

Hi SIG. No worries. Not the first time I've been on someone's shite list and I doubt it'll be the last.

BC is drying out again. So the fire rating will go up again. Going to be a long fire season in the Great White North.

Nothing much really. Just got all my bills paid which is good because I am hoping to get away for a couple of days over the Labor day weekend. Need a med refill for the trip and I will get that on Friday.

I have to email the lady helping me and let her know what I found. There was one publisher that I couldn't really figure out what they want for a full length fiction novel and they threw in poetry as well. Very confusing.

I'm just trying to get some clean up done before. So, fingers crossed I can get everything I want to do, done.
