I hear ya. Moods...

Been trapped in my house for a few weeks like I said, and now it's the weekend and it's in the single digits outside. I don't imagine I'll be going anywhere, even though I was hoping to hang out with one of my friends. It's going to warm up during the week though, so hopefully I can just drop by and visit his family for a while and maybe watch a movie or something. I need to get out of the house.

Ever since I've been able to sit up without back pain, I've kind of dove back headfirst into my project work. Probably not the right thing to do, but I can't really seem to get myself motivated on doing work on my house at the moment, and it sure beats watching YouTube all day long.

Yeah, not good being in the funk I'm in. Doc said beating it off with a stick isn't much help. Can't say I disagree with him.

I hope you can get out and see your friend and his family. Talking with people in person is good.

Think your projects are okay at least they keep you busy and give you something else to concentrate on. Just take them slow so you don't injure yourself again.

Now I feel kind of bad that I let my back thing on top of the other stuff take such a toll on me this time around and I basically stopped communicating with everyone (IRL too). I enjoy our banter, even though I can't be relied upon at all to keep it up and I just kind of ride the waves...

How do you mean "beating it off with a stick"? I think that's probably a local or Canadian idiom that isn't directly translated to one we regularly use around here, maybe? Does it mean "don't beat yourself up over it"???

I've found that keeping yourself busy is always the real way of getting yourself out of a funk or at least keeping it at bay. I hope you're still writing, and glad you go out all the time to play Mahjong.

I know you rent stuff frequently from the Library, but outside of that do you regularly watch TV or the internet? For me, at least, I've found that this is the absolute worst thing I can do if I'm prone in any way to sink into depression or even just a temporary funk.

I don't even feel that way about video games, at least the strategic and/or puzzle games I like playing. I may not be doing anything while I'm doing that, but I'm keeping my mind active instead of trancing out and allowing whatever is playing on the TV control the direction of my thinking on a one-way basis. Something about the interactivity of video games doesn't let me fall as deep into the depths as watching TV shows and movies do.

That's why I can honestly say that the amount of movies and TV shows that I've watched since I sobered up nearly 9 years ago without being in the company of others is probably less than 50 hours. It's certainly under a hundred. That's not bad, considering there's 78,840 hours in 9 years.

I dunno. Not telling you what to do or telling you that it would even work, but if you do watch the boob tube quite a bit on a given day, maybe you should listen to some music and do something else for a change of pace?

Yeah. Me too. I rarely go a day without at least talking to some people on the phone, but after this much time it's just not the same. I think the high gets back up to around 40 by Tuesday, so fingers crossed. Right now it's 7 degrees (or about -14C) and headed towards a low of -2 degrees.

Yuck.

Well yeah... The house projects are great. Each one is a step closer to getting this house ready to put on the market and give me more options than I currently have, and I'm up and about and active and just feeling better about myself.

Unfortunately, that's not the projects I'm talking about right now. It's the computer based stuff that's been a life-long time sink and probably won't ever pay off in any way financially. I'm more likely to injure myself doing this by letting time get away from me and forgetting that I'd been sitting in the same position for 4 hours since the last time I got up and moved.

But my mood is a lot better after a few days of at least feeling like I'm accomplishing something worthwhile instead of just sitting around in pain and/or in a freezing cold house.

Hope you can get out of your funk too.

Damn... It is so cold around here right now.

Hope it's warmer up where you are, Brenda.

Don't tell me how warm it is by you until at least Monday, Sigs.

Don't worry too much about keeping up with things. I think we all fall with conversations on here.

I know the phrase ,"Don't beat yourself up over it" but "beating it off with a stick" doesn't mean that. It's more like don't let it something like a funk or depression get a hold of you. So you are "beating it back." It's not Canadian in origin, most likely English and it just hung around.

I am still writing and have a list of publishers that I started to go through that will take submissions. But being the end of the year I should up date it. I think I've said this as frustrating as the game can make me I do enjoy it.

Bout all I watch on tv nowadays is the news and any cooking or baking shows that have a chef on that I like. Oh, I also watch re-runs of M*A*S*H. I was watching "The Rookie" till it got canned and "FBI Most Wanted" till they got a new lead actor. When I was in high school I used to watch too much tv. Sci-fi, cop shows. Old shows from the 60s. Once saw all the Gilbert and Sullivan plays. They were being run on the CBC either on Saturday or Sunday night.

On this thing when I can find them, I watch old cooking shows. Even managed to watch all 4 seasons of Starsky & Hutch.
When I am writing on this thing I always have music on.

I understand but my depression is more from actually starting to miss people. I've never been a real people person. But now that I'm getting older. Yeah.

Oh, I play solitaire on here with different games. I found a mah jong site with lots of games and I play those.

Lucky you. Sometimes wonder why I have a phone. I rarely use it. It's mostly for emergencies.
Yipes, that is cold. Even at almost 9pm pacific it is 50C out but it is cold.

That's good on the house.
Oh yeah. Your computer stuff. Sitting forever. Yeah, I know that one. When I get sucked into solitaire or mah jong on my computer then I can sit forever. Still even if the computer stuff doesn't make any money for you at least you are thinking about complicated things and that is what the mind needs.

That's great.

I am working on it. Got a pamphlet from my seniors centre about the swimming. Haven't taken a real close look at it but that is definitely on the agenda.
