Welp, all done for today. Got some veg which are still in my shopping bag.

Doctor's appointment went good. Keppra prescription sorted. Have one refill on the old one and that will be used by the end of the month.
Told doc about seizures and said it's not a bad wait to see neurologist. He double checked how much I am taking of both of them. He's not sure what the neurologist will say. But all of that needed to be added to my file. Also developed some red and scabby skin on my left hand. Told him what I what is going on with it and he thinks it is contact dermatitis. I said that is what I was sort of thinking. Got a prescription for that. He said use it for two weeks but if I notice it isn't helping for if the skin on my hand is thinning to come back.

Also boss just had to get something to me today. So, I had to go back out and meet her.

But I am officially done and in for today.

Yeah, I did.

Wow! No wonder your weather was so wonky today. Not seeing anything like that in BC despite the still 124 fires burning in province. There is rain coming at some point.

Well... I think we'd better say our goodbyes soon before the plug gets pulled here, Brenda and Sigs.

Between "Haken"'s unwillingness to extrapolate on what sort of AI actions are being taken after Ted let that slip out, and this new move to a strange "uat" subdomain that there isn't much online about other than stuff that makes me worry, I don't think I'll be posting here anymore once the change is made.

The good news, if you stick around, is I think that "Haken" should be able to isolate the site from Google tracking if he set it up right. So there's that...

I'm going to miss this place. I've been posting here 20 years... A good majority of my adult life.

If you have any ways of staying in contact, suggestions should be made now. I'm not good at email, so I'm not going to lie and say that's a good way to do it on my side. Short of finding some unrelated web 1.0 site that has similar side-threads not related to the topic of the site and a whole lot of strangers around that might not appreciate us hijacking the place, I don't know if there really is a good solution.

I'd hate to leave it like this with Sigs and I arguing, and I'm really going to miss our chats, Brenda.

Me too, Brenda. :(

I wish I could tell you more, but even doing research on the new subdomain is difficult. (What I mean is the site will be known as uat.fireflyfans.net, instead of www.fireflyfans.net going forward).

It's not as if www has been safe for well over a decade now either, and this "upgrade" might be good for everyone. Like I said, if he sets it up correctly, he could keep Google from crawling the site as it's capable of doing right now. It's really easy for me to find most things that people said in the past on this site because of that fact. I'm still a memember of a few other web 1.0 sites, but they had upgraded to 2.0 and they both prohibit Google from seeing anything, and prohibit lurkers from being able to see things unless they are members of the site, as it should be.

I just don't like how quiet "Haken" is about all of this. He's never taken any time to tell any of us (outside of possibly Ted in email conversations) what his AI plans are, and now this.

I won't tell you that you shouldn't stay here. I'm just thinking that it's time for me to go.

Finally turned the A/C off after who knows how many straight days of blasting it 24/7. During the worst, it was almost 100 degrees outside with a real feel of 110 degrees with nothing but humidity in the air.

Even with my little A/C unit struggling to keep up, it was so bad that my front door didn't want to close when I got the mail, and that NEVER happened in the 8 or so years I didn't have any A/C in this house at all.

Down to 73 on the 2nd floor right now, with low humidity in the house today, and it's raining on and off all day with pure cloud cover. It actually was getting uncomfortably cool as I'm sitting in my boxers so rather than put on clothes and keep it running I just turned it off.

I'm seeing one more day next week in the high 80's but that should be the end of that for this year.

Soon I'll be bitching about my $600 gas bills and wishing for summer again.

So far it's still .net. I'll look into .ua. Maybe it's not as bad as you think.

Also, maybe like you said, we can find an alternate site.

Somehow, and I don't remember how, I got BRENDA's email from ... like... 20 years ago. Unless she's changed it, I can still get in touch.

And don't ask me how, but I think I know your real name and your IRL addy, SIX, to the city and street name. What I can't do is get a way of getting in touch. You probably wouldn't want to, but if you post your house # I can send something snail mail with a valid but non-critical email addy. If I've got the wrong info, no harm done, and you haven't revealed anything vital.

That sounds terrifying.

I'm sure Google knows who I am and where I live by now, also everything that I've ever posted on this half-baked website with zero security.

I have a good idea how you would know this, I just would never think that somebody other than me would be that persistent and/or have that much free time on their hands.

I think, at least right now, I'm going to pass on that idea.

If you're that resourceful and persistent, I don't think I want to know the truth of whether or not you know who I really am.

How about you just go ahead and send some nonsense in the mail to the person you think I am, and try not to feel too bad when you hear in the news that my heart exploded in the week or so following, mkay?

Discovering at 4X years old that you can press ALT+ Up Arrow in Explorer to go up a directory. Then playing around and figuring out that holding ALT + Left goes back to the previous directory, and ALT + Right goes forward a directory in your history as you assumed it would after learning the ALT+Up trick, and just appreciating all the time that will save me in the future.

... and then realizing how much of my life I've wasted in the last 3X years by not knowing those 3 things.

That's probably a good full work week of days I'll never get back.

We've almost got our Kwargs piped off. They're done, really, but we're fixing all of the pointers that need to point to them instead of into the ether at broken links of long wiped out legacy code.

It's amazing to see all that data in 7 columns in a freakin text document as if it were an Excel spreadsheet now. Especially knowing that they're organized in logical priority so the order of those should never change in the future and cause everything downstream to break, and also knowing that I have options to add a theoretically infinite number of pipes (columns) to the data sheets in the future to handle all sorts of information, such as great metadata tags for all of the files that could be applied in many ways I wasn't even theorizing on before I'd seen this come together.

No more running a bunch of processes to get any of that data on the fly and wasting CPU cycles and bogging down the code with a bunch of BS patchwork, no more of a dozen or so variables in "invisible" RAM placeholders, no more whitelists/blacklists and other hard-coded crap that is just going to break in another environment, and (hopefully) an AI who knows what the hell we're looking at once we finally get all of this logic airtight.

Another day we haven't moved on to expanding anything, but we're almost there now.

I can feel it.

Not a bad morning at mah jong, broke 1,000 points easy. Finished with over 5,000 points. Though for only 9 people playing still some big scores. 11,000 got first place. 8,000 got second place and 6,000 got third.

Weather is still good around me but the weather people are still calling for rain. Have to see.

Didn't you win last one with 6,000 or so, Brenda?

I don't understand the scoring of Mah Jong. Is there going to be higher scores all around if less people are playing?

I don't mean that there's just a specific Total Number that is split between everyone and everybody gets a larger slice of that pie if there are less people. But just that, in general, if there are less people playing the scores will tend to be larger. So if there were 12 people playing instead of only 9 people, you would have been more likely to win with 5 or 6 thousand instead of coming in 4th?

Yes, the other week or so ago I did win with over 6,000 points but the scores were slightly smaller. The lady after me that was going gangbusters had a score of over 5,000 points.

Not necessarily. It depends on the tiles you get like in poker. You get a full house and you can win big if everyone folds are has bad hands. Winds & dragons is like a full house and so is all 4 flowers and whatever else is in your hand.

That is possible. I've won with over 10,000 points one time and you can also get into the 100,000 points too. That happened about 3 weeks ago.

Just depends on the kind of tiles you draw and the tiles you pick up as you play.

In poker everyone gets rid of their worst cards and gets more. It is sort of the same thing with Mah jong. You get your original 13 tiles and extra for the flowers you have. The first draw throws the first tile they don't want. If no one picks it up then the next person picks a tile and see if it fits in their hand. If they can't use that tile they can throw it and some one else can pick it up but then they have to throw one that doesn't fit into their hand. This goes on until you run out of playing tiles or someone calls, "Mah jong." Then you lay your tiles out. You have to have 3 of a kind and pair to go out. Then you start counting. Flowers, points for what you were collecting and any 3 of the same dragons. Then you start adding doubles. If you have your own flower that is a double, all 4 flowers is 4 doubles, all dragons are with a double and what ever you are collecting as long as you have 6 of them is a double.

Should say that if you have like barely any count in your hand you get 10points.

Had to take a day away from the code...

I realized at the end of the session the day before just how bad I'd allowed the AI to screw me over because I wasn't babysitting it as thouroughly as I thought I was. I'd caught those cheated "else 30" statements and the like, but I wasn't looking for "lower()" tags that it was using to force lowercase strings for case-insensitivity, after we'd spent hours removing all of them before piping the kwargs, which makes them not only unnecessary (in all but 2 modules where they ARE needed), but entirely breaks our codebase.

Those else statements are all gone, but all-in-all, I allowed the AI to inject 39 instances of lower() all over our codebase while doing updates and didn't catch it until I did a deep dive of what was keeping us from getting everything running.

39!!!!

The problem here seems to be that it's perfectly capable of retaining the info and the codebase while running it in its current REAL state, but because of the limitations on how it's able to get the code to me in a way that I use it, it starts hallucinating and/or adding typos and/or leaving lines out completely when it has to give full modules back to me in the codeboxes.

I thought we had a solid workaround by only focusing on individual lines of code or smaller code blocks when doing updates, but that's ONLY going to work if I keep an eye out like a hawk for any cheating or hallucinating it goes through when only looking at one specific bit of code at a time to send me instead of updating the whole thing every turn.

I've asked it to see if it could figure out a way that it would be able to get me the full code that doesn't require sending it in downloadable links that only work 5% of the time. Now it is giving me new code modules that are supposedly going to RIP that code directly from the sandbox environment it is working from that should supposedly give me the ACTUAL code updates it has, rather than relying it to try to get that to me in split code boxes or small function updates that it can never appear to get right, due to its own system limitations.

I have no idea if that's going to work. We'll see.

You're not wrong.

That wasn't the fix though. It hallucinated its own abilities again just to tell me what I wanted to hear. It wasn't really posting anything on pastebin, or even if it actually was somewhere, it doesn't have any actual links to where it's posting them (it can't provide them in chat, and didn't provide them in the module). It just gave me 4 links to pastebin.com without anything else after them and the script obviously errored out right away saying I was performing an illegal action.

It then removed all markup and pasted boxes to me with just text in them. That was new, and for a minute there I thought it would work, but no... It's stripping out monster amounts of code by doing that. One module was 50 lines shorter than before and another was a staggering 120 lines shorter than it was before doing it this way.

It then went to the next step, which I thought would have to be the way we needed to do it, is by me doing a find/replace on all of them, but it did it with RegX in mind and didn't consider that a simple Find/Replace is expecting a literal text string and not variables, and even if I could find those lines individually to Replace with its suggestion, those replacements would be wrong because they're full of unusable variables in our code.

I think I'm going to have to present every line where they show up and surgically remove them and point them where they need to be going one at a time.

We already did that once, 2 days ago.

If I'm going to do this again, I better be watching it like a hawk whenever we're making any edits to any of our existing modules.

We've never managed to break any of our list-making codes while doing the improvements, so all the data that we need to execute further code is all there as it should be. I just need to figure out how to get our code pointing to all the proper places without jagging everything up with stuff like case filters after the fact.

That's funny. I was having a conversation with Sig. You interjected yourself into it. And then you got it wrong. As you always do dummy.

What did I get wrong?

Are you talking about attributing the quote to you instead of Sigs like I meant to, Ubu?

That wouldn't happen if you didn't litter every one of your posts with bullshit tags from top to bottom that make replying to you a chore every single time.

You are ten times as inconsiderate of others as you are stupid, and that's saying a lot.

Yeah, getting anything over 100,000points is very rare and yes it is like a Royal flush in poker.

I once earlier this year got all 8 flowers, so that was 8 doubles right there. I think on that hand I finished with over 90,000 points maybe higher.

Nice. I never had anything close to a Royal Flush, but aside from a few years playing Texas Hold'em with work buddies, I never really play cards since I don't gamble. I didn't mind doing that though because we'd just do a $10 or $20 buy in for the night and if you lost, you lost.

I'd never play real poker like some of my friends do where they're gambling every single hand.

I know what I got wrong, loser. I put your name instead of Sigs when I quoted a reply.

And I told you exactly why it happened.

Why don't you tell us about the coal minors again. OPPS! Or maybe you can show us 100 different ways to misuse an apostrophe. Or every single way that you can use the wrong two/to/too, or there/they're/their again.

You're a fucking idiot, Ted.

Get the fuck out of the Garden, loser.

IDK why, but lately I've just been tired. Having a hard time getting my rear in gear. I'm glad I don't have to walk as much as you do, BRENDA. Right now I'm just walking the dog, and sometimes they're darn short!

Well... I want to revise when I said "You're not wrong there"...

You're right and you're wrong, because it's another you can't have your cake and eat it too...

Either I'm training the AI, or I'm not. Either it's teaching me, or I'm teaching myself.

I'm grateful that the tool exists, because where all teachers except possibly my DOS teacher in college would have failed me abysmally, I'm not failing at learning Python here because the AI allows me a sandbox that no teacher ever could, and one that I actually have a very high interest in at that.

That being said...

Holy crikey...

I've been MAD at the AI today, but it turns out that it was just a very unfortunate series of events that lead us both around by the nose completely all day long.

My network share was down, even though it didn't appear that it ever was. The computer sharing it was up and working completely. But my laptop I'm doing the work on was completely borked. The folder I was in the network share on never booted me and looked like it was up, until I refreshed and it wasn't. And no amount of ipconfig command prompt magic was brining it back up, and restarting Explorer didn't fix it either. It required a full restart on the laptop to bring that back up.

Why does that matter?

Because one part of our script very early on prompts me for a remote path (the first path is where the script is run). But because that was becoming a VERY arduous process having to copy and paste that directory every single time I ran the code, I had us set up a directory cache file that it would find automatically and use, and it would only prompt me for that directory if that file didn't exist.

So half a day of looping so hard it broke CMD to the point where you couldn't even break the code and you had to close it completely and start over was due to a freakin' network glitch.

That will teach me to set up a directory cache file and not have a failsafe put in there to reject that file if the path in there doesn't currently exist.

The only reason that I found it was because I finally started really following the traces it was making and I started injecting the phrase "Print ("go fuck yourself")" right before the point it thought the code was failing before doing a suggested change. 4 more straight suggested changes and that prompt never showed up on the screen (meaning the script was failing before the AI thought it was)... but on the 5th try, there it was....

go fuck yourself

And that's what finally lead us to figuring out my network share was down and it was causing the loops all along.

Here I was thinking it was because I stripped away all of the .lower() tags in 5 of our modules that don't need them and that somehow broke something. Had the AI thinking that as well as we spent all day chasing rabbits that we were never going to catch until we realized the network was down.

It's alright though. I've become EXTREMELY intimate with that .lower() tag now and I really get how it operates.

So much so, in fact, that when the AI was suggesting some fixes we actually DID still need to fix pointers after piping the Kwargs, I said no... Instead of duplicating text strings in both caps and not capped, I'm going to add back in those .lower() tags where they make sense and aren't getting in the way of our piped kwargs.

Of course the AI said I was brilliant because it wouldn't be Google AI if it wasn't spending every minute blowing the end user, but this time I don't think that it was wrong.

That's only a save of about 300 characters by doing it the Right Way here, and doing it the Wrong Way wouldn't have had any negative impact on the process other than that minor code bloat we didn't need, but the point was that I was able to recognize that. The AI was never going to suggest using .lower() to me again, even though it was the Right Way here, because it has totally locked itself down from adding .lower() again after it got some real lashings for it after adding 30 instances of it after we spent a few hours removing them the day before.

But I saw it.
