REAL WORLD EVENT DISCUSSIONS

My case for why there is no conscious, seperate entity such as God (Bible-like God, that is)

If "god" were as reliable a working hypothesis as gravity or electrons, we would be using that concept to light our cities or grow our food. Unfortunately, "god" can't be turned on by flipping a switch or opening a valve. In fact, "god" as a hypothesis seems to be either ineffectual or so far outside of the real world that it can't even be tested. If it can't be tested, it can't be disproved.

In any case, IMHO you haven't even demonstrated god beyond a reasonable doubt. When do you supposed you might actually get around to it?

So the first open mocking of the forum! Hurrah!

Briefly, because this discussion has definitely taken a turn.

1) There are plenty of people who would take things as evidence for the hypothesis of God's existence that you would not. That doesn't make them wrong, nor you right.

2) Material monism is every bit the leap of faith that belief in God is.

3) "Reasonable doubt" is, unfortunately in the eye of the beholder, and is, as such only a subjective measure. Because it is, unanimous agreement is impossible.

4) Mocking people who believe in God and His power in their lives is a sure-fire way to make yourself look like a goober. May not have been what you intented, but that's how it felt.

5) How could God ever be testable in the same way as electrons? Honestly, I'm pretty sure that the physical sciences have no way to test for spiritual realities. Science is a useful tool, but can't tell us the about everything there is. Insisting for scientific testability is pretty limiting in terms of what counts as credible.

With that, folks, I'm out. I didn't get emotionally involved with this until the last couple of posts, and that's a good sign that I've had my fill. Ta for a lovely time.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It's been said several times in this thread that you can prove that God exists beyond a reasonable doubt- but somehow the actual presentation of the evidence seems to be lacking. So would you kindly (individually or collectively) possibly develop a list of sorts and explain to me what your evidence is? What "things" are evidence for God? I've seen a lot of reference to the Bible. Is the Bible your evidence? I've seen some references to how people feel- that sense of confidence that things are as you believe. Faith, is guess. Is that the evidence? Or is your evidence based on logic- that God cannot be disproved? I'm not mocking (and I resent that you would say that) I'm just trying to get a handle on what YOU (collectively or individually) think is "evidence". Is your evidence different from Cartoon's? Or Omegadark's? I would appreciate if you would make your case.

And if you already have and I missed it, I would appreciate if you would repeat it.

My friend laughed, but I wasn't kidding.
