There is a lot of discussion about the state of this country and a lot of name calling and arguments. It all comes down to one thing. On voting day, go to your local polling place and VOTE. It you don't vote then you have no right to complain.

ANTIMASON

thats always true, you cant dispute that... you kind of hope people know what theyre voting for though. i think thats part of the danger of spin, which we know is happening and its all LIES, but with a different lable so its acceptable- well the corporations and money interests from the federal and international levels out vote and out campaign the citizens, or just disquise their crime under clever beaucratic socialist guises; and they always win. they own the system, so you have to vote against them and that mentality. its not hard to see what direction the globalist/capitalist/consumer mentality is taking us, and i for one do not want a socialist/fascist world police state, and have no desire to support perpetual warfare.

the other problem is that its potentially pointless to vote if we cant insure that our voting system is sound and accurate, and most importantly impenetrable by outside interests. the DeBold electronic machines and its company heirarchs have a political agenda and they built those machines to be hacked into; its been proven. and going further back, if youll notice what happened in Florida in the 2000 presidential election, the body of politics surrounding the elections were fully capable and heavily manipulated that particular outcome; its just happens. we need to be a little more resilient and skeptical of the establishment and corporate america, the nature of lobbyists and system, and be able to recognize a fraud and liar and sellout when we see one.

otherwise VOTE ON!..

sorry, this is the sort of dictatorial position that I thought we had killed already.

1. people have the right not to take part in this charade which pretends to be a democracy. The voting machines have already decided the winner. it makes no difference how we vote.

2. The truly good candidates are removed by hook or by crook, preventing me from being able to vote for either Pirro or McFarland for senate. I can write them in, but so what? So I should have to endorse one of the remaining candidates?

3. As Heinlein said, only a fool votes and thinks that this gives him an equal say in democracy, your amount of political influence is porportional to the effort you put into it.

4. My election will be sweeped by mediocre democrats, not even decent ones. nothing i do is going to change that.

Sure, i'll vote, but I just wanted to say, this illusion of a say is absurd.

It ain't the voting machines that decide. Its the electoral college.

And more power to the mediocre Democrats. Because even that would be better than what we have now.

Geezer,

good idea.

I was thinking of voting republican anyway, even though the good candidates were weeded out and I know there's no chance of winning. So all I have left is a couple of openly pro-Bush republicans doing 20s and 30s in the polls. Faso seem like a good guy, but has no more chance of winning than the others.

FMF

no, it wouldn't.

think clinton. think a clinton step worse than bush sr., only that size step worse than bush jr.

in terms of total death, alone that's a frightening thought.

The only real election is the primary. if dems put up russ feingold in o8 i'll vote for them. if they put up a clinton, i won't.

Zisker,

sometimes i vote for the greens. they're loons, and socialists, and i disagree with about 2/3 of what they say. Malachy is a loon. but at least he has a cool accent. But i'd like a sane candidate who actually has a plan to bring peace and prosperity, and some chance of getting elected. I don't think the greens fit the bill on any of those, but if i really get annoyed i might pull that level anyways.

We must be aware of very different candidates. But at least the Greens haven't proven to be rampant hypocrites with solely self-serving agendas once they get into office.

zisker,

The greens have some internal corruption issues. They need to stop viewing the democrats as preferrable to republicans before their party heads will get seriously behind the idea of winning. If you're a third party, you can't take sides, or you'll end up caving when it looks like you're going to cause your side to lose. That's what happened to the greens in '04.

Hence the quanifier "grassroots level".

As for taking sides as a third party - sure you can. It's called pragmatism.
