Ok, the Democrats promised massive change during their first 100 hours but...
Quote:

So while the House has been in session for almost 48 hours since the 110th Congress was sworn in Jan. 4, the clock on Pelosi's Web site says only 17 hours 48 minutes have elapsed.

"We're just counting the legislative hours," Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill explained.

I think its a bit confusing. Is she using Pacific Time or Standard?

100 hours but not the first 100 actual hours. If they talk about something that's a "100 Hours Subject" then it counts, but for the next 343 days they'll pass laws that don't apply to San Fransico based companies (like minimum wage hikes that apply everywhere in the US and the territories except American Samoa which is home to the workforce of a major San Fransisco company), or meaningless resolution designed to undermine the war effort, and none of that time counts. Neither does the five day work week if it conflicts with football or good TV.

Do liberals count hours differently then regular folk? I know TV folk only have 45 minutes in an hour of TV (not counting commercials). Maybe some of our liberal folk can explain Pelosi-time?

You're suppose to have forgotten about that 1st 100 hrs stuff, and still be *celebrating the massive boost in income to 95% of the country via the min wage increase.

Wooo hoo! Party!

* Oooops, Sorry Charlie! I meant to say everyone but American Samoa. Seems SanFran Nan has a blind spot in her BIG GOV'T compassion:

---------------------------------------------

As part of their first 100 hours plan, Democrats are pushing a hike in the minimum wage. It's going to happen, with several Republicans and even President Bush prepared to go along with it. But did you know that American Samoa...a Democrat stronghold...is being exempted from the minimum wage increase?

And just what are the reasons being given for this? According to the chairman of the House, Education and Labor Committee, Democrat George Miller of California, the economy of American Samoa doesn't have the ability to handle the United States' minimum wage and should be exempt. Nice try...want to know the real reason? The answer is the tuna industry and like the product itself, this one stinks to high heaven.

The average wage for tuna workers in American Samoa is $3.60 an hour. One of the biggest employers there is Starkist Tuna...which is headquartered in San Francisco...Nancy Pelosi land. Anybody care to take a closer look at the campaign contributions of Democrats in the last election? One thing is for sure, the delegate from American Samoa, a Democrat, is loaded down with campaign cash from the tuna industry.

So there you have it...a double standard. On the one hand, we're told you can't raise a family on $5.15 an hour and the minimum wage must be raised to $7.25 an hour. But for the right price in campaign contributions, the tuna industry in American Samoa can avoid the minimum wage altogether...they just have to stuff the pockets of the right Democrats. Where is the media on this one?

Will the press be taking a closer look at Nancy Pelosi's campaign finance disclosures? Probably not. But somebody will.

Another wrinkle of exempting American Samoa from the minimum wage bill has come to light...

Quote:

In addition to the Del Monte-San Francisco connection, there is a link between the company and another prominent Democrat: Following a 2002 business deal, about 75 percent of Del Monte stock is owned by shareholders of the H.J. Heinz Company – whose heirs include Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Massachusetts Democrat - and failed 2004 presidential candidate - Sen. John Kerry.

StarKist is owned by Del Monte.

Zero, could you please provide a link for your quote? Thanks ever so much.

And Rap and Fivver? Would be much appreciated.

(Zero, please note that I do have a source, and it says some very positive things about the first 100 hours. Once you provide me with a link, I will then go on to quote all the good stuff you left out. Thanks again. )

The concept of the first 100 hours, for those nitpicking or trying to create controversy where there is none, is the first 100 working hours (not the first 100 hours since they've been elected).

Hero (and others) is trying to make it look like they meant something they didn't. It's like someone saying they work 40-hours a week, then claiming they lied on day two when they've only worked one or two eight-hour shifts instead of 40 straight hours.

And as to why her clock says 17 hours - has she updated the website recently? Is it possible it was 17 hours a few days ago?

This whole thing is stupid. Do you really want your elected officials bull rushing through legeslation? They barely get any of it right when they take their time. It's a dumb and irresposible PR stunt. If I were president I would be insulted by it and Veto everything they pass in the first 100 hrs. without even looking at it. I would eventually like some resposible governing out of some politicians somewhere.

But hey, it sounds good right?

As I said before, they don't wanna cut the leash, they just wanna be the ones holding it.

At this point it falls to us, that bein you, me and the rest of the constituents, to put a boot in their ass and keep it there till they do what we tell em, and if we fail in that, we've no one left to blame but ourselves.

If your elected officials don't honestly fear the wrath of your community they're supposed to represent, it's cause YOU screwed up somewhere.

Ya don't like how things are goin ? get on thier case about it - that's your job, your duty, as a citizen.

You wanted a link for this story ? Why ? It's out there, everywhere.Easy enough to find. But since you asked, here's where I got my info ...

http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html

rue - you taunt HERO for not posting a link, suggesting that he'll shoot himself in the foot. On what particular issue are you banking ? That a major corp. with its HQ in SanFran Nan's district is paying its workers far less than the min wage, and that they're getting a exepmtion at the wage hike?

What's the matter? Facts like that a bit too much to take? You think your national nanny is above such dealings with major invest.....err... 'donating' corporations ? Think again.

Hi Rap,

Zero's story was AP written, not carried by any major news source, but by local papers - for example, FortWayne.

http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/16450130.htm

Zero's point was to try to make the Democrats look bad. The things Zero left out - intentionally and unrectified I might add - were these: "With passage of a bill to make the government negotiate for lower Medicare prescription drug prices, Pelosi, D-Calif., is two-thirds of the way done ... Regardless of which clock is used, Democrats appear well on their way to accomplishing their promise."

THAT'S why I wanted him to post a link - so people could see how badly he misrepresented the facts, as usual.

---------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, it has nothing to do with your post. And I appreciate your link to your post btw. But your sources make many unwarranted assumptions. I did some independent checking. Pelosi, and Democrats in general, wanted and want Samoa to be covered by the new minimum wage standard. The governor of Samoa is the one who is objecting: "In a statement issued by Togiola, the governor says he regrets Pelosi's position "but I can appreciate the kinds of pressure that she is working under or responding to." However, he warned that if American Samoa's minimum wage is tied to the U.S. federal level, the result would be a disaster for the territory and for Washington."

Ok, the Democrats promised massive change during their first 100 hours but...

First 100 hours was postponed for a critically important football game. Yep, Pelosi and company rubbing your face in it.

You left out the part where the postponement was at the request of a prominent Republican representative from the district whose team was going to be in it, as well as one from the opposite team; neither of whom were going to be in the session due to PR work for their respective communities. And, how allowing the day off for that might be a good start to some bipartisanship, especially since someone from the GOP made the initial proposal.

But, hey, don't let facts get in the way of your anti-Pelosi rant.

{{Edited to provide link:
House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio had asked that there be no votes until Tuesday.

"There is a very important event happening Monday night, particularly for those who live in Ohio and Florida," said House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer.

"In the spirit of comity," Hoyer told colleagues, the House would not return to work until Tuesday.

Unwarrented assumptions? How about accurate observations! If the Dems wanted to include all of the US's territories in w/ this bill, they could have done so. That they 'conviently' left out A.Samoa, you seem to think is nothing more than a wild, kooky coincidence! Now THAT'S funny! Never mind that the HQ's for the companies which employ 3/4ths of the population in A.Samoa just happen to be in SanFran Nan's district. Gee, what are the odds ? But here's the nugget that should get most folks thinking.... why is artificially raising the wage folks make BAD in one area, but GOOD in other areas ?

Hmmmm...
