several links to TV News broadcasts, plus the Washington Post and UPI.

The White House is looking for a " war czar " to run the Iraq/Afghanistan War. Apparrently they've asked several retired Generals, all of whom said, " Not on your life."

Isn't that the Commander-In-Chief's job?
Or maybe the Secretary of Defense?
Or maybe the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff?
Or the ranking, still on active duty, General of the U S Army?
Or the Commanding General of the Army Middle East Region? ( Not sure of the exact nomenclature, but they divide the world into regions, Europe, Asia, etc. Iraq/Afghanistan must fit into one of 'em.)

Got all these gov't folks earning big bucks in this top heavy administration, supposed to be in charge. How come they ain't doing their jobs, earning their money? Maybe we oughtta privatize the whole damn war, contract it out to Halliburton, Boeing and General Dynamics.

Or is "war czar" another way of spelling "scapegoat" ?

When I first read about this I just couldn't freakin' believe it! America needs a czar now??? A czar like in the Education Czar, or the Drug Czar?....yeah, those went well....not!

Why a czar, and not a tsar? ..or even a tsarina?...and to do what exactly?...F**k it up even worse like that inept retard Paul Bremer did when he was the "czar of occupied Iraq"?

This has got to be the single most desperate and absurd thing I've seen come out of this Administration in...well...at least a week. It's a total abdication of the Commander In Chiefs' authority & responsibility, and an absolute open admission to the world that we don't have a frikkin' clue what we're doing in either country...this must be just killing our troops' morale.

Maybe Putin would consider being our War Czar? After all, an ex-KGB thug would have lots of nasty little tricks up his sleeve to quell these insurgencies. Or perhaps just turn it over to Alec Baldwin as the new War Czar...say what you want about "leaving for Canada" Baldwin, but when that dude gets angry...better step aside fast....anyone see Glengarry Glen Ross?

3 Generals Spurn the Position of War 'Czar'
Bush Seeks Overseer For Iraq, Afghanistan

...Kurt Campbell, a Clinton administration Pentagon official who heads the Center for a New American Security, said the difficulty in finding someone to take the job shows that Bush has exhausted his ability to sign up top people to help salvage a disastrous war. "Who's sitting on the bench?" he asked. "Who is there to turn to? And who would want to take the job?"

All three generals who declined the job have been to varying degrees administration insiders. Keane, a former Army vice chief of staff, was one of the primary proponents of sending more troops to Iraq and presented Bush with his plan for a major force increase during an Oval Office meeting in December. The president adopted the concept in January, although he did not dispatch as many troops as Keane proposed.

"Someone" is just looking for a fall guy that can be prosecuted in his place for all the war crimes that have been commited. Cuz well if other countries had pulled this then the "man" in charge would be help accountable and probably hanged.

That way he can pardon said czar before he leaves office.

Memos Reveal War Crimes Warnings
Could Bush administration officials be prosecuted for 'war crimes' as a result of new measures used in the war on terror? The White House's top lawyer thought so

By Michael Isikoff
Newsweek
Updated: 8:14 a.m. CT May 19, 2004

Quote:

May 17 - The White House's top lawyer warned more than two years ago that U.S. officials could be prosecuted for "war crimes" as a result of new and unorthodox measures used by the Bush administration in the war on terrorism, according to an internal White House memo and interviews with participants in the debate over the issue.

The concern about possible future prosecution for war crimes—and that it might even apply to Bush adminstration officials themselves— is contained in a crucial portion of an internal January 25, 2002, memo by White House counsel Alberto Gonzales obtained by NEWSWEEK. It urges President George Bush declare the war in Afghanistan, including the detention of Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters, exempt from the provisions of the Geneva Convention.

In the memo, the White House lawyer focused on a little known 1996 law passed by Congress, known as the War Crimes Act, that banned any Americans from committing war crimes—defined in part as "grave breaches" of the Geneva Conventions. Noting that the law applies to "U.S. officials" and that punishments for violators "include the death penalty," Gonzales told Bush that "it was difficult to predict with confidence" how Justice Department prosecutors might apply the law in the future. This was especially the case given that some of the language in the Geneva Conventions—such as that outlawing "outrages upon personal dignity" and "inhuman treatment" of prisoners—was "undefined."

Another great over-the-top performance by Mr. Baldwin in a great movie. Can he really be that good of an actor? Can you even imagine some of the dinner table scenes with Kim Basinger during their turbulent marraige?

"Steel Balls!"...man...coming from a sales background the memory of that scene still makes me sweat. Then watching Jack Lemmon fall apart...thats just hard to watch! It's interesting how uncomfortable that movie made me feel and I've seen it twice.

Vladimir Putin is a first class old school thug, thats for sure. He could probably get a lot more done there with his bag o' dirty old cold war spy tricks. But of course...the American people don't have the spine to get the war done, so people would be outraged and he'd get fired/scapegoated, and we'd be right where we are now...again! Isn't it time we left? We're doing the same thing to our boys over there that we did in Vietnam, only less bodies thank God. This concludes today's meandering rant.

Its also his job to issue pardons. But he has appointed the US Pardon's Attorney to oversee the details. In this case the nice lady who was seeing to the wars under the National Security Advisor resigned, not for anything bad, she was just movin on, and now they need a new one. No story here unless they pick PirateNews or Pelosi or someone like that.

Another non-story story. Big surprise. All we need is Anna Nichole Smith to put it all in context.

Now there's the Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General of the U S Army, the Commanding General of the Army Middle East Region (its actually called the United States Central Command and is headed by Admiral William J. Fallon)...not to mention the commanders of the forces in Iraq, Afganistan, and the smaller units of advisors, special ops, and support units stationed in surrounding nations, the Secretary of State, the CIA, the Secretary of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Pete from IS that plugged in the new flatscreen in the White House briefing room, the National Security Advisor, and a bunch of other folk high and low in a dozen different branches, agencies, bureaus, departments, and everything else.

So...maybe having someone to put it all together before the daily briefing is a good idea otherwise there'd be no time left for pardons.

Meghan O'Sullivan

To be fair the new person replacing her will have a new title "Assistant to the President" and more influence on policy.

Its not surprising that the "outspoken critics" have turned down the job. Its alot easier to be "outspoken critics" then to get on the firing line and make things happen.

"then to get on the firing line and make things happen"

Depends which side of the firing line you're on. Most people are thinking they'd be looking up the bore rather than down the barrel.
