It's true. In a column posted on the DailyKos, she writes, "I have invested everything I have into trying to bring peace with justice to a country that wants neither."

She further writes that her son "died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives" and "I will never give up trying to help people in the world who are harmed by the empire of the good old US of A."

She ends the article with the line, "Good-bye America ...you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can't make you be that country..."

The column is titled, "Good Riddance Attention Whore."

I know a few people who will find that title very appropriate.

well that was quite an interesting letter there. i am trying to be objective, and displace all my preconcieved media biases(which are largely negative).. so to be honost i cant necessarily disagree with her. i would have tried to take a different approach, but she is does have a point. regarding the war on Iraq, i agree with congressman Paul that our policy ought to be non-interventionist, and i sincerely believe that this is the only way to pre-empt future conflict and warfare. many believe that bad policy over a number of years has contributed to this situation to begin with, so we ought to reconsider our role in the world. and she is just being observant by pointing out that the two parties ARE acting almost too identical

the democrats gained majority of congress because they were critical of the war, but now if youll notice, after their failed political effort of a time line, they have since caved and dedicated MORE money to the war effort! as you can see, they simply want the power to waste the money on their own projects, or more of the same(status quo).

during the republican debates, only Ron Paul was against the war, unlike the other "conservatives", who seemed all too willing to undermine the constitution in order to bipass habeaus corpus, and to continue to pursue aggressive foreign policy. now Bush has given the CIA permission to execute 'black', covert operations to destabelize Iran!

she is making valid points. i think what has counted against her is that she has(understandably)delivered her message too emotionally for the ears of people who are supporters of the war. that and she could probably have better emphasized a solution, which is a return to constitutional government. its hard to resist(i realize), but she came off blaming Bush too often, and realistically congress is just as responsible for the war as the Bush administration. they were almost blindly in lock-step with them, when they should have been executing very critical oversight.

what suprises me is that she decided to leave the country. shed already made it this far, i would have just stuck it out.. and maybe in time her sons death could be vindicated by the changes taking place in american politics. i know i wouldnt leave America, i think our constitution is the greatest contract between man and government in the world, and as neglected as it has become, a big movement is afoot to restore the ideals our republic was founded on, and i find this incredibly encouraging

How about all life in general? Most of the innocent lives being taken in Iraq now are a direct result of sectarian violence. I used the analogy before and it still fits IMHO. The Constitution isn't the problem, nor is it the solution. You can't fight the media. And the media, as the whore for the rest of the corporate world, has taught us to be satisfied with bread and circuses (credit cards and stupid TV shows).

ETA: It seems that the Deomcratic vote to approve funding without timelines was the last straw. The Deomcratic Party is - for the most part- corrupt. (As is the Republican Party.) Too bad we won't see a Ron Paul/ Russ Feingold ticket anytime soon. Also, I haven't read anything about her leaving the country. I can't access Daily Kos at work (profanity).

I really wouldn't go that far. And I don't think RP is suggesting as much. Isolationism usually refers to countries that don't want to have anything to do with the outside world. That kind of extreme position is just as dangerous as the interventionist policies we're now pursuing. I was, for example, in favor of invasion of Afghanistan. And I see nothing wrong with regular cooperation with other nations to promote trade and the general welfare.
