When you fry them do you use vegetable oil or lard?
Sure, lard is worse for you (that's the point, right?), but I find that vegetable oil just tastes so gall-darn much better!

YOU do that too? Some folk find that gross, but I like the way the mayo brings out the honey taste.

Kaneman must have been given some free time in the computer room for good behavior in that insane asylum that he's/she's in. Question: How does a person type on a computer wearing a straight-jacket?

I am not joking when I say I have eaten a deep fried snickers AND a deep fried oreo. (not at the same time)

The snickers was okay, but it ruined the oreo. It was no longer crunchy.

I think Kaneman was making a valid and non-offensive point.
No need to be antagonistic in such a light hearted thread.

A drink? It's morning and I haven't even had breakfast, and I still have to go to work, and not to mention I'm hung over as we speak. I need some coffee, a boiled egg, and some orange juice.

What about the sugar frosted honey coated deep fat fried cheese sticks? They go great with coffee and are believed by some to cure a hang over.......

Well, if you are savvy, you’ll use Hydrogenated vegetable oil. That’s the politically correct Lard. You can use lard and say you’re using vegetable oil. The best of both worlds!

That was back when eating habits were a little less ... liberal? We wouldn’t need to worry about Lard-substitutes if we just lard a little more conservatively.

Well, being mostly a veggiesaurus, I use vegetable oil, but doesn't dipping them in mayo make up for that, at least a little?

I’m sure it makes up for it a lot. Also adds a gross factor. I don’t really eat mayo.

I don’t really eat vegetable oil for that matter.

ya fry 'em in that partially hydrogenated , Trans-Fatty-Acid ( FTA) synthetic oily stuff the Food Nazis are trying to get fast food restaurants to stop using, like in NYC .

Flavor is great, and so what if it causes cancer, obesity and addiction to whatever...

Lard, definately. I usually wrap them in bacon, as well. And occasionally garnish with crumbled cigarettes.

Haven't tried the choclate sprinkles, though. Thanks for the tip!

Absolutely!

Fry the bacon, then fry the eggs in the leftover bacon grease, then fry the bread(white bread only, please) in what's left of the bacon grease, slather with mayo, a little salt & pepper, place bacon and egg between bread slices, consume with a nice cup of coffee (two tsp sugar and heavy cream for me). Repeat as needed. I can hear those arteries harden from here, but it's soooo good.

edit to add: I can remember the can of bacon grease sitting on my mom's stove. Ah, the smell of it.

Actually I fry the eggs in a tsp of real unsalted butter, the bacon grease is better used for the hash browns - take three unpeeled small michigan red potatoes and give em a quick veggie brushing, then chop em into cubes of about 3/8"-1/2" and toss em in the bacon grease with a bit of salt and pepper and fry em up till they just start to brown.

Ain't NOTHIN better than fresh MI Red hashbrowns cooked like that, oh yeah.

Yeah, I remember the coffee cup full of bacon grease. When it got full, we would have biscuits and gravy, or maybe gravy on our chicken, but there would be gravy.

That’s sounds like a good way to make sure you die at the rip old age of 2.

But my grandmothers ate like that all of their lives, yet they lived to 109, 98 and ones still kicking at 89.

Actually that’s not what my gramma said. What they said was “eat your vegetables and lay off the sweets.” THAT is the problem with modern diets.
Lard isn't bad for you, unless it's all you eat and you don't eat any vegetables (that were the real bulk of my grandmother's diets) and you eat too much sugar.

I do agree with you though. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but we eat far more lard these days then gramma ate. Unlike grams’ cooking, the lard we eat isn’t transparent though. It’s hidden in names like hydrogenated vegetable oil. Hydrogenated vegetable oil is just lard, pure lard. Even lard isn’t pure lard.

Mine still eat it and they are 106,102,97,and 94. They are all alert, cook on their own, and do their own housework. Every time I stay at one of their homes, I wake to the smell of bacon and eggs.........
