Here are 20 reasons to vote for Fred Thompson. I swear on Howard Dean's life these are all true:

20. Fred Thompson uses a machine gun as a back scratcher.

19. When Fred Thompson found out a Senator had added pork to a bill, Fred Thompson ripped off the man's leg and beat him with it. The leg was later returned to the Senator as part of a bi-partisan compromise.

18. Physicists say that nothing can escape a black hole or Fred Thompson.

17. The original ending to In the Line of Fire had Fred Thompson stand between the assassin and the president and deflect the bullet off his chest. This was deemed to unrealistic, though, since no one would ever have the courage to pull the trigger on Fred Thompson.

16. The masked executioner of Saddam Hussein: Fred Thompson.

15. If you took Chuck Norris, Jack Bauer, Optimus Prime, a .50 caliber Desert Eagle, a samurai sword, pizza, the lobby scene from the movie The Matrix, the computer game Doom, and a DVD set of the complete A-Team series and somehow took all their awesomeness and compressed into one thing, you'd still only have something half as awesome as what Fred Thompson flushes down the toilet after taking a crap.

14. Polls show that, in a presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Fred Thompson, the result would be that Hillary would vomit up her own heart and die.

13. The most efficient airline security is to have Fred Thompson stare down everyone entering a plane.

12. Though Fred Thompson left the Senate in 2003, Harry Reid still hasn't stopped wetting his pants.

11. The actual cause of global warming: Fred Thompson's burning rage.

10. Scientists believe the reason for the sudden extinction of all the dinosaurs is either an asteroid or that they crossed Fred Thompson.

9. Fred Thompson has enough strength to throw Michael Moore ten feet.

8. Fred Thompson once stood on our southern border and glared at Mexico. There wasn't any illegal immigration for a month.

7. Fred Thompson doesn't get sunburned; the sun gets Fred Thompson-burned.

6. The reason Fred Thompson didn't want to stay in the Senate for long is because all the extra scrutiny kept him from doing his favorite hobby: Prowling the streets at night killing drug dealers.

5. Fred Thompson once ended a filibuster by ripping out a Senator's heart and showing it to him before he died.

4. Why does Iran want nuclear weapons? Out of fear of Fred Thompson.

3. Only two things can kill Superman: Kryptonite and Fred Thompson.

2. Every night before going to sleep, Osama bin Laden checks under his bed for Fred Thompson.

1. When terrorists get to the afterlife, they'll find that none of their seventy-two women are still virgins. Why? Because of Fred Thompson.

I was hoping this would be a real list. What does he stand for? Why is he popular? Is it just because he's been on TV?

YouTube: your source for voter information since 2005.

Well, the point is that any yahoo can post any piece of drivel he or she wants. I don't know if you've noticed, but YouTube is hardly a video news digest. Not with Lonelygirl, Hopeisemo and Askaninja on there. No, sir. Now, I don't doubt that you can find actual news, but you should at least be aware of the impression you make when you cite Youtube as a source of guidance on voting issues.

Or, alternately, you could reinstall your sense of humor; that might work, too.

Causal, YouTube has a vast amount of content. It's obvious to any well-intentioned person that I was not drawing conclusions from watching LonelyGirl15. From where I sit, it's as if you were criticizing me for using the public library because they carry Teen Beat. I wouldn't expect to make the "impression" you've come up with on anyone who doesn't intend to denigrate me.

You really shouldn't expect the object of your ridicule to find your cheap shots funny.

What, so we should be utterly dependant on tv networks owned by conservative shills like Sinclair or Murdoch for pre-edited, spring-loaded, heavily-biased "coverage" of poltiical candidates ?

Forgive me if I am perhaps dubious about the neutrality of the fucktards who practically coined the term swift-boating.

And for the record, I hate YouTube, they do at time practice bias and censorship, not to mention the signal to noise ratio is terrible... but in spite of that I still find them infinately preferable to the ministry of propaganda called network news.

The internet is prettymuch the last bastion of freedom, free expression, and freedom of information in this country - how ironic that it then comes to a discussion of political candidates who all but one wish to strangle it and break it to their will like every other goddamn thing in this country.

And even though I despise them, let's hear a shoutout for CDC, The 2600, and all the other nasty little pricks who bollocks up attempts to control it.

Hail to the Internet, I say.

Good God. Sense of humor. I wasn't insulting you. I was teasing you. Massive difference. If you want to stay insulted, that's OK. I would really prefer if you didn't because, generally speaking, I enjoy your contributions to the boards. I'm sorry that you took my poke in the ribs the wrong way. I suppose that that's not your sort of humor. But I'm not sorry for making a joke. Too much seriousness around here. I guess that's why I made the joke in the first place: the thread was meant to be humorous, and you slopped your wet blanket all over everything.

I believe the guy is the real deal, has 6 years experience as Senator, a Watergate attorney, etc etc...and believes in traditional American values. I would imagine that most FF Fans here will despise him for the American values thingy...but his chances are GREAT!...Fred - vs - Hillary in a TV debate next year...he will chew her up & spit out what's left....she'll still get elected I believe...no power in the verse can stop that, but he will make her earn it...

Far more effect then using a back-scratcher for a machine gun.

Nope. He does well in the polls for that reason: recognizable. People know his face. They think of him as tough military guy or hard nosed DA. While he may be a bit like those characters, I think people believe he is those characters.

Actually when that first happened with Jesse Ventura I thought it a terrible idea for the reasons most of ya do - but you know what ?

He did change my mind about it, sure he struggled at first due to lack of political knowledge and connections, but overall I think he did a better job of it than most politicians ever do.

So I gotta throw him kudos for that, at least.

Not that I woulda voted for him at the time, oh hell no.

Entertainers have a long history of entering political office..I don't know them all, but here's just a few.....

Ronald Reagan(Bonzo actor)....Governor, President
Fred Grandy(Gopher-Love Boat )...Congressman
Fred Thompson(actor)..Senator, Watergate Council
George Raft ( actor ) ...Governor
Arnold Schwarzennegger( actor )... Governor
Sonny Bono ( singer )...Congressman
Clint Eastwood ( actor ) Mayor
Dennis Kucinich (Wizard of Oz Lollipop Guild actor)...Congressman
John Edwards (many Oscar-nominated tort lawsuit court performances)...Senator?
Marilyn Monroe (actress ) Presidential assistant
Marilyn Monroe (actress) Atty General assistant
Rob Lowe ( actor ) Democrat Party Delegate, underage-girl orgy participant

Those are just a few off the top of my head....lots more with research. ACTORS can be JUST AS smart or patriotic as lawyers. Politics is just the entertainment business for ugly people....where else could these sorry sacks of shit get their homely mugs and ego-centric personalities and opinions aired non-stop on the tube? Me...personally...I'd welcome more entertainers over lawyers and "politicians" any day...they already have money and fame, so the Greed and power element is removed from the equation...perhaps some of them would actually do good work for the country.

Dogface Thompson is the GOP's last chance to beat Congressman Ron Paul. Ron Paul is the only candidate who can save the GOP from itself. Paul is the only GOP candidate who can slaughter the Demorat in 2008. Paul is the only candidate that can save USA from the New World Odor.

Paul won all GOP debates with 45% to 95% of the vote in all polls (that did not censor him from the "choices").

www.myspace.com/congressmanronpaul

In desperation, the shadow govt is drafting Fred "I Covered Up Watergate" Thompson, the consumate Washington insider.

Thompson's a dead horse. He looked bad on Letterman this week, because he always looks bad, and didn't even announce his candidacy.

If GOP somehow censors Paul from its convention, then Dr Paul will probably run as an independent, and win in a landslide. He's looking and talking VERY presidential in all interviews and debates, even tho he's publicly admitted Bush will kill him if he runs, just like Ross Perot said.

It's now been revealed that Mafia mayor Sir Rudy "I Bombed WTC7" Ghouliani KBE was in London running the "wargame" at the exact same moment and location of the 7/7 tube bombings, as confessed on BBC by Peter Power, and is also running the King of Spain's hostile takeover of all Texas highways to turn them into toll roads. Ghouliani's habit of playing drag queen in public makes him a farce in the GOP debates. Playboy magazine reported that for decades Ghouliani has called himself "Mr President".

My biggest gripe with Thompson is his coverup of Nixon confessing on tape that the CIA Watergate plumbers assassinated JKF Sr. HR Haldeman wrote that in his book The Ends of Power, and E Howard Hunt confessed that on audiotape deathbead confession to his son, as published ONLY in Rolling Stone this year. That's why GOP forced Nixon to resign, to keep "the Bay of Pigs thing" out of sworn testimony, and why Rosemary Woods erased the White House tape.

And, ah because these people are plugging for, for keeps and that they should call the FBI in and say that we wish for the country, don't go any further into this case", period!"

Thompson was at Knoxville TN's Cotton Eyed Ho's redneck bar on election eve in 1996 with all the other GOP VIPs, including Bob Dole and CanniBill Frist, when the bar's Arab owner was under indictment for terrorism, money laundering and concealing stolen property. He has since pled guilty to those crimes, which is part of AllCIAduh's pipeline to the Middle East. State senator Carl "Coca" Koella was also at Ho's, fresh from his hit-and-run kill of biker tourist Terry Barnard, for which he was later convicted of. Koella was the crack cocaine kingpin of Blount County, and "he knew every crack house between Konxville and Nashville", stopping at each one to pick up his cut under diplomatic immunity, according to state representatives who were in the car with him. TN GOP congressman Zack Wamp was elected despite having a prior conviction for dope dealing. TN leads the nation in number of sheriffs convicted of dope dealing, with 35 convictions so far. TN GOP senator Corker was elected to congress despite his business getting busted for hiring dozens of illegal aliens. TN GOP seantor Lamar Alexander was elected to Congress despite raping Cathy O'Brien and leaving her for dead in a Nashvile restaurant.

O'Brien also had hot lesbian sex slavery with Billary Clinton.

And the image of Thompson running nekked at Bohemian Grove holding Junior's peepee while he weewees is most disturbing.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"they already have money and fame, so the Greed and power element is removed from the equation" This is a joke, right? How about this - political life is just another way to pursue the money and fame they've been pursuing all their lives. After all, look at Swartzendoodle - he campaigned on being SOOooo rich he wouldn't need and be influenced by special money. And after getting into office - biggest special interest money recipient ever in California. And not from small groups either - but from insurance companies, oil companies, health care companies ... the big money interests ripping us all off. And he's in their pocket. WHHOOOooo hooooo ! Who wouldn't want THAT !

So, uh, out of curiosity ... all you troglodytes who just HATE when actors and singers get involved in politics - like Martin Sheen and Barbara Streisand - willing to eat your words with Fred Thompson in the race ? Just, you know, wondering if you realize you're all idiots.

And also, that I'm going to beat you all over the head with your own idiocy.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
No offense Rue, but I doubt you could even LIFT their idiocy, much less hit them with it - it'd be like dropping a 1958 cadillac on a fly, I mean, it'd do the job, provided you could HIT the freakin thing.

Perhaps you'd do better with a.. erm.. less massive weapon, I have an old softball bat you can borrow....

I'm going to sound horribly cynical but...many times we have started anew with a non politician. Jimmy Carter, governor, a peanut farmer and highly educated man, never broken the law, never had an affair, he was honest...but then...because of a lack of killer instinct in Washington...where you need it...he had only one mediocre Presidential term. That's why I'm examining my thoughts about Ron Paul very closely. It doesn't matter how much of a savior someone appears to be. My question is will they tame the leaches and sharks in Washington, or be sucked and chomped by them.

I wasn't clear. Sorry. I don't mind entertainers having political careers. There have been some great crossovers. I just get crabby when I perceive folks as supporting someone based on a role they played (more my problem than theirs) . Support Thompson all you want. That's cool. Just do it because you've watched the debates and read his position, not because he occasionally put DA Jack in his place. You know what I mean?

I get like this pre-election. It bugs me when I talk to someone and he’s picked a name at random. He didn't even try to research candidates. Sigh. I guess that’s why this thread got to me. It was a Chuck Norris list for Thompson instead of actual reasons I may want to look at him closer. Maybe there’s a reason people like him that I haven’t seen yet. Show me. Sway me. My vote is by no means decided this early in the game.

There's something here that bothers me profoundly about the whole President of the United States thing. We start the thread with the dreary Chuck Norris joke retooled to fit an actor/politician; and on the one hand it's insulting to think that this is the kind of stuff people think about when they're looking to elect the President, but I think this kind of thing REALLY IS what a lot of people think about as a candidate's qualifications for office: can he (or she) stand up to our deeply regressive fantasies without looking like a child playing dress-up?

The people that make the most sense in this election so far, Dr. Paul and maybe Mike Gravel simply don't fit into our collective fantasy of "The President." It seems to me that as much as "President" is a real job with real duties and real purpose, it's also this neurotic semi-religious Head of the Church of America--our surrogate National Father, our John Wayne of Statecraft, the American King with an eight year reign.

Someone likened Mike Gravel to a "grumpy uncle." I kinda think that characterization is more damning than any unrealistic policies the man could endorse. Dr. Paul reminds me of Mr. Rogers--can such a man win the Presidency?

Jimmy Carter won because Nixon had disgraced the office so profoundly that our main criterion that year was "Is the man decent?"

So here's this Thompson guy and he's got zero in terms of real ideas about governance that I've seen (and I've looked beyond YouTube, by now), but the guy has presence. His is a face that could sell America to the masses, surely. He's got the gravitas, he's got the phrasing.

But when the Office of President of the United States of America becomes nothing more than the front man, the schill, the Carnival Barker for whatever the money men want--well, it's called fascism, folks.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

HK, it's the corrosive effect of commercials and commercial entertainment. Every problem has a solution. It's usually quick, violent, and cathartic. Every story has a Hero to implement The Solution. Everything gets tied up in 30 minutes. Main characters never die. There are no storyline dead ends. Nothing worthwhile is ever negotiated. Everything is black and white. Don't think- just buy the packaging.

People have stopped looking at real life except in the most immediate sense. Politics is entertainment. War is entertainment. Death is entertainment.
