I'm not saying the concerts were a bad idea...but:

NEW YORKNEW YORK -- NBC's three-hour primetime "Live Earth" special, which included highlights from Saturday's global concerts, failed to generate much enthusiasm in the ratings.

The estimated 2.7 million viewers was slightly under the 3 million viewers NBC has averaged on Saturday nights in the summer with repeats and the Stanley Cup hockey playoffs on what is already the least-popular night of television.

It also performed below the Live 8 concert two years ago, according to preliminary estimates released Monday by Nielsen Media Research.

The three-hour concert special from Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., drew a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49 --- the same as a typical summer Saturday after Memorial Day.

And here's Hero again, with his limited worldview. He judges the 'success' by NBC ratings. : snicker :

An estimated TWO BILLION people around the world watched yesterday's Live Earth concerts to highlight the problem of climate change.

Details. They don't count. And they're not people. Who the hell cares about 2 billion non-Americans anyway?

Actually two billion is the maximum number of people the event was supposed to reach. Not the number of people that actually watched it. That number was evidently much smaller. Just because the global warming doomsdayers claim the event will reach two billion people, doesn’t mean two billion watched it. Details.

And how did they come up with that number? Did they measure it? No. That number is not a measure of the number of people who watched, as the media reports, but rather a number that came from before the event, as an estimate to the maximum number of people the event might reach (Some of the more reasonable articles qualify that number with “estimated,” but even that is probably to strong since, it was probably pulled it out of someone’s ass). And yes, it is true that many news sites are reporting that number as if it is measured value to the number of people who actually watched. Astounding!

I thought the title of this thread was very telling, btw. "Dead Earth" We'll probably see the beginning of the end in 20 - 30 years, if not sooner. I'd put a million on it. Wanna bet against me? I may still be alive when it happens, and it'll be the easiest money I'll ever make.

Just so you know, I'm not making any bets about Jerusalem, any rapture that may or may not occur, the year 2012 etc. This is about global climate change, and it's $1M US 2007 value.

Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for human stupidity to run its course.

End of the world predictions are all the same. It hasn’t happened in 5000 years – it won’t happen in the next 30.

The only thing that concerns me about this bet is that with your socialist leanings, you'll never be worth that much to make the pay off!

The reason it bombed as far as viewers are concerned is not because the world population doesnt believe in global warming, but because they don't believe it's man made in any significant way.

The phrase "Man made Global Warming" should be shortened to "Gore-bal Warming".

It's alot of hype about a natural event that we can do little or nothing to stop. Old Mama Nature is leading the way and there ain't nobody in the 'verse can stop her.

It's obvious that the wide majority of people living on this planet are smart enough not to believe the hype.
