Since the left-wing mainstream media has of course been silent on this issue, most of you have not heard about this.

Quote:

The Pennsauken man who shot and wounded a member of the U.S. Air Force before killing himself left suicide notes that indicated he was "angry at the government and wanted to make a statement" on Independence Day, one of the man's relatives said yesterday.

Matthew J. Marren, 22, of Walnut Avenue, drove to a home on Windsor Lane rented by Senior Airman Jonathan Schrieken, 22, at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Marren got of this vehicle, found Schrieken outside the house, shot him once in the chest with a small-caliber firearm, then turned the gun on himself, said Burlington County First Assistant Prosecutor Ray Milavsky.

Marren was pronounced dead at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro later Wednesday night.

Schrieken was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where was listed in critical but stable condition yesterday afternoon, Milavsky said.

Schrieken is stationed at McGuire Force Base. He works as a loadmaster for the 6th Airlift Squadron.

Quote:

If Airman Schrieken had been an abortionist or homosexual, this story would be front page news for the New York Times and the lead story on CBS News with Katie Couric for at least the next month. But since Schrieken is serving in the military, even his hometown newspaper, the Columbus Dispatch, has ignored this story.

Predictably, a law enforcement spokesman says that Marren's suicide notes "were indicative of an individual suffering from mental-health problems", but that raises the question of how anyone could identify anyone suffering from mental-health problems amidst those devoted to bizarre conspiracy theories and the virulent anti-Americanism of the antiwar movement. If anything, Marren would have fit right in unnoticed.

It is also worth noting that Marren was merely following the logic of the anti-war movement's standard public rhetoric. Their language is laced with suggestive undertones justifying attacks against our military, calling our armed forces fighting the War on Terror "baby-killers", constantly invoking the specter of Abu Ghraib, and citing their grossly inflated statistics of civilians accidentally killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Such reckless and unbalanced rhetoric (they're not quite as adept at keeping statistics on those murdered by terrorists) fuels the hatred that drives someone like Marren to violence against a member of our own military.

Quote:

The 22-year-old McGuire Air Force Base airman who was the target of an attempted murder-suicide in Willingboro last week remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition, a military official said today.

Senior Airman Jonathan Schrieken is recuperating at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was initially listed in critical condition after the July 4 shooting but has since been upgraded to serious condition, said Public Affairs Spc. Angel Lopez, a base spokeswoman. His family is with him in the hospital, Lopez said.

Lopez declined to say whether Schrieken is conscious, citing privacy restrictions. She also would not comment on his prognosis for recovery or when he is expected to leave the hospital, saying those decisions will be made on a "day-by-day basis" as doctors see "how he progresses."

McGuire representatives have visited Schrieken, a loadmaster in the 6th Airlift Squadron, "to show their support and provide him with their thoughts and prayers," Lopez said.

That's terrible. For a man to take out his frustrations with a political system on an individual human being who's just doing a job by killing that human being is despicable. Our soldiers face far too many dangers as it is without adding madmen crawling out of our own woodwork. That an isolated event like this has larger implications about the health of our nation, I will grant you. But that this cold-blooded murder is simply "following the logic of the anti-war movement's standard public rhetoric" is a crock. Hinkley shot Reagan 'cause he had a crush on Jodie Foster--does that mean all fans of movie stars are dangerous? Of course not.

Show me one accusation of "baby killer" outside the blogosphere--something published in the mainstream media would be great. "Baby killer" is an artifact of the Viet Nam war. The Nation has leaned a thing or two since then. Even a Michael Moore knows better. And the anti-war movement blames the DoD for Abu Ghraib, it is the Bush Admin that has placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of our troops.

Do you think equating everyone on the right with Klansmen and fascists is cool? Then why endorse this absurd hate-mongering over-simplification?

Thanks for the news, though. There's a lot of important information that the mainstream media ignore.

Senior Airman Schrieken is still recuperating, but thankfully he pulled through. He spent 11 days at Cooper University Hospital and was released on July 15.

Glad to hear that. I checked Michelle's page, and there wasn't an update. This story sucks, of course, but more so that it also hits close to home for me. Hopes for a full and speedy recovery for Airman Schrieken.

"If Airman Schrieken had been an abortionist or homosexual, this story would be front page news for the New York Times ..."

There is no indication he was an anti-war protester, belonged to any anti-war groups, cooperated with anyone to protest the war, was accepted anywhere, and so on. Instead, he seems to have been an individual and quite isolated nut-case, acting entirely on his own for his own reasons. Whom the paper in it's infinite wisdom has decided to use to smear the 2 out of 3 of USers who want the war to end. That does a real disservice to the truth.

My dad taught me that the first man to throw a punch is the man who has run out of ideas and lost his civility. Too bad this story hasn't made it out in the public....this tragic tale is a very ugly by-product of all the hate that is spewed, American against American, every minute on countless millions of web posts every day. Funny...some sci-fi has used a theme of a common enemy, an alien enemy as a uniter of people. This Age of Terrorism that we have ridiculously found ourselves in has not joined us against a universal deadly and brutal enemy, it has only brought our deep-seeded hatred and agendas out in the open.

Why is the antiwar movement Anti-American?

I agree. It is pretty scary. They've not even started suicide bombing us over here yet, which suprises me, given that if they really wanted to there's NO government agency that could stop it from happening beforehand. (I submit this very story as evidence of that....)

Yet here we all are, a country divided.

What happens when the proles lose all of the little frills that make our life simple and give us loads of time to over indulge in our vices? Don't say you don't have any vices.... We all have our own unique, or not so unique indulgences. Boy, are we going to miss those when they're gone.

I know that anyone young enough to be a part of the MTV generation has heard the question many times before, but perhaps it has never been so relevant as it is now....

Yeah, that's prettymuch how it'd go.

What concerns me the most is that our neglected infrastructure, hanging on by a mere thread as it is, would collapse so fast that more folk would bite it from starvation, exposure and the like than violence, and the casualties would stack up far faster than any means of dealing with them whatsoever.

And all the while the authorities will be going house to house with that handy little list, seizing the only defense of law abiding citizens and leaving them at the mercy of armed gangs while they cower in their cushy, air-condited HQ.

Katrina was just a sample - regardless of how much money the Gov steals from us under the fiction of emergency preparedness, the real truth is that instead of helping anyone, they'll be too busy disarming the peons and rounding them up into those camps KBR built while creating a police state under the guise of "restoring order" to be of much if any service to the folk who paid the bills.

Given enough time, without a supporting infrastructure and effective lines of supply, even those would collapse (probably leading to the abandonment and starvation of those they've already rounded up, muchlike such camps in germany in 1945) and things would fragment into localized gangs or warlords securing what they can to survive.

Just like Rwanda, or post-Soviet Afghanistan.
People like to think "It can't happen here", but as that massive blackout not long ago, and especially Katrina showed - it absolutely CAN happen here, to deny the possibility is wishful thinking.

I have emergency supplies as needful, and can repair and maintain generator and other small engines, not to mention being capable of converting many small 2 and 4 stroke engines to alcohol/gasohol, which most folk living in this area know how to make (considering that almost everyone south of here homebrews booze) not to mention living beside a non commercial agricultural region and having an immediate freshwater lake handy - so this podunk little town would weather such a thing a bit better than most, and was mostly unaffected by the blackout.

It's entirely possible to be well prepared without being crazy or ridiculous about it, the only serious concern I would likely have is finding a decent tobacco supply, thank heavens I already roll my own and know how to, lol.

Anyhows, yeah, it could happen here, to think otherwise is just plain stupid.

No arguement from me Rue. Sorry if I wrote it fancifully, but you pretty much got the point I was making. If we ever lose those things that keep our lives pleasant enough and we take for granted every day... the things that manage to keep our fear and loathing strictly in the blogosphere, how long until our blog-tendancies (in all blogs, not just the RWED) start seeping into the real, real world.

Who's to say if it's Rwanda or the next Revolution? Only thing for certain is when we lose those things, those creature comforts.... there will be a great change. And I don't think that "Politeness" will even be a part of the equation.

Ain't that just the problem though Frem? Nobody believes it could happen. Almost all the food we buy in the supermarket is supplied to us by a handful of companies now, and that number continually shrinks as companies merge. Look what happend when some idiot immigrant didn't wash their hands after taking a dump and poisoned some spinach last year. Why, they took all the damn spiniach off the shelves everywhere. Don't imagine that the thought that all the spinach everywhere needed to be disposed of would have even crept into anybodies mind after a couple of isolated cases of food poisoning 30 years ago.

China sends us poisoned food, and then when Americans start demanding that we want it printed on our labels where the food comes from, we get threats from China about it. Don't imagine we would have taken threats from China 30 years ago either, let alone imported food from them. I don't care how good their economy is, or how PC our media has become.... China desires power as much as anybody over here and they wouldn't love anything more than to crush America to pieces.

What happens when somebody shits on a spinach stalk and we get 10 different cases of madcow poisoning in the US? No more beef for a while... no more spinach for a while.... what's that? Oh, birdflu got our chickens? Hmmmm... running out of options for food.

Thankfully I have a healthy supply of food and water stocked up and my trusty gun here to make sure that no other hungry people who weren't storing up their acorns in the summer invade my castle and survive off my planning.

... months later and things haven't gotten any better. Crops poisoned, extremely limited meat supplies going most of which go straight to the rich and influential. The government aid has all but stopped. Many people are on their own with nothing but their faltering wits about them, and many have already died of starvation or the heat or the cold since we've lost electricity two weeks ago.

Knock, knock, knock.... We're here to confiscate your firearms and declare Martial Law. Resistance is futile. Those who resist will be forced to submit.

.....Now I have no weapon and a few broken ribs, and a broken leg. I suppose I should consider myself lucky I didn't get killed, and they're just too busy to worry about things like putting me in jail right now. Heh... look around you fool. It's a jail everywhere now... hahahaha. As long as I can't defend myself, what do they care if I'm alive or dead or behind bars or not? I'm kind of a lame horse considering all the medical care I can get right now is with my own two hands and a manual I fortunately purchased online last year off ebay.

Knock, Knock, Knock... great... what now?

BANG! BANG! BANG!

...Guess they didn't get all the guns yet. At least while these thugs are driking all of the water and eating all the food that I managed to save up, they shouldn't be out killing other people for their supplies like they just killed me.

---

I could have made that a bit more inventive and in-depth, and filled in what are obviously huge holes and plot points which would be necessary to get from point A to point Z.... but it's a real busy night here at work. You get the image though. I don't see any reason why this is universally accepted as an impossibility other than pure denial. Who would ever want to even imagine a scenario like this when American Idol is on, unless they're watching it as told by Robert Rodriguez in his next CGI-heavy special effects orgspasm?

I envy you for being so prepaired for the future without being completely crazy about it Frem. I do a lot of talk, but I know I'm not prepaired. If this all happened tomorrow, I don't reckon I'd survive long on my own, unless I was one of the thugs that killed me in the story. I'd hate to know what I'd be like when survival mode takes over and politeness is no longer an equation.

Meanwhile.... boy am I unAmerican for wanting this bullshit war to end so we can stop pissing our country's wealth and advantages down the tubes.

And boy am I an asshole because I don't want to just give our wealth and our advantages away to Mexicans who don't mean shit to me.

Wonder why everybody who affiliates themselves with one side or the other pretty much doesn't agree with anything I have to say about pretty much anything?

Nothin left to say in this respect, but a bit of useful advice for anyone with a yard at all.

Any irishman could tell you, any nitwit can grow potatoes, and they're easy to store and last quite a while.

Plant some daisy-type plants around the edge of your crop for effective pest control, and there ya go - you can cycle potatoes in the same soil for up to three years.
