WASHINGTON (Associated Press) -- Democrats decided Saturday to strip Florida of all its presidential convention delegates unless the state holds its primary later in the 2008 election calendar. The punishment would leave the fourth largest state without a vote for the nominee.

Yes it does. Florida is trying to circumvent established party rules in order to exaggerate their influence over the nomination process. After that they really shouldn't get a say.

Adam B notes that a DNC committee has voted to strip Florida of its delegates unless it moves its primary back within the next 30 days.

Any such decision will never stick. Never.

Does anyone really think that Democrats will disenfranchise the delegates of a large swing state, whether it's Florida or Michigan?

The DNC is powerless. All it has is bluster. And as soon as we have a nominee, the first thing that person will do is rescind any such decision.

"Party rules say states cannot hold their 2008 primary contests before Feb. 5, except for Iowa on Jan. 14, Nevada on Jan. 19, New Hampshire on Jan. 22 and South Carolina on Jan. 29."

Frankly, I'm glad someone is doing something to slow or stop the endless shift of primaries earlier and earlier. Good for them.

Florida Republicans had plenty of advance notice that this would run into problems; clearly they decided to 'play politics' and see if they could make a mess for Democrats.

Say "NO" to more early primaries!

It's almost a non-issue anyways. By the time of the convention the nominee is already known, it's just a ratification show. The main impact of early primaries is the momentum in succeeding primaries the winner gains, and Florida probly cares more about that than actual delegates. 'Course, considering how FUBAR'd Florida is, a national primary day seems like a better idea...
