I must be really naive - I never noticed

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2007/08/31/bathroom_sex/index_np.html

When Idaho Sen. Larry Craig says, "I'm not gay," I believe him. But that doesn't mean he wasn't cruising for sex last June when he was arrested in a bathroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on charges of disorderly conduct.

Surely any homosexual worth his capri pants saw the loopholes in Craig's televised declaration of non-gayness, amplified by the presence of his wife. Even some straight folks, wised up after the scandals of Ted Haggard and Mark Foley, must have noted that Craig did not add a qualifying phrase like, "Nor am I bisexual," "I've never had sex with a man" or even one of those oldies but goodies like, "Doing what I did doesn't make you gay," "I was so drunk!" or "I'm only queer for some guys."

You know, the things I read about Ken Lay's sleep-overs at the WH - wet towel spanking, calls for his aides to "get Laid" whenever he wanted to see Kenny - the number of off-hour and overnight visits by Guckert - and so on - the WH sounds like a frat house peopled by teen delinquents with a strong overtone of bath house.

And that seeps into all the GOP stuff that's 'coming out' (so to speak).

PN is getting a little more credit with me the more I read.

As I mentioned in another thread, careful diggin too deep into that, the deeper you go, the darker it gets and you really, truly, honestly wouldn't wanna know - and yes, at the rock bottom of it, the two issues *are* tied together, since you'll prolly suspect as much from my reactions anyways.

PN ain't even half as crazy as most people think he is, but boy he sure plays crazy for all it's worth sometimes, you bet.

Even so, I advise caution, cause when you stare into the maw of the monster, it gets to stare back, and no one's ever the same afterwords - content yourself with knowing that dark substrata is there, and that below it is "worse" and concentrate on making sure none of your own sink into it - that's advice only, as it's not in me to make folks decisions for em, but for me to be holding up a stop sign, trust that it's pretty seriously awful, right ?

A textbook example of why you should never talk to the police without a lawyer. Basically, Craig was arrested and lost his job because of completely benign activity. At best this is a misunderstanding by the police and any good lawyer could have ended this whole affair in Craig’s benefit, but he chose to waive his right to counsel and it cost him. And of course the fruitcakes will use this as an excuse to attack Republicans and Conservatives, even as they preach tolerance towards homosexuals – you can’t really get much more hypocritical then that. But at worst Craig is guilty of stupidity.

I think some don’t have any problem exploiting accusations of homosexuality in a bigoted fashion when it suits them. Many Liberals like to talk a lot about tolerance, but then they ridicule a Senator for supposedly being gay or make bigoted comments about someone's skin color, if it suits their agenda

I'm sure you haven't.

All I've heard is people criticizing a man for being gay. I’ve yet to see any reason that being gay is a criticism, or that he is gay. What I see is a man who should have known to retain a lawyer, but it suits certain people’s agenda to criticize him by making his supposed homosexual an issue.

Let’s take the Salon article, or what I could read of it. The Salon article evidently criticizes Craig with innuendo about what he didn’t say. First why is his being gay an issue? Why does he have to state that he’s not gay in a certain way? So what if Craig is bisexual, not that there is any evidence of that, but why is that an issue at all? Especially if you believe that a person’s sexual persuasion shouldn't be used to attack them?

I can’t help but think that if we were talking about a Democrat the issue wouldn’t be his sexual persuasion but why a Senator was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for nothing more nefarious then tapping his foot while taking a crap in an airport stall?

Although, the obvious answer to that is that he didn't retain a lawyer. If he had he probably wouldn't have been charged with anything.

Because he plugs 'socially conservative" anti-gay values in the Senate, which makes him a hypocrite :

http://mediamatters.org/items/200708280013

... an August 28 CNN.com article noted his votes on gay and lesbian issues and reported that "Craig's voting record has earned him top ratings from social conservative groups." ... such as the American Family Association, Concerned Women for America and the Family Research Council.

Craig voted for the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and, in 2006, voted to cut off debate on a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He also voted against a 1996 bill prohibiting employment discrimination based on sexual orientation, which failed by one vote in the Senate. (and opposed) ... legislation that would expand the federal hate crime law to cover violent acts based on a victim's sex, sexual orientation, sexual identity or disability.

-------------------------------------------

Why does he have to state that he’s not gay in a certain way?

Because his answer looks evasive.

-------------------------------------------

... arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for nothing more nefarious then tapping his foot while taking a crap in an airport stall ...

It was more than that. There was the two minutes of peering into the stall of the officer, the foot-touching and the hand-swiping - a roughly 5 minute come-on.

-------------------------------------------

... he didn't retain a lawyer ...

Ah, but he did. I don't remember the transcript well enough to find it on the internet, but in it Craig tells the police he'll get the papers back to them after his lawyer looks at them.

-------------------------------------------

You posted "All I've heard is people criticizing a man for being gay." In fact, you found one example where he wasn't actually being criticized for being gay.

Do you have any other examples ?

Like I said, when it suits you you’ll attack someone for their sexual orientation. You’ve proven my point.

I don’t see anything that says Craig is gay. I see a lot of desperate innuendo to paint him as gay in order to criticize his sexual orientation to suit some political agenda. But even if he were gay, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I don’t see any reason why someone must support hate crime legislation because they are gay or why they wouldn’t support the Defense of Marriage Act because they are gay.

The issue is being a hate-filled person and a hypocrite.

No one's had said they're anything wrong with being gay.

No, just something wrong with someone being gay if they don’t support what certain people consider to be appropriate “gay” politics.

It’s a way of thinking I don’t subscribe to. I’m pretty sure that gay people have as independent a thought process as anyone else, and therefore there are gay people out there who do in fact support conservative causes. In fact, I know Conservatives who are gay. They're not hypocrites. They just don't happen to agree with the Liberal point of view.

That was what it appeared on the police audiotape, no solid evidence whatsoever.
www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2007/0828071craig1.html

Craig sounded believable, but the cop sounded like a lying sleazebag trying to justify his paycheck by keeping up with his illegal quota. Long-term exposure to fart gas might have caused brain damage.

I've been in a lot of airport restrooms, and I've never seen any indication of fags in heat.

This tape is an excellent example of police sticking their badge where it don't belong.

If he caught the senator with his dick in his hand that's one thing, but wait... that's what all hetero guys do in a restroom.

No videocam evidence in the airport, just like on 9/11/2001...

Cop didn't even use an audiotape recorder in the stall, nor a handheld videocam. This allows the cop to "testilie", as cops call it.

Craig treated this like a misdemeanor traffic ticket, which all prosecutors and courts use for extortion purposes. Big mistake for Craig.

Now the Idaho governor will appoint another homo pedophile in Craig's place.

3 have been arrested for assault

217 traffic violations
Over 100 were stopped for drunk driving
3,000 unpaid parking tickets were issued

It's the 535 members of your United States Congress. The same group that perpetually cranks out hundreds upon hundreds of new laws designed to keep the rest of us in line. By claiming "Constitutional immunity" our political overseers avoid criminal prosecution for all traffic crimes. These are only statistics for Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland police files, and do not reflect traffic crimes committed in other jurisdictions. Tennessee Congressman Zack Wamp is a convicted drug dealer. Tennessee's serial-killing heart-transplanter Dr. CanniBill Frist's family butcher business Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) was criminally convicted of Medicare/Medicaid fraud and paid an $840-Million fine, and its executives sent to prison, so Frist was promoted to Speaker of the US Senate in his freshman year.
