...could've been the Scotch talking.. but what i meant was that the series that drew us into these discussions in the first place is probably just a happy memory. Believe me, no one would like to have a 10 season box set of this crew to watch and enjoy more than me, but that, IMO, will not happen. Will there some sort of reincarnation of this story..? I'll never give up hope for that... just saying that once the magic is let out of the bottle, it is very hard to recapture.

sorry for the inference, i really didn't mean it in a malicious way.

I think what deadlock was referring to was that there is only so much discussion that can be had on a show with such a small span. So if you’ve been here since 2002, its likely that you’ve already discussed most of the things people want to discuss about the show. I don’t think he meant that the idea of the show is dead in the sense that it will never return to screen or shouldn't continue to be enjoyed. But maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.

I say that, but deadlock has only been here since 2007. Damn, not even I ran out of Firefly related things to talk about that quickly.

yeah Finn, (see above) you summed it up pretty well..

Just to set the record straight... i began posting here just under a year ago.. but i was a low down, dirty, lurker here for quite a while before that - i enjoyed all the Firefly talk and the crazy stuff that went on back in the days of high anticipation of new movies, a revived series and all the great brain storming that went on to bring the show back... but i never really felt compelled to join in those discussions.... and then i stumbled into the RWED... and found a place to rant... And just like most folks here - there are times when the complete absurdity of the human condition has gotten the better of my judgement and i tend to GO OFF - not a pretty site to be sure, but i try my best to temper my anger with humor... funny to me - to a lot here - not so much...

so, here i am, warts and all... i really appreciate this community and the opportunity to let my little voice be heard.

oh yeah... and i really don't like to argue with people... i'm a pacifist for crying out loud

Ah, and now you’ve proved my point... I’ve referred to a type of discussion
Which was? What TYPE of discussion are you referring to? The ones where people talk about stuff that has "nothing to do" with Firefly? You know, like... oh I dunno... honor, honesty, courage, freedom... all the people and thoughts that belongs in your "scum trap"?

Or is it the discussions where you impugn your fellow Browncoats with such objective statments like You’re in denial or you (for example) would be up in the General or the scif board shooting your mouth off about all your crazy Marxist theories.

And now you weasel. Oh, I didn't mean it that way ... It wasn't an insult... I wouldn't dream of doing that myself

Ok Finn, why don't YOU go jump in a scum trap. That's's not an insult. Honest. I mean that in the nicest way possible.

It didn't seem malicious, and I did recognize it a bit out of context...no problem, thanks.

Everything's cool. Maybe I've let Firefly take control of a piece of my life too much since I got hooked 2+ years ago. Almost every day there is something...something, anything out there that for me is Firefly....whether it's Nathan, or Jewell news or any of them I lump it all together as Firefly. I met Nathan Fillion in Orlando in January..for me that was living Firefly.. I got his autographed pic hanging in my den...that's daily Firefly....I know...time for my shot.

Yet, somehow the only board you were drawn to was the RWED, where arguing and eye-gouging is the name of the game? You’re so in denial. But we’re glad you joined us anyway.

We were probably all like that once, and maybe for some it never goes away, but for me, I could only maintain that kind of Fireflyness for about two years after the cancellation, then I had to find other things to talk about. So now I talk mostly in the scifi boards reviewing movies that I’ve seen, which I think others might be interested, or I get sucked into the scum trap.

Not to mention there's a certain amusement in tossing a banana peel out, pointing it our for all to see - putting signs around it, and then watching as folk so totally wrapped up on grinding their little axe walk slambang into it anyway, completely oblivious, and get pratfalled into spewing all the hate, fear and intolerance they try so desperately to hide.

Me, I don't believe in Shaun Yu's assertion that to find out the measure of a person, you should "hold them over the volcano" - I believe that to find the real measure of a person, you simply remove all consequence from their actions, good, bad or indifferent, and then watch what they do.

It's been my experience that once all external restraints on a persons behavior are removed, it doesn't take long at all for their true "self" to become expressed in the actions and behaviors they indulge in, it isn't that power corrupts, so much as power can remove those constraints, revealing the true persona that was there all along but did not dare to express itself.

One thing that fascinates me about RWED is that we, all of us, reveal far more of our true selves then we think, but I don't think that's a bad thing, because it opens up new lines of communication where they did not previously exist, and gives folk who are willing to make the honest effort at understanding others a real chance to do so - it only breaks down in the face of blatant dishonesty, which over time doesn't hold up very well around here anyway.

It's when we choose not to understand each other, to close our minds and try to force our beliefs down onto others, or engage in outright and blatant dishonesty that the sparks tend to fly, because unlike so many boards - you have no "friendly" moderator to back you up and ban those who disagree with you, so you HAVE to be able to effectively argue your point if you want it argued, which is something I treasure about RWED, and some folk seem to despise.

I'll leave you to figure which is which.

Just curious...was Yu a real person like Sun Tsu or Lao Tse, or was it just made up for the show?

I don't think he was a real historical figure, although he might have been based on one, I don't know enough about the history and culture to say.

That particular TYPE of assertion has been around a long time, however.

I admit to having voted for Bush in '00 and '04 in the second post of this thread, and have since been lumped into a stupid pile by the Bush haters on this board.

I'd like to let all of them know that I feel them equally stupid for voting for Gore or Kerry, and most likely for Osamabama in '08.

Quit the partisan shit ya bunch of babies and let's get somebody into office that won't fuck us over and sell us out to the UN.

Nice Muslim president you're going to vote in soon that will make sure that the DCFS takes all of your kids away when you decide that it's more important to put food on the table for your kids then to pay for their health insurance.

Brave New World, here we come..... and you're all walking right into it like a bunch of mindless fucking lemmings.

I totally agree. That's why I never want to go to war - I might not like what I find inside myself, and I consider myself to be a very nice guy. The thought scares me, in fact. Face it, we're all disciplined animals, nothing else.

As opposed to what? Your "Manchurian Candidate", John McCain? If Obama's a Muslim - as you REPEATEDLY assert - then what does that make McCain? A bomb-throwing terrorist Mick?

You're sure Obama would turn our kids over to the state, huh? As opposed to McCain, who'll turn them over to... who? The gravedigger, once he jokes us into yet ANOTHER useless fucking war!

For cryin' out loud, people!

Am I the only Browncoat that is appalled by the discussions in RWED?! For literally years you guys have been arguing this stuff. And neither side has budged an inch. And yet you keep doing it. And it's typically not the polite stuff you all think it is; it's childish and name calling and not listening and disputing facts... It's a bunch of kids!

We're browncoats. We're supposed to be smarter.

Truthfully, RWED makes me want to leave most of the time.

Now I have a "side" that I agree with, but it's beyond that. Even the "correct" side (according to me) should know better than to keep engaging in this pointless bickering. We all know exactly which side each of the RWED debaters are on, and how entrenched they are. Why keep going on with this???

Sorry, but this is not debate. This is childish.

Sorry to you all. Just had enough of the closed-mindedness....

Actually that's not true.

Maybe on this one issue, perhaps, but in the devil of the details a lotta folk have learned things, agreed to disagree, seen the merit of a position even when they did not agree, or even leaned a little more toward or against something.

And a lot of these discussions, despite the nastiness and snark, are very revealing of WHY folks hold certain positions, the thought processes and real life experiences that cause them to feel that way - which is vitally important to understanding those people even if you cannot stand them, cause it's the first step towards living in the same space with em without bashing each others heads in.

Yes, some folk can be cursed close-minded, and if they chose that course, that is their option, but trying to then stuff it down someone elses throat will result in mockery, and frankly, SHOULD result in such.

It might be awful rough and tumble sometimes, but you CAN learn a lot here in RWED if you try.

I'm not voting McCain. I'm pulling for Hillary at this point, until the delegates go rogue and choose Gore for their nominee because there was no clear winner.

Gore for '08...

I'm down.

Personally?

I'm fuckin' terrified that Hillary will get the Democratic nomination... No, I'm not afraid of a woman president, I'm just scared that we'll end up in an entierly socialized, government controlled way of life...

That and I'm heading into the Pre-Med track, and the idea that I've gone through about 12 years of school and residency and whatnot only to get a government set stipend for all the time and effort I put in to learning my trade and being damn good at it scares the hell out of me

Fuck Jeb Bush.

Deep down, he's not even talking about Joe Biden* who's clearly so senile he shouldn't even be up on stage anymore because he risks his life walking right off it and falling to his death when every single teleprompter read is over, because Jeb Bush is no fucking different than Joe Biden* or GWB or Bill Clinton or GHWB, or Hillary Clinton or Osama Obama or Dick Cheney or any one of those other uniparty warmongering assholes that have been running this country into the ground for 3/4's of my life now.

Dude is just a literal Bushite, never-Trumper, neo-con, eternal war promoting, Raytheon moutpiece gutter trash who's pathetically trying to get people to vote for anybody but Trump, but without even half as much pull as never-was Liz Cheney has these days.

It's not going to work you impotent little fuck. If there's any single name that Americans are more tired of than Biden and Obama it's the fucking Bushes.

I hope your entire family burns in hell.

And I hope that Trump doesn't even debase himself by acknowledging that Jeb Bush is even still alive, let alone the fact that he even has an opinion about anything.
