I don't think we should.
We have little moral authority anymore to criticize what any country does. I do believe it was a mistake for the IOC to give Communist China the Games, but they did, and now the athletes deserve to compete for their dreams.

Suprisingly, I'm completely indifferent on the issue. Who cares, let them play.

I do think this is going to blow up in China's face though. Particularly if we get some of those Paparazzi photographers that stalk Britney Spears over there to dig up dirt on a nation that wears dirt like a badge of honor.

They're already stealing all of the good food and water from neighboring areas to give the illusion that the Olympics aren't being played in a polluted sewer.

They really should leave Tibet alone though.

I kinda think that comparing what we do to the ChiCom Military opening firing on protesting Monks is kinda silly (when the Dalai Lama is a threat...you kinda need to rethink your national manhood).

Here we are getting hot and bothered over the Bush administration aggressively questioning a couple known terrorists...from whom we got great intel or having a fit because we taser somebody (or laughing about it) or throwing tantrums cause a couple soldiers get out of hand with prisoners (soldiers who were prosecuted for that).

Then you have China showing us what a REAL human rights violation looks like and people want to give them a pass because they hate Bush or don't support the war or feel abused or want to hug trees or anything else. Its like Chavez in Venezuela...he stands up to Bush, so he must be a good guy and they can overlook his support for the drug trade (and his drug addiction), paranoid delusions (he sees US ships over the horizon), suppression of opposition political parties, and that whole President for life business he tried last year.

Should we boycott the Olympics? Yes. Can we afford to? No. Unfortunately we continue to rely on China to support the American dollar. We can't afford to take a moral stand at this time. Maybe if we stabilzed the economy by making tax cuts permanent we could then afford the economic disruption that would come from China choosing to be less supportive.

I do agree that the President might need to change his plans for opening day (stay home and watch baseball or make a surprise trip the Iraq)...I would not even send the Veep or Condi...maybe a lessor Secretary or let the Ambassador do it.

That said, I hope we do well. USA! USA!

You can't get a little pregnant. Human Rights violations, whether big or small, individual or systemic, are still very embarrassing for America. I may not believe that America falls into a "rights violator" designation, but unfortunately most of the world does. The actions of a very few have tainted the USA for a long time to come.

Human rights are human rights. You don't get to pick and chose who gets them. That's ridiculous. If we stand up to a country that's violating human rights, be better be ready to clean our own house. Otherwise it's just talk.

We can't boycott, even if it's the right thing to do (not saying it is). We are relying on China to support us. And we have our own human rights issues to fix.

boycott the olympics,a mute question; regardless of the answer it's going ahead and human rights has nothing to do with it.To much money has been invested and not just by goverments.Bring it on,one way or another i think it will be there downfall and then maybe there will be change for the better.Call me soft but I thought the olympics was about the human spirit to excel,it only takes one example to lead the way in this cynical world.

the names dun not soft ok?

America loves a winner!

Never have forgiven Carter for boycotting the '80 Olympics. That stunt did nothing good and directly lead to the Goodwill Games.

You're right about that Rap. The Olympics are supposed to be beyond politics, friends, and foes. An opportunity for folks to compete without worrying about who is competing. Just do it and excel.

But then there's that little irish devil side in me that says hey it would a nice time for a nuke hey. All in one place would make a nice chinamen stew. Send a kila megatron triple warhead right on top of em. Kaboom, earth shaken, sea floor rattlen, title wave makin, direct hit in a place they use to call red china. Their ashes would fall like snowflakes all the way to Japan. Oh my sweet baby jane it just another lapse in judgement. Forget I even mentioned it. Get carried away sometimes. Well let me go help the homeless, aids, latino children. Because ya know its all about the kids.

JAYNEZTOWN

the one to boycott was the FIFA World Cup by ISIS supporting Qatar 2022...I did not watch a single soccer match

Who would ban they islamics?
Germany and Japan in 1948 because of their roles in WWII, South Africa during the era of apartheid and Russia in 2020
Cuba, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and North Korea would boycott South Korea,
There are events of wars, invasions, apartheid and doping scandals have prompted countries to pull out of the Games.
Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland all refused to participate in Australia because of Russian and Hungary events, the People’s Republic of China said sports were against Communism and also withdrew—and boycotted their own self and would not return until the 1980s
Soccer? I think Argentina won but I also don't care if I'm correct or wrong on this, if I was asked in a quiz show I might just say 'FuckSoccer' sportsball opium for morons
