You sure did. The scary part is that I would have believed it in a heartbeat. I'm very worried about where my measely savings are being held now....CD's in Bank United. Their stock just recently hit all-time low of 99 cents.

It's all FDIC insured, but is that even safe? What are people telling you they're doing with their savings? I'd like a reasonable return, that's 100% safe.

I'd be ok with my bank folding, my overdraft is £2000.

Remember, your tax money is STILL paying for that.

Why is it that when the "elite" gamble and lose, the Gov gives them back their money after stealing it from us ?

It's a win-win game for them, and a lose-lose game for us that way, innit now ?

I am still in favor of the French Solution.

Basically they rounded up their own version of the neocon imperialists, their supporters and collaborators and started lopping heads off left and right.

And for 200 years after, NOBODY tried that shit in France again on any kinda scale worth a mention.

I say were about overdue for such a solution here.

Because when you gamble and lose, you lose your house and now one else is affected. When the elite gamble and lose, lots of people lose their jobs, the economy goes down the shitter, and the 'elites' have to stick with a two year old yacht this year.

Bailing them out is better than not bailing them out. What would be even better is not letting them fuck the whole thing up in the first place, or bail them out then hold them accountable, with criminal charges and individual liability. Good luck with that, cause they like make the laws and stuff.

I used to print shirts for a living (and made more doing that than I do now...), and one of our clients was the company that published the Weekly World News; we had runs of all the Bat Boy covers, so of course I had a nice collection of those t-shirts...

There are days when I miss printing - like when I have to lay out $25 for a tee with a print I like!

I'm not 100% sure about BatBoy, but I am sure about BatBoy: The Musical. That's real:

http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=7698

"I’m not sure what’s more surprising. That there is a Bat Boy play or that it’s been around since 2001 and this is the first I’ve heard of it.

Yes, it’s Bat Boy: The Musical, the cult hit based on tabloid stories in the Weekly World News about a child with needle teeth and Spock ears who supposedly was discovered in an Appalachian cave in 1992. In the stage version, the demonic-looking half-breed is taken in by a friendly family that tries to teach him to live in civilized society, only to discover that West Virginia isn’t quite as civilized as they hoped.

The story is filled with salacious shocks that might make even Jerry Springer blush, but it also has a serious, even mythic side. It uses the trashy tropes of the tabloids to make a universal statement about prejudice and acceptance.

“It’s My Fair Lady meets The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” said Damon Dering of Nearly Naked Theatre, who has been frothing at the mouth to direct Bat Boy for years. This week Dering gets his wish, closing his company’s season with an Arizona-premiere production.

Bat Boy, after winning the Outer Critics Circle Award for best Off Broadway musical in 2001, has become a popular choice at theaters around the country. There’s even a movie in the works, with John Landis in the director’s chair, so it’s a good bet the play will be a hit in Phoenix as well."

There's Gold in that there newsie fiction!

Repeat after me .....

Jesus did NOT return on Y2K to usher in the 1000 yrs war between good and evil.

President Clinton did NOT declare martial law and throw millions of American citizens into concentration camps.

The power grid did NOT completely melt down, sending the world into a post apocalyptic dark age.

The ICBM's in all the world's silos did NOT simultaneously launch when the internal clocks read ' 00 '

And sadly, our credit cards did not all wipe out our debt, thinking that we were now in 1900, instead of the yr 2000.

That's all I meant. No disrespect to the folks who actually did have to debug and reprogram some systems to keep them up and running. I kinda figured those who had the most to lose would do what it took to keep their jobs and lives from ending.

And so it was.

By using the words 'conspiracy whackos', I trust the meaning is clear. Yes, there were some issues w/ Y2K, as every one knows, but they were correctable. It took some doing, but there was nothing remotely near what some of the doom/ gloomers were predicting, the "conspiracy whacko " crowd, as it were. The list of things which did not happen should have made it all clear.

Dunno how you missed all that.

Yes, because the problem was FIXED. NOT because it wasn't a problem. So you bringing it up either shows you don't really understand the issue, or you need to repeat your mantra to yourself a few times, because you're really the only person here who isn't getting it.

No, I'm pretty sure you're the one not getting it here. I specifically stated there WERE problems, and they did need attending to. I keep saying just that, and yet some how, you miss that very clear point. WE AGREE THERE ! But what you're missing, and maybe there was less tabloid junk over there reported than over here ? I cannot say..... but there was a very real hysteria, of sorts, on many fronts concerning the chaos that would befall us all on Y 2K.

Religious folks , telling us how the bible foretold the end of days would commence w/ a Y2K worst case scenario, separatist, anarchist and militia folk, were telling us Clinton administration was building concentration camps,( folks claimed that they'd seen w/ their very own eyes ! ) ... it went on an on... the kook fringe nonsense.

None of that bad news came to pass. No camps, no 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, none of that.

Just more of the same.

I'm saying one thing and proving my case by claiming exactly what I'm saying.

What's your damage, ?

It is not those who use the term "Islamo-Fascism" who are sullying the name of Islam; it is the Islamo-Fascists. - Dennis Prager

AURaptor is stating that Clinton is innocent of something...?

*Chrisisall faints*

I somehow escaped the concentration camps. What about you ?

It was a decade ago that I was wasting my time on the internet, fighting less w/ commie loving/ terrorist appeasing liberals, and more w/ right wing religious zealots, many of which were predicting all sorts of calamities due to Y2K. There was the ' increase in earthquakes " crowd, THOSE were my favorites. Seems they saw this imagined increase as a sign of the " birth pangs " of which Jesus spoke would occur before his arrival. Only one problem. There was no increase in earthquakes. But it was funny, chatting w/ these pin heads, who thought there were more quakes and they were getting stronger and stronger as we got closer to the year 2000.

*sigh* How I miss the good old days of whacking fundies around.
