EPA
Quote:

In a move which surprises us only because of its brazen foolishness, the EPA has ordered its staff to "not respond to questions or make any statements" if contacted by congressional investigators, reporters or even by its own Office of Inspector General (OIG) (Read the order here). When confronted with exposure of this Orwellian order, the folks responsible falsely claimed that the order had been approved by the OIG, which the OIG hotly denies.

The Military, on rape of women soldiers
Quote:

Defense statistics show that military commanders took unspecified action, which can include anything from punishment to dismissal, in an additional 419 cases. But when it came time for the military to defend itself, the panel was told that the Pentagon's top official on sexual abuse, Dr. Kaye Whitley, was ordered not to show up despite a subpoena.

I suspect we'll see more of this as Congress wends its way through investigating the curent administration

Hey, Hero, you're the "expert" on law here - what's the usual consequence of ignoring a subpoena and refusing to show up? Do most of the people you subpoena have the right to simply blow it off and say it's only political, and they don't have to answer to anybody?

Just wond'rin'...

I don't understand these refusals either. I don't give a darn about executive priviledge in the case of Rove, and whatever they're using for this Pentagon thing. You get subpoenaed by Congress, you gotta go in. Now, you don't have to say anything substansive if you don't want, you can take the fifth, or you can just "forget". You cannot commit perjury or obstruction in the process. These people fighting Congress are just dumb, and they will pay a high price for it.

Bingo - you might have huge memory lapses, like Big Al Gonzalez, who said - and I quote - "I can't recall remembering..."

But you still have to SHOW UP. Thumbing your nose at Congress doesn't show them how much power you think you have - it ensures that they will severely limit the power of the next guy. Or at least that they SHOULD do so.

Yeah, and that includes Obama, too. I don't want a unitary Executive (known in other parts of the world as a dictator, generalissimo, or king), no matter WHO that Executive is. The Constitution provides for three EQUAL branches of government. Let's keep it that way, or at least let's act like we're TRYING...

It says in the Constitution that there are four branches of government - The Legislative, the Executive, the Judiciary, and the Decisive Branch, where the Decisioner-in-Chief (also known as The Decider) will, like, DECIDE things and stuff.

Bolten and Miers Resist Subpoena
Quote:

White House Chief of Staff Joshua B. Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet E. Miers yesterday asked a federal judge to delay an order to cooperate with Congress while they appeal the ruling.

The court filings indicate that Bolten and Miers will continue to resist subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee as the Bush administration heads into its final months.

Which one?

1) He who has the gold, makes the rules.

or

2) Do unto others, then split!

(Mine is an evil laugh)
