HERO

I watched her speech and thought there were only two ways it could go. She would either blow her one shot at history or else blow the roof off the building. I could not see how she could find any room to come in the middle...it was a win or lose moment for her.

She won.

All the pressure, sexism, lies, and personal attacks rolled off her and she delivered a speech, her first speech of that magnitude in what I can only describe as a Thatcher-esque fashion.

I am a target voter for McCain. Conservative, Christian, young, professional, and living in Ohio. I was...not real enthusiastic about this campaign. Sure, I'd vote (unless he'd picked Romney), but I would not work or donate like I did in 2000 and 2004. Last night after the speech I logged on to donate money for the first time. I have begun arranging to use my personal days to go man phone banks and do door drops and pound signs and all the other Ohio election footwork and, God willing, we will carry this state and the nation.

God forbid.

All I heard her talk about was a bunch of mush. Mumblemumblemumble oil pipilines through your back yard mumblemumblemumble my family, who I'm so proud of, is off-limits mumblemumblemumlbe...

In other words, more of the same. Instead of McCane's POW rap, she just gives us the same tired "but my child has Down's Syndrome!" line.

She remains singularly unimpressive.

Oh, but the Enquirer (remember the guys who broke Edwards' affair?) is reporting that her husband's business partner tapped that ass. There's those Republican family values again!

Sounds like an Obama speech with some intelligible words interspersed within.

Please provide cites where Palin mentions her Downs Syndrome child as making her qualified to be VP.

JONGSSTRAW

Somebody please give Andrea Mitchell a drink or a joint please. The poor women looked like she had been waterboarded last night. I give her credit though, and I also give high credit to MSNBC for extremely fair coverage, even more extensive coverage than Fox News. I was amazed that even their most die-hard Obama-loving liberal Democratic anchors actually showed glimmers of the former newspeople they used to be. Of course, it was only due to their jaw-dropping astonishment over what this woman said last night, and they will all soon recover from their brief hope-crashing dose of reality. They'll be back after her & John with full fury of lies immediately after their boss calls and says what the fuck are you doing? You can't say anything good about her!

Guiliani's speech was amazing. He ripped community organizer Obama to shreds...item after item after item. He made Obama look like a joke, and it was a long time overdue. And then Palin just took control. What a nice firendly smile, not all fake and plastered like Hillary's. What a fighter! She is going to single-handedly destroy the INTERNET RADICAL Obama...Obama who has ZERO experience on anything, and is wrong on everything. Palin will run over the in-the-tank media and the lame-ass liberal pundit liars like they don't even exist. I've beeen waiting a long time to hear words like she & Guiliani spoke last night. Lord knows Bush & Cheney could never utter 2 words in a row that sounded believeable and strong. McCain is a man of great character and accomplishments. Obama is a man of no accomplishments, and a history of hating America, and his campaign of glazed-eyed lemmings is just a sideshow now. Palin is a superstar! Hockey Moms, Soccer Moms, Families with special need children, Union members, etc...JOIN US! Help us defeat liberal elitism and America bashing once and for all! Vote for a great American, McCain.....not some pretty-boy Chicago radical tinhorn cupcake like Obama.

Her speech was soooooo high school. No wait - the kids from my high school wrote better speeches than that.

Kwicko - maybe we should give 'Hero' a break on this Palin thang. In a previous post he talked about trying to nail a newly-minted Iraq widow - at the funeral, no less. I bet Palin is the closest he's come to a woman (pun intended) in a long, looooong, time.

BTW - 'Hero' - who claims to be an x-tian - did post about trying to nail that Iraq widow. Also about how adaptable his girlfriend is in bed. And about how he lies to the jury to win cases. It's pretty obvious your christian 'Hero' is a sleeze-bag.

Hello,

In all fairness, Rue, Piratenews is constantly assailing religion, race, political beliefs, and sexual preference in his constant ramblings about various conspiracies.

He's probably the one person here who earns personal attacks, because there's very little he says that isn't personal to someone.

As for being able to defend himself, well, if he's going to stand on a bell tower and spray at random, he's got to expect that someone might shoot back.

So I went back to the beginning of the year - you know, so as to not go so far back in time people would say it wasn't relevant. And all I did was search for 'hero' in the most responded-to threads. Those with 50 or more posts.

Here is 'Hero's' second post: "Democrats whine, moan, and bitch when we seek to interrogate terrorists, listen in on their calls, track their money, or kill them before they strike."

Broad, sweeping, negative generalizations - that happen to be wrong. How about prejudiced ? Does that count in your book ? Does lying count ?

But then, here is his third post: "Try to be a little more grown up." HHHmmm ... sounds personal to me.

And his fifth: "Actually, I consider your emotional response to be an issue worthy of discussion. Some people call it the wussification of America. I always thought it was more related to laziness then lack of balls (which is why I consider it childish, rather then cowardess, in this I am in disagreement with some conservatives).

Personal AND broad, negative (and wrong) generalizations.

You really, really need to pick your sides better, you know ?

I've read this kind of thing so many times in the past couple days. Nothing but manufactured suspense. I had no doubt that this former news anchor and former beauty queen was gonna "hit it out of the park" for her handlers. Why, she has more TV news and beauty pageant experience than both of the Democratic candidates combined!

All she had to do was read her script and smirk in the appropriate places. The text of which was so full of lies and half-truths that even the mainstream media is having second-thoughts about this "rising star" the morning after. I'll give her this, she was better at it than W. ever was.

Quote:

Attacks, praise stretch truth at GOP convention

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press Writer
Wed Sep 3, 11:48 PM ET
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Heck, yeah, Anthony! I don't know what their problem was last night. I knew she was b.s.ing her way through this national screen test and I ain't even paid to know what's going on in this country! lol Olbermann tried, but dang, he fumbled and mumbled the whole night away, while all the other men in the press gushed over warmed-over GOP boiler plate.

The RNC was just a li'l bubble--granted, the same bubble that folk like Mr. Sandwich live in--but a bubble, nonetheless.

It's funny, the Dems at their convention were so hampered by the facts. All the media had to say last week was "Where's the red meat?" Well, now they get their red meat and I find it disgusting. And the way the other hired shills all paraded Senator McCain's 40 years gone victimization like they were reciting the Stations of the Cross, was dispicable. "...and McCain, sitting in his own excriment..." Interesting, how the Dems trot out stories about so many people in this country suffering because of the current Admin's indifference, and the Reps trot out stories about how their candidate has suffered. They're running on pure Cult of Personality and no one is saying so.

Most of them.
It's your posts I find myself scrolling over more and more as you usually do not bring anything new to the table, IMHO.

That's a wise thing to do.

Ummm... Just checking here, but what "new" is it that you've brought to the table, Jongs? Let's see... Hate Obama - check. Democrats evil - check. Liberals hate America - check. Seems like you haven't had a useful contribution since about... oh, EVER sounds about right.

And again, I notice the irony that you too seem to always respond to the very posts you're ignoring.

Au contraire senorita pathetic loser. Your only reason for existence seems to be to respond to MY posts....all of them; even posts specifically directed to others. Man you just gottsta throw yer fucking 2 cents in on EVERYTHING! And how do you then proceed?...you pop your desperately smug head out of your pee-goo just long enough to inject some oh-so-not clever little lies and Bush hatred. Them's the facts girl. I think they're selling PALIN DERANGEMENT PILLS NOW specially packaged for the hardcore Obama zombies that haven't yet been able to grasp what this woman is going to do to your boy and your entire disgusting America-hating political party....better get some quick!

You might have tried listening to what she actually said.

And its 'oil pipeline through' HER back yard.

Edited to add: oops, I meant a Gas pipeline.

...mumblemumblemumble my family, who I'm so proud of, is off-limits

Too bad you missed her speech. The family bit was great political theater. She talks about how normal they are and how they have their ups and downs...and everybody thinks she's gonna mention her daughter...and she talks about her wonderful little baby. Great moment.

And she NEVER said in her speech that her family was off limits...seems Obama said that in one of his speeches.

In other words, more of the same. Instead of McCane's POW rap, she just gives us the same tired "but my child has Down's Syndrome!" line.

Actually his POW rap was countered by her moose stew/hockey mom bit...but she's new and we need to hear that kind of stuff.

Obama's is the "son of a turnip farmer from Kenya"...

Don't need to, I'm so dead on critical of these liberals and crazy-talker types there's no need to make personal attacks.

And they can't fight me on facts or with reasonable debate...they can barely form coherent sentences so they resort to name calling, profanity, and general nastiness that makes me laugh a bit before I poke them again.

I note for the record that I do make personal attacks on PN...I try not too...well, not really...its just so damn easy. Kinda like his mom...damn...there I go again.

Hero, you're way too nice and civil to these people. They don't deserve it. They're delusional pinheads of the most demented, vile, and obtuse order I've ever seen anywhere. "Their facts"...bullfuckingshit. I gave up on "Their facts" ..I like my facts & Palin's facts & McCains facts. They're so far gone into Obama dreamland that they cannot even fathom what she will do to Obama and hair-plug college cheater-boy Biden. Rip them to shreds....just like she and Rudy did last night. The Obama-owned media never vetted Obama, and now they're stuck with him. As time goes by they will continue to drop their jaws in utter disillusionment as ALL of Obama's misdeeds and radical asscociations come out to the public via Palin, Guiliani, etc. constantly attacking him. That's what was working for Hillary at the end of the Primaries, but she started too late. Obama already had hoodwinked all the early voters before his various negatives came out, and he did manage to limp across the finish line...barely. This election is no longer about issues, maybe never was...'cause that's all bullshit spin anyhow...it's about LEADERSHIP....You can't spin that! I hope the Femi-nazis and the rest of the liberals choked on it good last night. The next two months are going to be wonderful, as piece by piece, layer by layer, Obama is stripped bare and totally exposed as the radical socialist tenderfoot that he is.

"... before I poke them again."

That's like saying "officer, I wasn't speeding, why I was only going 75." Doofus, you just admitted to personally attacking people. DUH !

So, were you for personal attacks before you were against them, before you were for them ?

Please provide cites where Palin mentions her Downs Syndrome child as making her qualified to be VP.
The problem was, there was nothing in her speech that qualifies her to be VP, as far as I can tell. She has five children, which qualifies her to be VP - unless you're talking about her pregnant daughter which is off-limits. She's a hockey mom. She was mayor of a dot on the map and governor of Milwaukee. (Er, I mean Alaska. Same population size so I get them mixed up.) She's against earmarks- except that she hustled for the money, voted against the bridge but kept the money anyway. (Did you know that Alaska get $500 per capita in earmarked funds, which is about 10X more than all other states?)

In my career, I've interviewed prolly over 300 people for hire or promotion. She sounded ilke a candidate with a very thin resume, who fluffed it up a lot with personal details, criticisms, witticisms, and a few outright lies (which should be enough to get you tosed out w/o a second thought.)

Republicans have very low standards, indeed.
