You should read what women have to say, they are not all anti-guns and there is nothing wrong with gun control. Gun control is controlling the purchase of guns. It is not banning guns.

Hello,

You have seemed informed about the subject of guns in the past, so I assume you are aware that the ultimate goal of many, many gun control organizations is in fact the practical banning of firearms.

I will further add that most 'gun control' legislation I've seen is unnecessary and even potentially harmful. Beyond making gun use and purchase by felons illegal, and requiring training for people who wish to carry guns on their person, I'm not sure we need much else in the way of 'gun control.' And, it so happens we already have laws to cover both of those scenarios.

Gun control advocates typically want much, much more 'control.'

AnthonyT,

I have my opinions on gun control and they are mine. What I saying to you is that it is unwise to stop reading just because you see the words "gun control". That will leave you with a narrow and uninformed view of what is going on around you. Had you continued to read you would see that very few, if any, of these men and women are even tounching on gun control.

Hello,

While I did in fact read past the word 'Gun Control', the site lost my support because of it. Even listing it in their initial manifesto marks them as enemies of my rights.

Let me explain how offensive it is to me when someone wants to exercise control over what I perceive to be my rights. (And I extend this same courtesy to the Republicans.)

It is as though I was reading an anti-Obama site that said they were against Obama because he will enact social policies they don't agree with, because he has little experience, because he wants to eliminate a person's right to carry firearms, and because Niggers only count as 1/6th of a person.

There can be a hundred thoughtful comments under that, but the site will have lost my support.

I'm sure you feel the same way when you come to a Republican site that wants to take away your right to choose, snoop on your emails, and generally violate your privacy in every way. They may have a lot of great ideas, but you aren't likely to support the site after reading that.

So yeah, the Women against Palin site 'lost me.' Not as in, 'I didn't read the site' but instead as in, 'I can't back their play.'

"The right to buy weapons is the right to be free."
A.E. Van Vogt - The Weapon Shops of Isher.

I myself am of the opinion that if one is unwilling to let a man bear arms, then you should have never let them out of prison in the first place.

I am against the idea of automatically severing that right from someone who has committed a crime, as I think it should be a specific decision of the court whether to do so or not.

To do otherwise puts the nineteen year old kid with a dime bag in the same category as the career criminal - I mean at which point can we say they have paid their debt to society, or must it go on forever ?

Considering the towering stack of crimes and laws no one can possibly live a single day of ordinary life without repeatedly violating, does this not amount to a wholesale stripping of basic constitutional right ?

And one should not have to fill out reams of forms and beg for permission to exercise a basic right - you don't have to apply for a license to speak your mind, but in theory that is much more dangerous than a firearm, you think about it some.

Not to mention those forms and the information within has been collected and used maliciously time and time again, case in point.

"According to reports in the Tulsa World the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation sent letters to members of the community who were registered as owning .40-caliber handguns suggesting they voluntarily bring in their gun or guns for a test.

The individuals who were "invited" to bring their guns in but didn't now will be included in the ongoing investigation, as well as people who were identified by former owners as having purchased that type of weapon recently, authorities said."

I was DAMN near indicted for a set of freakin murders which happened near my home of record some years ago, simply because the caliber of the bullets matched the weapon I foolishly purchased from a legit gun shop, they pulled up the Form 4473 and set the rollers on me the day I got back from New York, where I *WAS* during the time in question, and it was only the fact that the ballistics of my own pistol (which I NEVER got back and was in fact melted down) consistently did not match those of the rounds they dug out of the row house walls, that prevented such from happening.

Imagine that happening to YOU, especially now since it's been proven that particular test is inaccurate and unreliable ?

And while it's been well downplayed by the mainstream media, those assholes confiscating peoples weapons during Katrina had a list, too.

So therein lies my concern with the matter.

Hello Frem,

I can agree that in the case of felonies that don't involve violence or threat of violence, there's no good reason to restrict gun ownership permanently. It's a good point that punishment does need to have an expiration date.
