Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made considerably less money than rival Sen. Joe Biden, but the Palin family gave more to charity in the last two years than Biden has in the last eight combined, according to Palin’s tax records released Friday afternoon.

Palin, the running mate of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and her husband Todd reported meager earnings from 2006 and 2007, at least by presidential-politics standards.

In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080.

But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325.

By contrast, Biden (D-Del.), Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s running mate, has donated a total of $3,690 since 1998 ( 2006 earning $248,459 while donating $380, and in
2007 earning $319,853 and donating $995 ) .......despite his higher Senate salary, according to an analysis posted by National Review.

“The average American household gives about two percent of adjusted gross income,” says Arthur Brooks, the Syracuse University scholar, soon to take over as head of the American Enterprise Institute, who has done extensive research on American giving. “On average, [Biden] is not giving more than one tenth as much as the average American household, and that is evidence that he doesn’t share charitable values with the average American.”

Actaully, it's very solid substance, as it's a window into the very real values of each candidate. And it's not " the best " I have, not by a long shot, but just another block on the mountain of evidence against Obama/ Biden.

It's Obama and his ties to Tony Rezko, Bill Ayres which have me disgusted.

It's been established by a few studies that religious Republicans give a much larger percentage of their income to charity than secular Democrats. I don't think the gap would be so large if they compared religious Democrats with religious Republicans. In general non-religious folk need to start giving more to charity(including me), nice to hear AUraptor is setting a good example for us.

Thanks for the kind words. I'd only point out that Bidens gave far less than the average American ( 2% of adjusted gross income vs less than 1% ) , over the past 9 yrs. I'd not go so far as to suggest 'most Americans' are all that religious, but are , at the very least, good natured and well meaning toward their fellow man. If nothing else.

What Biden and Obama, and every Democrat since Socialism first was dreampt up mean by it "being patriotic" to pay higher taxes in response to re-distribution of wealth is just un-fair and destructive. What they call being patriotic, I call simply another type of a criminal money grab. How about we take all A students' hard-earned A grades and drop them all to a B grade, so the slackers with D's can now get C's. That seems fair, right kids? Throw all the guilty crooks in jail, but punishing the majority of honest succesful people, and those with small businesses is just un-American. It destroys incentives to succeed. Study hard, Work hard, make something of yourself just so those that were lazy or slovenly can benefit from your labors. What lunatic thought of that? Can someone please explain to me what's so unpatriotic about paying your taxes?

Is it unpatriotic to want safe roads and bridges?

Is it unpatriotic to enjoy the beauty of our national parks?

Is it unpatriotic to pay our men and women in uniform, and to ask that they be given the very best of equipment with which to defend us?

Is it unpatriotic to ask that they have adequate health care when they come home mentally and physically damaged?

Is it unpatriotic to want a decent education for your kids, or for ALL children?

Taking all that into account, I guess you're right - America sucks, and supporting such a system is the most un-American thing you could possibly do.

RL, this is so beyond ridiculous. We already HAVE wealth redistribution in this country, GOING THE OPPOSITE WAY! With inflation, the poor pay for the rich's credit cards. Inflation is the perfect criminal money grab! With inflation you can make the poor worth even less without anyone being able to trace it back to the rich.

And how many tax shelters are there for the folks living paycheck to paycheck? For the folks who can't afford health care? Where are the off-shore accounts for the unemployed? You call taxes "wealth redistribution" but it's just a tiny surcharge for the rich being able to continue to live on the backs of the poor and middle class. And this simple minded "you taking my A away and giving me a B" is plain wrong. Even with your silly analogy, it's more like taking your "A+, 110%" and turning it into an "A+, 105%." Is everyone who makes less than 250k a year "lazy and slovenly???" Have you even lived in America in the last 30 years? Nobody's getting fat off of welfare in this country. You act as if paying a few more taxes is gonna put the rich on skid row and turn the poor into pashas. I promise you, under an Obama Admin. you will still be able to get filthy rich if you're lucky enough to have access to the really big money.

Jeez, it may not be patriotic to pay taxes, but it sure ain't patriotic to bitch and moan about paying your fair share into the system that sustains your exploitative lifestyle. If the rich were smart, they'd be content to pay a couple extra bucks for a functioning economy. But they're too greedy to be smart, so we have to have a global depression once a century or so. Good times!

And all of this fails to take into account that most "charities" are just tax shelter dodges for the wealthy anyway which cycle most of the money into salaries pocketed by folks running the place, who usually happen to be in some way affliated personally, professionally or politically with the folks making the larger donations.

I once worked for Easter Seals, and ran smack into the seedy underbelly of these matters trying to help a family they'd burned pretty bad.

http://www.affiliatewebsitedesign.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=825

I do NOT donate to charity, if I wanna help someone out, *I* do it, instead of making a mere conscience payment that will be eaten in "administrative costs" and never make it to actually help anyone - unless they need a PR bump to keep the cashflow coming, of course.

Also, did you know that Palin's evangelical church actually requires her to donate 10% to charity? She donated far less than that, so does that mean she's going to go to hell? This blatant disregard for the wishes of her church clearly disqualify her for the office of vice president, in my opinion.

"In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080."

Sarah Palin makes $125,000 a year as Alaska governor. Plus, since she took the job in December 2006, she hasn't paid taxes on the more than $17,000 she received in controversial per diem payments for working out of the family's lakeside home in Wasilla — some 575 miles from the capital of Juneau.

For the 2007 tax year, Todd Palin's self-employment brought him $66,893 in gross receipts — $49,893 from fishing and $17,000 from snowmachine racing. But, the returns show, he claimed so many deductions that he reported only $15,513 net profit from the fishing operation and claimed a $9,639 loss from his racing, leaving him with an overall net income of only $5,874. In addition, Todd earned $43,519 last year working part-time on the North Slope for BP Exploration.

That's a LOT more money than they claim to be making.

Why did you abandon the other thread ? It was just getting interesting ! You were about to find us all the links proving that Ayers and Obama have close political ties. Weren't you ? You betcha' !

Adding and subtracting are easy. Now maybe you didn't get that far, so I can see why you like Palin so much - you're her natural constituent - you betcha! So take my word for it - the numbers don't add up.

***************************************************************

The documents indicated that Palin did not report as 2007 income the $17,000 that she received in per diem payments from the state of Alaska for days that she worked out of her home in Wasilla, rather than at the state Capitol in Juneau.
An Associated Press analysis also found that the Palins underpaid their 2007 estimated taxes with an April extension and could owe interest.
"What jumps out to me in this tax return," said Robert S. McIntyre, director of the Citizens for Tax Justice, a labor-backed group, "is that the $17,000 in per diems is not there, and it should have been."

C'mon, AURaptor, there are so many people in America just waiting for a reason NOT TO vote for Obama and TO vote for McCain. I'm giving you the golden opportunity to make the case for McCain here: What are McCain's values, and how can those purported values be reconciled with his actions?

Trolls against McCain, you betcha!

Palin is our Lord and Savior. The smartest woman in the room because she got herself elected Governor of Alaska. McCain is the new Bush and Palin the new Cheney. May God Bless America.

Down with all Liberals!

BTW what is a liberal? Anyone know?

And please don't answer "commie pinko wierdo"

Just asking!

Shiny! Let's be bad guys!

'Best I know is that the 17k is non taxable income, thus it wasn't filed as income. No big deal."

OH wait ! Didn't you JUST say you weren't a tax accountant ? Wasn't it right here: "I'm not a tax accountant." Did I get it right ? So, are you now giving me your expert opinion ???

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ...

You idiot. You betcha !

So, anyone w/ a contrary comment to what you wish were true is an " idiot "? In this case, I just report what's been said by others, and I never claimed it was MY expert opinion. Unless you can deal w/ the facts and give a honest, legitimate counter to what I said, why post anything at all ? I know , you'd rather ignore facts and spew childish insults.

And no, I'm not running from anything, but if you're so obsessed to scan every other thread to harass me into replying to each and every one of your remarks, you've got SERIOUS issues.

Get a life.
