John Murtha, like Jimmy Carter, is a doddering senile fella, full of old-man style nastiness and bitterness. He needs to be let out to graze in peace in the meadow. Hopefully he can find his soul again by being smothered in the bosom of Mother Nature. It's rather sad to see a man's faculties disintegrate right before your eyes.

" OBAMA IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT." Joe Biden

" The Presidency doesn't lend itself to on the job training." Hillary Clinton

" Obama played the race card against Hillary." Bill Clinton

" Obama and the media played the race card against me." Geraldine Ferraro

" Barack is saying he doesn't like me now because he's just being a politician." Rev Jeremiah Wright (smiling)

Well DLV, you just couldn't contain yourself with that one now could ya? Like many of the smarmy little shits on this board, when you can't address the subject you merely point to other cherry-picked examples to defend your hopeless position. Nice job though!

you opened that door... i simply walked in (with some evidence you disapprove of)... i mean really, listen to McCain - he makes less sense each day.... he doesn't need the stress of being president - i honestly think the pressure would be too much.

Say what you want,

murtha may have had bad facts that he believed were solid when he said those soldiers did those things,

so that is a knock against him, how could it not be....

but while your looking at records for veterans overall Murtha still received an A at veteransreportcard.org, while Mccain, "the man of the soldier" was graded a big fat D.

I cannot disagree with that. He probably should not be running for President. See, I'm not a total ideological asshole, just a partial one.

An un-scientific poll taken very recently amongst the troops in Iraq showed McCain with 75% support. And yes, Mr. Murtha has a long history of strong support for the military. That's why his outrageous statements and unfair accusations seem to indicate that he's not running on all cylinders anymore. Also, his statements last week about folks in Western Penn. being racists and rednecks are going to get him un-seated I believe. Like McCain, they've both seen better days.

yeah,

I fully expect that more people in the army will still be voting Mccain...

that's usually the way it works,

I even know a couple marines that talked about how they'd get information from their sergeants about what's bad about one guy...etc. They will be voting Mccain, by the way.

It's not like the military isn't a fertile ground for propaganda, and I'll even concede that some of those voters are well informed, but as you yourself pointed out, it was an uncientific poll, and some of the problems with it were that it was only from a certain reader base, and that base was disproportionately older, higher up military personel.

I noticed on the other thread you're asking again about Palin. You have serious problems with her. Yesterday I responded directly to you with an answer. Maybe you wanted more. Feel free to ask me anything you want about Palin here on this thread. I will give you honest answers to the best of my ability.

Then why are the troops sending (much, much) more money to Obama?

Unless you're referring to the magazine poll that was posted a few days ago, which has been debunked.

thanks Jong,

I'm glad we can have this conversation without too many hard feelings on either side.

My question is this. To date, Sarah Palin has demonstrated time and time again that she still can't define the role of Vice President, that she even expects to redefine it as a position with its own powers that extend beyond breaking a tie in the Senate and being kept in the loop so that the VP can take over the presidency at a moments notice.

Her notion that she is in charge of the Senate, as she expained it for a third grader with Peter Jennings, and her notion that the Constitution allows for flexibility on the VP role actually scares me.

She is flat out wrong on those thigs, she has had months to understand them. She hasn't managed to do that.

Mccain's platform, his angle of attack has been that he puts country first. That the country comes before his Presidency, and he has stated that the person he picked for VP would be ready on day one. Sarah Palin was clearly not ready on day one.

She doesn't seem ready two months later, either.

So my question is, do you analalize this information differently? Do you come to a different conclusion? Is she, in your eyes, ready to lead this nation?

I do analyze it differently than you and most others I suppose. I don't really care that she was not, or perhaps still is not a Constitutional genius. She may not know certain things about the Office, but then again she may be saying some things just to rile up Democrats. I do know that I believe she is a woman with great potential, based on her amazing personal life story of acheivement and accomplishment. Harry S. Truman was FDR's VP. He came from a small town, Independence, MO. He was rather un-sophisticated and in-experienced when he became VP, then later had the Presidency thrust upon him during WWII. That little man from that small town who didn't have the Washington DC elites liking him very much, turned out to be a great President and a strong leader. I see the same qualities in Sarah Palin. A strong commitment to family, security, and the people's interests first. Her track record of success and popularity indicates she's a hard-working executive who surrounds herself with people who can get the job done.

You're getting all hung up over nothing. Once she's sworn in she'll be surrounded by White House council and staff. I guarantee that the only time you'll see her in the Senate is when she is called in to cast a vote to break a tie. With Dems expected to hold and gain a big majority in the Senate I don't see her ever being there, except to sit behind McCain when he makes a State of the Union Address.

Well, I'm single issue focusing because htere actually is a priority responsibility of the Presidency. I may not agree with your other criteria, but I respect it,

however, the President's primary role is to uphold the constitution. That is what he swears an Oath to do. If it's important enough that when he's sworn in, that is part of the swearing in process,

then I think it's an issue that should take priority to you and all Americans, who are America first...not maverick first. The United states isn't as much a place remember, as it is an idea.

I think that idea is tantamount. I'm not sure I understand why you don't see it that way.

Oh grow a set, Jong.

I bust chops when I feel someone is shovelling a load, don't matter who they are, deal with it.

And for the record, I take issue with dumping on Carter.

The man was a mediocre president, that I'll not deny, but the thing about him that impresses me, is that even when his term was over, he never quit, never stopped doing his level best to make the world a better place and in time became a pretty damned good statesman, able to negotiate and reason even with some of the hardest folk to deal with and saved us a whole hell of a lot of trouble that otherwise might have needed a military resolution.

While he's too nice a guy to send to the UN as our rep (cause that one has to be a bit of a crook, and must represent OUR interests in a politically toxic environment) he'd be a damned useful asset in any position as an international negotiator, who's presence carries a respect that our current batch of smack talking assclowns does not.

There's more ways than one to play the game, and a guy with a nice suit and briefcase is a hell of a lot cheaper to deploy than an army.

Even that crooked bastard Nixon was pretty good in his time, going toe to toe at the table with the russians and the chinese, and Reagan weren't so bad neither, him and Gorby settled a lot of stuff without nobody needin to get shot over it.

This cowboy diplomacy shit of the current administration is idiotic and counterproductive, and we're gonna be eatin blowback offa that for another twenty years, unfortunately.

So some respect for Carter, if you please - you don't need to agree with the man to see the logic of getting your interest served without having to resort to military force cause your diplomats are a bunch of offensive incompetent nincompoops like Bolton.

Oh, boo-freaking-hoo, you little crybaby. For someone who doesn't "relish hurling insults back", you sure seem to relish hurling them FIRST; you just wanna take your ball and go home when someone responds in kind, using the same insulting language that you feel so free to use towards others.
