Keep the Shiny side up

Seems like the first three paragraphs and the last three paragraphs exemplify the old adage, "Do as I say, not as I do".

Quote:

Mr Obama, returning to the campaign trail after two days off in which he flew to his ailing grandmother in Hawaii, said a negative campaign was not what the country needed.

"In the final days of campaigns, the say-anything, do-anything politics too often takes over..." he said in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"The American people don't want to hear politicians attack each other - you want to hear about how we're going to attack the challenges facing middle-class families each and every day."

Later, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he sought to tie Mr McCain to the policies of the outgoing Republican President, George W Bush.

"John McCain's mad at George Bush, so opposed to George Bush's policies, that he voted with him 90% of the time for the past eight years," he told a mass rally.

"That's right, he decided to really stick it to George Bush 10% of the time... It's like Robin getting mad at Batman."

False equivalence. I haven't heard anything that comes close to "palling around with terrorists" or "socialist" or some of the others.

There is a difference between fulminating lies like - "He's a Muslim" or "He consorts with terrorists" and "He voted with Bush 90% of the time".

The former 2 are perjorative and false.

The latter is objective and based on fact.

Especially when McCain himself said it in a photo op, and was proud of that fact, saying that he'd voted with Bush more than even some of his Republican comrades.

Also, to give equal time, Palin said she'd like to see campaigns without the notorious "robo-call" ads - and then released her own robo-call the very same day!

So while we all might LIKE to see a campaign without attacks, that's not the way modern politics is being played, unless you want to lose.

Except that it's not true. The Congress found McCain had broken no US laws, nor has he broken any Senate rules. He did nothing wrong.

Palin acted with in the law. The claim that she violated any ethics rules."In order to violate the ethics law, there has to be some personal gain.. " . No such gain was shown to have occurred w/ the Trooper-gate investigation, so any such claims are purely political b.s.

Doesn't matter. The "Batman and Robin" form of Sen. Obama's remark goes against his statement that..."The American people don't want to hear politicians attack each other..." He could have left that out and just stated facts, but had to get the little extra dig in.

Besides, he's wrong. In the movie 'Batman and Robin' Robin did argue with Batman.

Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much. High treason? Never mentioned or even hinted at. I was just interested in the juxtaposition of a plea to stop attacks on candidates with an attack on a candidate. I expect that the BBC was interested in the same thing, based on the way they structured their article.

Using the "Batman and Robin" remark (which you continue to ignore) to describe Sen. McCain's voting record doesn't seem that much different to me that Gov. Palin's "palling around with terrorists" remark does to describing Sen. Obama's association with Bill Ayers.

Another thing, Geezer, why is it that you take some statements that aren't really an example of Obama hypocrisy and expect Obama supporters here to fall over themselves admitting that Obama's not perfect, but out of the dozens and dozens of examples of hypocrisy from the McCain, Palin and RNC side that I and others have listed here over the last couple of weeks, I can't recall anybody from the right, including you, once saying "Yeah, they're hypocrites".

Different standards for Obama supporters, eh? Give me an example where Obama really was being a hypocrite and I'll admit he was being a hypocrite, which is more than what you've been able to do when it comes to the McCain campaign so far.

Rupert Murdoch donated money to Hillary. Hard righties work in mysterious ways?? And I am the most unlikely person to ever defend them.

Besides...what is important is the political inclination of whomever is making the "pants on fire" or whatever judgements.

Now thank you for pointing out the TSPT is guilty of Liberal behavior. I hadn't known they'd done that. I got my opinion from reading thier editorials from time to time. I spent some time reading more, and after several conservative editorials I found one editorial piece critical of the US for not supporting Georgia with force during the Russian occupation. Like we kind of promised. Or so the TSPT says. So "Arch Conservative" would be incorrect. They may even approach "nuanced" conservative.

Which kind of severs the link between the "Then to you, PolitiFact is apparently a tool of the McCain campaign" statement and my multi tiered Spanish Inquisition Salem Witch Hunt Big Brother scandalous characterization of Conservative Media? Which leaves my rant off topic. (MalBad tips his hat, says "this one's on me Kirkules", throws down 2 silver dollars and leaves the bar)

Which sounds an awful lot like you're defending the Patriot Act. Is a bad law magically good if you can point out a worse one in our history? Aren't they BOTH bad?

I suspect many of the more out-there liberals in RWED wouldn't object to making criticism of Pres. Obama or his policies a crime, based on how they react to anything less than worshipful adoration here.

Well, in your own words,

Since I don't support either one, Sen. Obama's "Batman and Robin" comment seems as much an attack to me as Gov. Palin's "palling around" comment. There's a kernel of fact in there somewhere, but distorted quite a bit.

BTW, did you know that Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain made the same choice on 75% of the bills relating to abortion since Sen. Obama was elected? This is absolutely true, and you can check it on Votesmart.org.

There's parts of the Patriot Act I don't care for, but, based on its actual impact, as compared to other and greater abuses initiated by folks who are widely considered our greatest presidents, I find it hard to see it as the MOST EVIL THING EVER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!!!!, like many folk here do.

It will be interesting to see if Pres. Obama trys to get rid of it. I'm betting no. If he doesn't, is he evil?

Yes. If he doesn't, he is evil.

He voted in favor of telco immunity though, so I already know which way that vote is going to go.
