He says , if you make less than $250,000, you won't see any tax incrases, That's a lie. In 2010, Bush's tax cuts expire, and taxes will automatically reset to Clinton era , higher taxes.

You'll pay HIGHER taxes, and that's a fact.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

From what I've gathered, the plan is to allow the tax cuts on millionaires to expire, while extending tax cuts on everyone else, further cutting taxes on lower-income households, eliminating taxes on social security payouts to seniors, etc.

Here's the basic breakdown on it that I've seen:

So I'm not sure where the idea that everyone's taxes will go up is coming from. I'm sure that several people of wealth would like us all to believe that, since they'll be getting the biggest cut under McCain and their taxes will go up under Obama, but we should know by now not to trust those guys.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

He says that he will repeal the tax cuts FOR THE WEALTHY.

You might try reading something other than Drudge or Foxnews.com. You might actually learn something that is TRUE.

RIGHTEOUS9

Wulf,

read my post in the other thread as to whether or not I think that would be fair.

It's funny that every time the middle class try to push back, that's when people start crying foul about class warfare. Who do you think runs this fucking country? Sure, us in theory, but in truth it is the rich. Who gets the politicians elected(who are often rich themselves), who gets the judges put on the bench?

Who makes the decision that companies can stop paying their contracted pensions to employees while not making a single adjustment to CEO golden parachutes? Those same judges.

Who allows for credit card policies that shadily shuffle around payment dates so that rates(and this should be illegal) can be hiked through the roof to the point where people can't even make headway on their loans even after paying them back five times over?

Who decides that workers don't get to strike?

Who decides that companies can send all our jobs overseas with the tax breaks we give them?

who decides that wealthy people can have offshore accounts to avoid taxes?

who decides that companies can merge into bigger and bigger conglomerates at their liesure, further reducing competition?

Who decides taht companies can pollute the air in our cities, literally some of which can be linked to brain damage in certain areas?

....................................

That's all in an effort to protect their money.

Trust me, they don't need you looking out for them

Obama is not lying about tax cuts...he's using Democratic logic.

Lets say the Democrats want to increase education spending next year by 10%. If the Republicans want to increase education next year by 5%, then the Democrats argue, often with great success, that the Republicans want to "cut" education.

In the Democratic mindset an increase can be a cut.

The same is going on with this tax plan. Democrats want to raise taxes on everyone, but some folks will have a smaller increase then others...those folks are getting a "cut".

Some of it they will do all at once. Here's your cut...pay no attention to your higher taxes.

Some will come from letting the tax cuts expire.

Some will come after the 'tax' cuts in other legislation.

If you honostly think a Democrat will lower your taxes...

Raising taxes is kinda what being a Democrat is all about...its patriotic (unlike service to your country, which is selfish).

Does anyone here know what percentage of total income the current amount of taxes constitute? Because I don't know.

But I think people would more readily respond if your idea of an equal tax was not automatically linked to a radical decrease in overall taxation, because that's two different discussions rolled together.

Bush's tax cuts weren't JUST for millionaires, so the premise you're attempting to present if a false one.

McCain's plan, as its presented, is FAR more fair, as it gives responsible cuts to those who pay the most, the top 1% and everyone from top to bottom gets SOME cuts. Those barely paying any taxes , at the bottom, even get a cut.

Actually, 20-23% is more reasonable, to run the country, and you could omit the any income tax for the lower income earners what so ever. In fact, the most fair tax would be just that...... THE FAIR TAX!

Mal, Mal, Mal..... I pity you, I really do. The Bush tax cuts will indeed end in 2010. That's how the legislation reads. Efforts were made to make those cuts permanent have failed, so , unless a socialist President and a hard Left wing Congress and Senate go 180 degrees from what they've said they'll do all along, which is to RAISE taxes, then that's exactly what will happen. Bush's tax cuts will indeed expire and we'll all be taxed at level set before the taxs cuts came into affect.

What about that confuses you so much ?

There's nothing wrong with a flat tax but 1% wouldn't be enough to cover current Government spending. I personally like the "fair tax" which is one of the sales tax based tax systems that has been proposed. The great thing about the "Fair Tax" is that other than Social Security and Medicare you would get to keep 100% of your take home pay. You would be able to determine you own tax liability based on how much you spend.

The reason we will never see a "Flat Tax" or "Fair Tax" is that they take power away from the politicians. Both systems take away all of the thousands of tax loopholes and exemptions that politicians use to gain favor with big campaign donors and lobbyists for big interest groups.

One of the problems I see with the Obama tax cuts is that much of the money goes to those that don't pay federal income taxes in the first place. To be fair it was the Republicans that first introduced the idea of tax cuts for those paying no taxes when they started the "Earned Income Tax Credit". Now we're in the position of having welfare payments referred to as tax cuts. I believe that taxes on the poor should be raised not cut. Even the poor should have a stake in our federal Government and the responsibility that comes with being a tax payer. Obama and the Democrats want to increase the number of people dependent on the Federal Government to the point were they are forced to vote Democrat to maintain and increase their welfare payments. Once they have 51% of the population on welfare you can kiss this country goodbye because all incentive for entrepreneurship will be destroyed. We'll all just be sitting around drinking Vodka and waiting for our next Government check, Soviet style.

I should have known better.

Yes, the tax cuts were not just for millionaires. So, extending the tax cuts on everyone else (we all know what extending means, right?) and further cutting taxes for those of us down at the very bottom of the wage scale, while allowing the tax cuts on millionaires to expire... is the plan. As far as I have read. I do not see how this is a false premise.

I find it odd that even the Republicans here have taken it as a given that the Democrats are going to gain seats in the House and Senate, that Pelosi will still be the Speaker of the House, or that Reid will maintain his leadership position.

Personally (and many a jaw may drop when I say this), I'm strongly considering voting for Republican Senators and Representatives, and I'd support others doing the same. In many cases, we get the BEST law out of Washington when we have gridlock between the Legislative and Executive branches, instead of having a Rubber-Stamp Congress like Bush had prior to 2006 and Clinton had before 1994. Those "anything-goes" legislatures do the people (that's you and me) no good at all, and often get us into deeper shit than we can easily extricate ourselves from.

If you think it's a foregone conclusion that Obama's going to win the White House, consider putting some checks on his ass right quick, as Frem would agree. Think about voting for the "other guys" to control Congress! It's your patriotic duty!

It does seem like divided Government is the best possible situation. I'm not really sure how the economy has performed historically with divided Government, but I do know that the stock market loves it. If the Dems get a filibuster proof majority in the Senate the stock market will crash even worst than it is currently. If the Republicans gain a few seats but Obama wins, the market will be able to live with that and the Dow will be up 3000 points in a month. It doesn't really matter to me if the market goes up or down, I'll make money either way, but for those in for the long term divided Government would be a good thing.

Once upon a time Obama's website proclaimed his love for public campaign financing.

Democrats raise taxes. While Obama is out there preaching tax relief you can bet he's thinking "spread the wealth" just like he was in 2001 and with Joe and if he's not you can't tell me Pelosi, Reed, Kerry (with his New Deal 2), Frank, Rangle, and the rest are not salivating at their big chance to put it all right.

Democrats always raise taxes if the Republicans can't stop them. In local politics, they raise taxes, at the state level, they raise taxes. You can't tell me that a Democratic President with the MOST liberal voting record and a record of following blindly where his party leads is NOT going to raise taxes. Its going to happen, it always does. Its kinda like spending...I suspect that like EVERY other time and in every other place the Democrats get power...there is going to be new spending.

"Tax and spend" has been the Democratic motto for about a hundred years. When people say Democrat...they know what it means. Taxes. Spending. Along with abortion, pot, gay rights, weak defense, and sex with interns (but mostly taxes and spending).

Sorry, I misread as 'Bush's tax cuts were just for millionaires' because I erroneously assumed you were trying to use logic, i.e. if the tax cuts were only for millionaires, letting those expire and extending the cuts of everyone else would be a false premise to present.

Sad that some still need to be taught and re-taught what they should have learned the first time. The problem is , you're so full of misinformation, it's hard to tell what you really know and what you've been taught to recite on command.

Here's the facts, fromhttp:// www.factcheck.org/dean_wrong_on_bush_tax_cut.html

Dec 5, 2003 -
Actually, according to a nonpartisan analysis by the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, nearly 75% of all families are getting a tax cut this year from the two tax bills signed into law by President Bush in 2001 and 2002. The amounts vary widely, but the average is $1,217 – a dozen times more than Dean suggested.

Even families making only $20,000 to $30,000 a year are getting an average cut this year of $638. And 98.4% of that group -- "middle-class" by almost anybody's standards -- are getting some tax reduction, exactly contrary to what Dean said. And the amount of money is significant -- it increases their after-tax income an average of 2.7 percent above what it would have been before the Bush tax cuts.

And for those farther up in the middle-class hierarchy -- making $75,000 to $100,000 a year -- the Bush tax cuts are worth an average of $2,543 this year -- 25 times more than the $100 figure Dean suggested. More than 20 million American families earn $75,000 a year or more, and will be getting tax cuts in the thousands of dollars this year, not the the hundreds.
Generally, the only ones who get NO cut are those making less than $10,000 a year -- and few would think of them as middle-class. They’re the ones who earn too little to pay federal income tax in the first place, mostly singles and elderly retirees. Only 7 percent of them get a tax cut.

So once agin you're not debating the actual plan, you're debating something you made up.

Indeed, the most electric moment I had while filling out my ballot was when I finally, finally, got to vote against her. She has been here for far, far too fuckin long. And she is evil. Out of her mind with evil.

Amen to that, PR!
