In last night's post-debate analysis on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, James Carville proclaimed that Barack Obama will be the slam dunk winner of the election in November. The well-respected and highly influential Hill newspaper has a disturbing report on police forces across the United States gearing up for possible civil unrest and even riots in major cities such as Detroit, Oakland, Chicago and Philadelphia if Barack Obama actually loses on November 4.

It would be a dark day for America if a presidential election was marred by violence on the streets, and local government officials are right to be prepared for the worst even if they are accused of over-reaction. The nation may be deeply divided over this contest, but nearly all Americans of whatever political stripe will unite around the principle that the rule of law must prevail over the rule of the mob.
